We are looking for artists of all shapes, sizes and styles to contribute to Together We’re Giants and sell their original work online. We will be adding a shop where Giants fans can purchase original works of art directly from the artists. We will be publishing works contributed by artists ranging from drawings and illustrations to paintings and sculptures. All works must contain Giants-related imagery (think Timmy pitching or Buster homering). All works are subject to editorial review and editing.
This will be a great opportunity to showcase work and achieve exposure from our readers and social media followers. Together We’re Giants attracts over 20,000 readers per month. If interested please email us directly using the form on the contact page. All works published will include credits to the artist as well as bio information.
How much for the original of that fine piece that appeared in The New Yorker?
Breckeroni wants to know?
Yup. Breckeroni dabbles in fine art. You should see his Leroy Neiman and David Hockney collection.
Why am I not surprised?
LMAO
Greek – I forwarded my good buddy’s website he is a SF artist based in the Sunset District and lifelong Giants-Dubs-Niners fan.
I’ve posted one or two of the images in the past.
He has 5 prints for sale (1 each for the 3 Giants WS winners and 2 Dubs prints (one for 2015 and one for 2016)

that’s prettty cool
Thanks, they look very good up front, the colors are deeper.
All prints follow same style, which each season’s key players showcased.
Do you have one of Brandon Belt in your bedroom? 🙂
no i think I used it to make a fire for a cookout
Don’t you need some copy right royalty arrangement with the Giants regarding their logo and likeliness of players in order to sell stuff like this?
lol I’m sure you do but each type of product has a limit quantity. I know for tee shirts it is under a certain number like 500, so if you print 499 then it’s a slap on the wrist.
This guy started off as a graffiti artist, therefore you think he cares? Not like he is doing 1000s of units.
Just questioning. I would hate to see a cease and desist letter be sent to the owner of the website.
Several years ago my nephew(16) wrote an APP for an IPhone that scanned Craigslist for information on yard sales and crossed some of the products. He then passed the data to the mapping software and the geolocational data to give agraphic on the phone of where the garage sales were near the person using the app. The app was a freeware app.
Craigslist apparently was working on something similar but had not released it yet and sent a cease desist letter for using their data.

Blistering criticism of Big 10 officiating. Many, maybe most, NFL officials are recruited from the Big 10.

I need some advice. I recently was offered a new job with a large raise (yeah!). I am very happy about this, I was sick and tired of my current employer. We negotiated my new happier salary and I accepted their offer on November 17th pending a drug test and background with a start date of 12/12 (2 weeks from today). My intent was to let the new place vet me and give me the go and give my notice today giving my employer the standard 2 weeks. My new boss wanted me in on the 5th. Heck they would take me today. (its good to feel loved)
Unfortunately, my new employer has NOT confirmed the vetting, and I refuse to give my notice without confirmation (chicken/egg/count thing). I am torn in asking for more time from the new place (not wanting to start on a bad foot) or giving less than 2 weeks notice (frowned upon practice).
What would you do?
Give less than 2 wks
Yuck them if they can’t take a foke?
no one owes anything to anyone including them to you. even if it means saying today is my last day.
as long as the offer is in writing and you have nothing to worry about regarding your background, then you can give 2 wks notice even if it overlaps the new start date. Just leave when you need to..
Congrats. Don’t eff it up. That’s my advice. Oh yeah, put the hash pipe down before any testing. Got it, Big Papi?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9BGLtqqkVI
Gee thanks, I haven’t smoked in 3 years. Not even ciggies…
Strangest feeling peeing in a cup!
Tru dat!
My experience has been the new employer should understand that you need to push the start date out as a courtesy to your current employer. Most new employers expect you not to give notice (and a start date) until the vetting process is completed, because they should understand that you would be exposing yourself *if* something weird comes out of the vetting process.
I would call the HR person (I’m assuming that’s your front end contact) and tell them you want to start things off right…then explain the situation. Any good employer (and HR person) would totally understand.
What this guy says.
BTW…never burn bridges!
Unless your enemy is rolling after you with armored convoy!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRHVMi3LxZE
That’s the one! GREAT movie!
Never burn a bridge in a world where people change jobs every 5 years on the average.
That’s burning a bridge?
That is up to who owns the bridge.
So true!
Tell your current employer that you can’t wait to see them in your rear view mirror and you hope the company collapses when you leave. Then, call your future employer and scream at them for not having the common courtesy to give you a final decision in time for you to give proper notice. Tell them you need their answer immediately, or you’re not coming and they can go eff themselves. I think this should work perfectly.
DONE!
I would proceed cautiously for self-protection. Being offered a position pending physicals, results of drug tests, and a background check means the new job is still a maybe not a definite. Once the job offer is secure, then I would follow KIR’s advice below. It’s always best to leave on good terms with your employer. Who knows when you may need them for a reference in the future?
Not only “the employer”, but also co-workers at that employer. I had an issue with a manager on the East Coast, so I left the company. Someone local…on the expanded team…badmouthed me to a hiring manager (at another company) on hearsay years later…and I didn’t get a job I wanted. My point here is if you leave on bad/questionable terms, it could bite you in the ass down the line. Hiring managers will always seek input from folks that worked at companies in your past. LinkedIn makes it that much easier.
I suppose this is good news – seemed like the sticking point before.

