I’m anxious to watch Tyler Beede, my dark horse candidate for 2018 NL Cy Young Award and World Series MVP.
Breckeroni got fooled by the timing of this new post….
After the latest medical procedure I awoke to find Dr. Molly Griswold (Rene Russo), reading my charts at the foot of the bed. After shutting and reopening (only) one time I come to find out that it was really some orderly that looked like Cheech Marin and he was “collecting” all the so called specimens.
Sigh https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/170961991a6788699b130533f046293de45fb099ff4724aaebda7c1c7110c403.jpg

It’s Moore pitching…rough 1st.
Beede in the other game–two scoreless, despite a few baserunners.
Ah…I see
FINALLY was able to open up mlb.tv after 2 days of trying, and calling MLB.com for assistance. As it turns out, I had to use the Safari instead of Chrome browser in order to see the game. Chrome has worked fine for years.
I hate technology.
Ruh-oh – it’s 1-0 Gints, top of 3, but the highlights at the bottom of the screen displays “Rendon’s solo HR.” One of those delays…
Glad you figured it out. I have occasional weird glitches with Chrome, too, even though it’s my go-to browser.
BUT I MISSED THE DOGER GAME LAST NIGHT! :o(
It was on TV. MLB channel
Mine has worked fine on Chrome from the first day it was available.
Call me a horrible American, but if Posey’s stiff neck causes him to pull out of the WBC, I’m good with that.
I call you a Loyal Giant.
I really hope he does. But, at least this year the Giants finally have a viable backup catcher. The ineptitude of Trevor Brown forced Posey to catch too many games last year. I agree with some (cough, TO and PJ, cough) that the “Posey is tired” excuse gets old, but I think it had more legitimacy last year. I’m sorry but Brown is just not a big league catcher. Hundley should hopefully allow the Giants to rest Posey far more, and he needs it now that he’s hitting 30.
The whole WBC needs to be re-thought. No need to put MLB guys at risk.
How about top prospects and recently retired MLB stars?
Papi, Hudson, Javy, ARod, etc.
I see Duggar is carrying on the torch for inept Giants OF prospects.
He’s actually supposed to be a plus-defender. Anyone can have a bad moment.
lol, I know, I just could not help myself.
Let’s just say I’m not holding my breadth for the team to develop a “starting” OF soon when it’s been over two decades.
Yesterday we had a bit of a slip with one of our good young guys too.
Wow, Parker looked pretty bad on that ball to RF
Ayup.
Wonder if Johnny Baseball passes out this/his photo back home? And then out comes his Burro

Bad effort by KT on that tag.
Those 2 scores weren’t really Suarez’s fault.
Yanked.
Reynolds in.
Precisely. He had 2 outs and somebody drilled a ball right thru Hill’s wickets. Those 2 guys scored.
What a really lousy TV feed by LAA.
Petit just gave up BtoB singles to old team.
Talk about a cryptic play-by-play guy….I’m on a conference call, so give me end of inning scores, too, Monty Moore
Still 2-1
Now, I suppose you’ll ask me who’s got 2.
You’re like Jack Buck towards the end….
Careful, now we’re getting into Chef territory.
Coonrod on the bump.
Harry would say “dornooc is his name backwards”
Saw Harry on TV this AM
Thanks for the lineups, GG!