I got these two after the 2012 triumph. The artist was selling them. One of our erstwhile bloggers figured out the artist’s name, which I’ve managed to forget. Looks like Addison? If someone can tell GG the name or something else, it could be a candidate. And of course it is fun to “gloat” over them again:

.Touching bases on the Alex Smith discussion. His playoff stats:
5 playoff games: 99.1 rating ,11 TD, 1 INT, 268 YDs per game
2-3 record. One loss was to the NYGs. when Kyle Williams fumbled away 2 punts .
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USBAqX8QUEg
Another loss was to the Colts. He threw 4 TDs, 356 YDs, and put up 44 points.
He might have been the most maligned Bay Area athlete in his time here. Years ago I said that one day he might become one of the most admired. Don’t be surprised if he returns in some capacity – perhaps a QB coach or OC.
Stop confusing the issue with doggone stats!!
Check out Saint’s DC Greg Williams before the 2012 playoff game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhnn9kbqQUA
They were ragging on Alex the whole game. Take a look at the video after the game winner to VD. You can see that he’s having a “chat” with the Saints players- probably something like” Who’s your Daddy now?”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDGn_IRSDTg
Good times. How terrible do the Niners look for getting rid of Harbaugh… its literally one of the biggest mistakes they could possibly have made and all because the owner’s ego was too big.
Yeah, Jimbo might have have gone 6-10 last yr and 3-13 this yr. Clearly its the talent or lack of.
Just like he went immediately from 6-10 to 13-3? Like he immediately went from 5-7 to 10-3 at Michigan? Like the way he made Stanford (Stanford?) an national power? 49er fans who bad mouth Harbaugh deserve everything that’s happening right now, just as much as York does.
Did you buy the engagementring yet for your wedding to Harbs?
Jesus Christ. What a fucking lunatic.
Cant believe he is still in the league doing the same job
This past game = Saints vs Rams….San Mateo born Sean Payton seemed extremely amped-up when the Saints scored vs Greg Williams Rams defense…
Yup they ran it up on him. They were up 3 touchdowns late in the 4th quarter and used a trick play lateral for a touchdown. After hearing this audio (first time I’ve heard it), that play was totally called for.
Williams talks about taking out Vernon Davis ACL and smashing Gore’s head in. Lunatic
Thank you… I remember reading how the 49ers coaching staff was going crazy watching Alex in that Colts game.
This has been the Art and Alex Smith thread. I thought I’d combine the two. Is Art Smith a person? Probably.

He’s a chef.
Who knew? He can’t hold a chafing candle to our chef though.
Speaking of chafing candles, the winter chafing chafing dish is warming up:
The Brewers will not tender contract to Chris Carter and his 40+ bombs – sounds like an X-file.
Instead have signed a guy that moved over to Korea to resurrect his career and tore it up – Eric Thames for 3 years and 15ish million.
Red Birds have interest in Simply Red playing 3B for them.
Marlins signed Edinson Volquez to 2 year, 22 mil deal.
Was ALWAYS MyGuy
Ever seen Chris Carter play LF? :-))
An X-File like him is really out of left field, right?
I gather he has next to zero athletic chops. He’s kind of like Adam Duvall, without the defensive metrics, but with more power, and definitely limited to 1B/DH.
yeah that dude was made to be a DH period. Putting him on the field is bad news.
AJ Ramos anyone?
Are Marlins looking to trade him? Rumor that they were looking to add a guy like Jansen, so maybe. WHIP spiked last year, but lots of saves and nice K rate. Still young.
That’s what I saw on someone’s Tweet.

BOOOOOMMMMM !!!
HOT STOVE!
METS TO RE-SIGN CESPEDES.
https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/803677430078550016
…and the Giants rumors, with regard to Cespedes, finally come to an end.
None chance. Didn’t think Dodgers had much chance either.
4 years, 110 mil, reportedly
Interesting contract. High AAV, semi-short contract. 27M/yr. I think the Mets need him (not that we didn’t).
now Mets have him, Bruce, Granderson, Conforto, Lagares, and Nimmo.
Suppose Bruce gets dealt.
They may not be convinced on Conforto and might want to hang onto him. Bruce is maddening to watch. When he is right he looks like a natural but then he goes into long brutal slumps.
Bobby….get in the game!
Since the AT&T era began, top end free agent hitters absolutely refuse to sign with the Giants so why take these rumors seriously in the first place? Although we did sign Keiunta Span and Aaron Rowand. If we want them, we need to trade for them.
Darn! Would loved to have him in SF, and for just 4 years too. I hope Evans doesn’t panic and give up Arroyo/Beede + others for JD Martinez. So now who? Ian Desmond? At this point I think I’d just roll the dice with Mac/Parker. And maybe take a chance on a bounceback candidate, low cost, 4th OF type like former top prospect Desmond Jennings.
At least this means more $ to throw at Melancon I guess.
I don’t think this changes the Evans calculus one iota.
Top closer – kick tires on trade possibilities – if not, sign some kind of free agent to replace Pagan.
I figured that would happen. He likes the bright lights not one of those that shied away from it form the jump. Knows the park, the culture, like the heat and as I’ve said his family home is in Florida, a quicker trip than from SF. That was always going to be big for him.
Plus the Mets were going to pay because they too need a bat. They went through periods last year were runs did not come easy. As good a young staff they have, they can’t expect a SO every time out.
Seems like a recurring problem for every team in spite of offense on the rise: offensive droughts.

The deal includes a full no-trade clause.
Yep, they own him, ’til crutches do they part.
It’s incautious, but the deal probably doesn’t get done without it.
Now we can put to rest all the ridiculous “Cespedes to the Giants” rumors.

I have a buddy at work from Brazil and naturally he is big soccer fan – his team is in the same league as this club. This team was schedule to play in his home town soon. So very sad. He said there was talk of all the teams in that league lending players so that the team can continue parts of schedule. Pro teams of all sports across the globe travel the airways so often. I believe a soccer team’s plane crashed in the Andes in the 70’s and their harrowing tale became one of survival against the odds.

Bravo!
Greetings Professor.
Will you be at your office hours tomorrow and Thurs? 🙂
I’m not sure if the almond huller/sheller is in Wickson Hall, but I’ll be meeting someone from Plant Sciences there and we’ve got some samples to take care of. You could possibly have a visitor stopping by just to say “hi”.
And would you happen to know if the Irish Pub in town pours a good pint?
Yes, I will be!
Wednesday, 1-3 (I do have a student appointment at 2:00)
Thursday, 12:30-1:30
371 Voorhies Hall (corner of first & A Streets, third floor, wing facing south). It would be awesome if you came by!
DeVere’s Irish Pub is outstanding for a pint (and anything else). It’s been a really nice addition to this town.
Cool beans. Thanks for tip. Hopefully see ya tomorrow or Thursday depending on where we are working and how progressing.

Mets will look to trade an outfielder. Jay Bruce seems the most likely though I hear it’s still possible Curtis Granderson is who gets moved
Granderson had a pretty good year and those times Cespedes was either injured or in a slump it was CG who provided pop in that lineup.
At 35+ he is at that age that the fall off could be sudden. Would depend on what was given up really. I have always liked his game.
He da man. Smart ballplayer.
Some cool prints I bought at an art & wine festival a couple of years ago by an artist named Jane Kiskaddon: https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/8e94a318b1476dd43e5f5e324172775cdb766ad95cc813a5728054a84e4ac4fd.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/9416f7ba3995f0504025ee2bfdef1e03780c545fd726beb6ac53fbbb9bcccc5d.jpg