As I was on my call, I got an email from the Warriors that I can buy my official Matt Barnes jersey…if they were into cost savings, they would have made him wear #40 to sell off all the leftover Harrison Barnes uni’s…nope. They gave him his ol’ #22
Mine is in the mail with my stick on Tats
And a rap sheet too?
When is it going to be delivered?
I’m too old to even consider the bad look of “old man in a jersey” ensemble
Get the shorts.
Your socks might not even show. They’re so long.
But come on, a Matt Barnes jersey? How can you pass that up. Maybe if you put it on it’ll make you want to drive 100 miles to try to beat up a guy for dating the ex-wife you feel like you still own.
And then cap it off by spitting in your ex-wife’s face.
And maybe try to make people believe you’re dating Rihanna.
http://deadspin.com/matt-barnes-implies-he-might-be-dating-rihanna-gets-cr-1724554630
In fairness, I would believe Matthew on that one. 🙂
OAKLAND, CA — The Golden State Warriors have signed forward Matt Barnes to a contract, the team announced today. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released.
Barnes, 36, appeared in 54 games (13 starts) with the Sacramento Kings this season, tallying 7.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 25.3 minutes per game. Barnes owns career averages of 8.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 23.7 minutes in 909 career games (354 starts) over 14 NBA seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers, Sacramento Kings, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors, Phoenix Suns, Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers and Memphis Grizzlies.
The 6’7” forward will make his second stint with the Warriors after spending the 2006-07 and 2007-08 campaigns with Golden State, where he helped the Warriors upset the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks in the 2007 playoffs and posted averages of 11.1 points and 5.7 rebounds while hitting 42.2 percent (19-of-45) from three-point range in 11 games (three starts) that postseason. Barnes has appeared in the playoffs in each of the last seven seasons and owns career marks of 7.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.00 steals in 25.1 minutes over 83 postseason games (48 starts).
Barnes will wear uniform #22. The Warriors roster now stands at 15 players.
And after so many here have expressed legitimate concerns about athletes who get arrested for domestic violence, no one has anything negative to say about Matt Barnes’ DV arrest?
http://www.espn.com/los-angeles/nba/news/story?id=5549456
Count me among the not-thrilled to have Matt Barnes back. From a basketball perspective, I understand the move after KD’s injury. From a fan perspective–don’t like Barnes and haven’t for a long time. They must really have been feeling desperate on Tuesday night.
West and Meyers I guess I now trust. Barnes is not the worst human on the planet apparently. He just has a proclivity for being an immature bad-ass.
I see your point(s).
Apparently is in a big tub of goo – with other pro and amateur athletes as well as mothers and fathers of the human race which broadly encompasses every profession known to mankind from AAA to ZZZ.
Maybe Meyers had West sit down with Barnes and ask him some tough questions.

It’s a little late for that. He has a contract.
I knew he had a contract.
Marrero is trying his best to get a seat on the bench this year.
There is baseball and then this crazy “sport”

KT stand up 3B
Gorkys follows up … two Guys high on the 25-Man votes so far.
Mine, at least.
Did anybody see who dropped the ball at 1st?
Alvarado (RHP) may just have punched his bus ticket.
Suarez and Osich. No beuno.
Suarez is a minor leaguer. Osich was supposed to compete for a bullpen job. I’m feeling pretty good about my Okert pick.
Same here with Fried Okert : )
Osich needs to go because I mix them up but primarily Okert has nastier stuff with his funky delivery.
The Suarez I saw pitch today at LAA actually looked pretty good.
Didn’t he give up a run or two in his last appearance?
He ended the year in AA. Not in line to make the team, but a fairly well regarded prospect for his stage of development–only drafted in 2015.
Gave up 2 today.
Let me retract that. He didn’t do all that well. He looked good though. It was Andrew, I think.
It was–Andrew’s the lefty. And he looked OK. Got in a bit of trouble, but not too bad.
I thought he looked very smooth.
Mac is getting a nice long look today. So is Marrero. I hope he wasn’t the one that dropped the throw at 1st though.
KT with another hit.
I’m not in the group that thinks he needs to sit in Sac.
Not about thinks, it is what Giants management will do, he has options and they like veterans, he should make the 25 man roster but will not .
I have little doubt you’re right about this. it still burns me a little. Thing is Kelby is almost a veteran himself.
It burns me, too. KT deserves that utility spot. He’s earned it. The fact that he has options so they can keep Beckham or Rollins seems ridiculous (and irrelevant) to me.
Irreverent too.
If I were Queen, the bench would be Hundley, Ruggiano or Marrero, Gillaspie, Hill, and Tomlinson.
Hundley is obvious. Hill and Ruggiano (or Marrero) offer positional versatility and RH pop. Gillaspie offers LH pop. Kelby’s the Designated Rabbit.
That would be a good bench. Balanced and experienced and offers positional coverage. KT can even play OF in a pinch.
I’m sorry; You mean you AREN’T Queen? What the hell have I been kneeling all this time for?
This had me chuckling. 🙂
I have to say, I’m more of a democrat than a monarchist, so kind of like the ‘dgg for president’ idea over ‘Lefty for Queen’.
Well, now, hell yes. I thought it was a done deal with Lefty. Deeg is sneaky strong; don’t argue with that lady. She’s liable to kick your butt and then bury you in the snow ’til Summer.
or late Spring.
One time I had to go in a van to Yellowstone, across the “Going to the Sun road” in Glacier NP. Just before leaving, we learned there was some doubt as to the pass being open, but the plow crews were finishing up, on time, for its opening on June 15th. Snow at the side of the road was about 8 feet high, in my memory. Summer comes late in the Northern Rockies.
Well, hell, summer it is then. Deeg may never un-bury us.
What?!
I tried telling you ……