The Marlins also have signaled that they might be willing to trade current closer A.J. Ramos, especially if revenue-sharing rules change https://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN/status/803552555510931456 …

The #Cubs pick up another former #STLCards player, this time signing OF Jon Jay to one-year, $8M deal per @GDubCub
Wait, we’re NOT getting Jon Jay? I thought that was a done deal!
Is he still on the Supreme Court?
I am guessing that means that Dexter Fowler is not in their plans going forward…I like that. He made the Cubs tough.
Didn’t even think about that aspect of this signing. Good call!
Or something is up with Schwarber. Maybe moving him to the AL to fill a need.
@BontaHill – Multiple buddies of mine keep telling me that Melancon is a done deal to come to SF. We’ll see. Wouldn’t be bad. Still need power, though.
I’m sure the groundskeeper is in on all the discussions, along with Al Rosen’s stepson.
Better that you use their real names – “O Great One”
(hey it wasn’t me who was so humble as to choose The Oracle as ones board name)
Yeah, but I was joking.
Sure, Officer Malloy
Hey play detective for me and tell me if the missing person just found – has more than meets the eye? What does your gut say?

Sounds like a BS story.
Didn’t you say that early on about this too…
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/true-crime/wp/2016/11/29/california-mother-was-branded-and-covered-in-bruises-after-apparent-abduction-husband-says/
It’s the same story?
But is it still BS.
That’s my somewhat educated guess.
For what. Get a fake sword and chant.

It does feel like a Melancon announcement could be made any day.
I hope so. From what I’ve heard, he seems like exactly what they need.

Mlbtraderumors says the Reds might be looking to deal Billy Hamilton. I like that idea.
Rule V Draft next week
The Giants protected Dan “Who Am I” Slania but his MyGuy™ numbers show he improved only slightly less than Coonrod last year. So now it is Dan “Under the Radar” Slania; we should watch him; he had two good starts at Sac last year.
Hot Stove picks are still open
… Firsts: Who gets dealt; who gets extended; what postion/need gets addressed?
Notre Dame guy like Samardzija. And BIG. Really big.
I wonder if he will be in your rotation at Sac this year? If the Giants do not trade too many of them you will have a killer rotation there: Slania, Gage, J-Greg, Stratton, Coonrod, Beede … Blach and Cain will fill the #5 MLB spot and Long Relief.

Breaking: Court of appeals upholds environmental impact report for Warriors San Francisco arena.
Blue Jays showing strong interest in Fowler. Should the Giants? Power is nice but high on-base % also creates offense. Ability to play CF nice too. Pence, Mac, & Park would provide HR power.
Fowler
Belt
Posey
Pence
Crawford
Panik
Nunez
Span