Where’s Gorkys?
Hallucinatory vitamins I see ……
Kelby’s LF assist led off the Giants’ ten fielding highlights of 2017.
But more generally, they should figure out some way to get him into the lineup whenever there’s a lefty starter. Every time. His career average vs. lefties is .336, and the team has serious problems against lefties. Nunez and Williamson actually hit WORSE against lefties.
I agree but I’ve already made a post ranting about this today.
Duggar with two hits … if you want to see a SlapHappyGuy™ that is a rising star …
http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=sa827165&position=OF
I want him in CF one year from now; lead off hitter too.
I swear, Hwang and Brown look somewhat alike.
Hwang went 2/2
Gorkys, KT and Mac 2/4 each.
All four of them are on my 25man entry.
I don’t have a good feel for Hwang yet. But the other three….
me too.. 🙂
Box score shows he made a throwing error but I did not see it with Marrero at 1B.
In the sense that all orientals look the same, that’s true.
That’s crap. I thought you might be smarter than that.
C’mon, they look completely different.
C’mon, there’s like zero resemblance. Hwang’s face is like 50% wider than Brown’s.

How many errors have their been in this game?
More’n a couple.
I read there were 10…. whoa.
hwang made a pretty bad decision taking 3B in the 9th. he’s already in scoring position, so he’s got to be 100% sure he will be safe. if he’s thrown out, the ball game’s over. it looked to me that a good throw, and he’s dead meat.

Given the quality of information you normally operate with, who gnu. Perjury is perjury, after all.
That’s right. He lied to the Senate confirmation committee, apparently.
Neither the questions nor the answers were very precise. There was no perjury.
Baloney.
That’s certainly a well reasoned legal opinion.
Read the transcript. I don’t think it’s even close.
“…if there is any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of this campaign, what will you do?
Sessions: I’m not aware of any of those activities. I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians, and I’m unable to comment on it.”
Nothing to see here. Move along.
I read a attorney’s opinion, and asked. It can be.
We’ll see…there is certainly a argeted plan by Soros and the Dems, as they had pre-printed signs 2 hours after it first came up. I will not argue that Trump is a loose cannon and a neophyte politically, but this organized politics is -in my opinion – the exact reason why the elections went as they did.
Doubtful.