If it’s Mac, he needs to PLAY, not come off the bench as a PH.
It certainly is tough being a young guy in the Giants organization. Expectations are so high and tolerance for failure low.
This left field business is by far more interesting than this closer business. Yet, closer is top priority for Evans.
There’s plenty of tolerance for failure, but you need to be a vet, or you need to have had prior managerial success.
Yes. The tolerance for Casilla’s failures was…positively tolerant.
Yes! Yes! Yes!
I’ll be working west of 113, but I’ll see what I can do to meet a legend in person ☺
I’d meet you after work at the pub, too…how fun would that be?
(The funny thing is I live west of 113. About as far west as you can be and still within Davis.)
More fun than office hours!
Way. I keep saying I’m going to get a bottle of rum for my desk drawer to go with the stash of Coke Zero in my mini-fridge, but I haven’t started drinking on the job (yet).
Sorry I missed this conversation that included references to Highway 113. Been on it so many times going from my small hometown and the Bay Area. Now I like Zamora and 505 better.
Because MAc and Parker provided sooooo many HR this past season? Add to that possibility that Pence is most likely not ever going to reach his previous power numbers even if he is healthy. He is at that age where there is steady decline.
Pence can still hit 20. Prorate his HR total over full season’s complement of PAs. Do same for Mac And Park… 20+ HRs.
Mac and Parker provided 11 HRs in a handful of scattered ABs. Hard to say what they’d do with regular ABs, but the potential is there.
But it would help A LOT if Pence would stay healthy and be a 20+ HR guy again. Unbelievable that Belt led the team with 17. That’s….desultory. That’s the word. Desultory.
YES rather…..Desultory. It’s rather sad that Belt has had over 500 ABs in his career and hit…….wait for it………17 each of those seasons. He is just not the 25/100 guy many here imagined or wished for.
For either Mac or Parker to get 20 jacks they will need about about 800 AB each, which we know is ridiculous. Sometimes if it quacks like a duck…….well you get the picture.
So Mac had 6 HRs in 127 plate appearances, and those were split up across five different call-ups and being glued to the bench. An everyday player would have at least five times that many plate appearances, which is 30 HRs.
I’m not going to make an argument for Parker; I just don’t believe in him.
Raiders are staying in Oak Town
Nice stat/trivia: Over the last four years, only 3 pitchers have been over 200+ innings and <.3.55 ERA. Who are they? (HINT: One is a Giant.)
Not Kershaw, nor Greinke.
Jon Lester?
Not Lester.
Bum-mer
Bum, Scherzer…those are the easier ones…the other is an AL lefty…
Sale?
Not Sale, but you’re verrrrrry warm.
Quintana?
Yep, that’s the one.
Whoa.
Right?! Quintana’s been under the radar because of Sale just like Bummy’s been under the radar because of Kersh.
Bum’s a horse and he’s special. The Giants are very, very fortunate.
I read an article about the White Sox other ace earlier, and with your hint guessed.
Had no idea he had 4 straight 200 ip seasons
I wasn’t sure, but then Lefty gave a good hint.
Drunk history with Lin Manuel Miranda on comedy central…
Good day for the Warriors. Clippers, Spurs, and Cavs all lose. Houston is losing. While pundits are saying the Warriors aren’t as good as they used to be, they’re 16-2 and have the best record in the NBA. Again.
Do they play tomorrow evening?
No, not until Thursday.
Are you staying over tomorrow? Are you busy? Maybe Mr. L & I should meet you for dinner. I really think you two would like each other.
You know how to find me on email, yes?
At La Quinta. I should be able to connect with you via davis email. If that fails, look for message here. I am travelling with my co-worker from Spain. He’s really cool, really smart guy, one of those PhD’s. Hoping his wife doesn’t go into labor while he’s out of town.
I want our Bobby to get us a closer. I hope Clutch is right that Melancon’s coming here. I’d be very happy with that.
I don’t want to trade Beede and I’d prefer not to trade Arroyo. If the Giants can sign a free agent outfielder, yay. But if not, get a closer and this is still a pretty good team. The pitching and defense will have to carry them, but that worked pretty well in 2010 and 2012.
They hit with good power in 2010, and lead the NL in hitting in 2012 , and scored by far the most runs on the road, by 46 if I remember right, your Pitching and Defense narrative is wrong . In the playoffs both those teams set records for hitting, Pablo hit great in 2012, the 2010 team hit HRs in every game of the World Series all 5 of them !
They were last in the majors in HRs in 2012. They won 94 games that year and won the NL West by 8 games. The 2012 team was the best of the three champions and had the least power. I’m not saying they don’t need offense. But speed, defense, and pitching can get it done, too.
AVERAGE !!!, not power in 2012, in PLAYOFFS , hit for Power ! they were a good hitting team, this Pitching and Defense slant on this blog is wrong , they hit well in all 3 World Series runs !
Hi Pete. Long time no see.
I was thinking the same thing, haven’t seen PJ for a while. Whatever happened to Phillip, I guess he didn’t make the move to TWG. Anyone else MIA?
Oh yeah, once the season was over, many went into hibernation.
Philip decided to remain loyal to the Mercury News blog, which I can kind of understand, as that’s where everyone “met”. Sad to lose one of our characters in that way.
Nothing happening, to talk about,, I was bored the other day read CC’s post about Dozier not being a good fit, does not like dead pull hitters with power, likes slap hitters that go the other way, and replied on that , but it was an old post 3 or 4 days old .
I saw it, and quietly wept with joy.
Welcome back, PJ!
After 1am here.
PS
Matthew is feeling better. More to follow. Fire up that STOVE….
Good to hear. You feelin’ better too? Hopefully cabin fever the worst of it.
CBA may be ironed out amicably today. Hot stove most definitely heating up.
Edwin Encarnacion may be the next big name off the board. Astros may be the team that gets it done.