While I think the top 4 and the team D / infield will keep the Giants competitive this season for a post season berth, I never thought they would have a winning record in ST.
Not that it really matters, but the Giants are specially weakened during slit squad games as they have a poorly contructed 40 man roster. A lot of the holes are filled with dubious talent.
As much as I can’t stand them, look into the Yankees who are looking great after getting rid of a lot of excess baggage the past few seasons plus having drafted well over the past few years. Add to that that the pitching is looking really good.
The honest question I have about Rollins:
Does some elusive “veteran presence” REALLY mean more in the grand scheme of things to a roster than what Tomlinson would bring?
Look at this team. In the infield alone, guys like Panik and Crawford don’t need some mentor. They have it figured out. So, who, potentially, does Rollins help with his great wisdom? He’s a good clubhouse guy? What are Posey, Span, Pence, Bum, Melancon, Crawford, Et al?
I’m not in on Rollins, especially at the expense of a needed asset like Tomlinson.
The Giants have plenty of veterans.
Non of the infielders are known to be vocal, emotional types, not Craw, Panik, Belt. Nunez seems quiet. Conor was the only one in the PS last year to show some emotion. I can see where a guy like Rollins who is obviously much more of a vet than even Crawford and Belt, being able to provide guidance to younger infielders, specially Arroyo.
Kind of silly to include Melancon no? Why would you assume he would feel comfortable being new and a pitcher, speaking to infielders and any position players.
It’s not specifically about infielders…if Arroyo needs that, then Rollins should coach in Sacto
Exactly. It makes no sense to have Rollins on the roster to mentor guys who can’t be on the roster because Rollins is on the roster.
This is like Who’s On First? Circular, brilliant, and funny!
It’s also worth mentioning that the Philly fans had soured on him in his last years there, for example, changing his JRoll nickname to “JStroll,” as in he didn’t run out ground balls (or “JPopup,” for obvious reasons). So that great veteran presence thing may be not as imagined.
This reminds me of the Miguel Tejada/Orlando Cabrera moves in 2011, sending rookie Brandon Crawford back to the minors…washed-up has-beens displacing young guys who are ready to contribute. Craw was and Kelby is (already has).
I agree. It’s time to either figure out how to get Kelby into at least half the major league games or else trade him. They’re just flushing his career down the toilet, it’s stupid and it isn’t fair to him. By the playoffs last year he was platooning with Panik, remember? He started game 1 of the NLDS against Lester. And that was when Panik was hitting well.

The public WiFi section is worth reading
The guy has amazing hot streaks, but no one frustrates me like Klay ….he has way too many brain fart/disinterested moments.
Steph 2 for his last 23 on 3’s, but you pick on Klay nice !
You got stats down….Klay has shot nearly as bad, and has many more head scratchers. I get we are blessed with an amazing team. As a fan, I get to “pick on” guys who deserve it. Steph deserves it sometimes as well.
Curry is having his worst 3 point shooting season as a pro.
The game is more than shooting
It is, but Curry’s game has a lot to do with his best ever ability to shoot the ball. I’m wondering if it’s possible that he may may be starting to decline a bit physically. He’s not a freak athlete like James, or even Durant. I don’t know what he does in the off season, but he might need to ramp up the strength and endurance training.
Good point…I believe he did that last off season.
He’s an amazing player in a very physically demanding game, but is at a physical disadvantage against nearly every opponent. If his body slips even a little, I think it probably has an impact.
Carter Capp’s throwing motion is being scrutinized.
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/mlb-has-clarified-its-carter-capps-position/
Looks like his questionably legal hop delivery will no longer be legal. And check out that GIF of his new 2-hop delivery that he broke out for the Padres last week! BTW, I didn’t know that he was on the Padres now.
We now have ‘foot drag (marks)’ as a technical term in MLB. We live in strange days.
Not to be confused with ‘skid marks’.
Good. Clearly illegal.
It is SO bogus. Batters can’t leave the box (not that there’s anywhere to go).
I think the weirder aspect of his delivery is his extreme hand behind the back push with the ball. The fact that he can get the ball ready for delivery without that long delay given by the jump, is going to be an something to watch. All I’m saying is the jump may not be the weirdest part of his delivery.
It’s incredible that they’ve allowed this to go on for so long. At least the peabrains at Fangraphs are coming around. I used to get raked there for pointing out that Capp’s delivery is transparently illegal (‘if the umpires say it’s legal, it’s legal’), now they’re waking up.
Capp learned that delivery from President Nixon!
He probably met with the Russians last year too.
“Reports surfaced Thursday identifying several more people who were involved in President Trump’s campaign who had contact with Russia’s U.S. ambassador, Sergey Kislyak. One of the Trump aides was his son-in-law Jared Kushner, who, along with ousted adviser Michael Flynn, met Kislyak in December for what a senior administration official described as an “introductory meeting” and “kind of inconsequential hello.” Another campaign national security adviser, J.D. Gordon, also disclosed Thursday that he and fellow Trump advisers Carter Page and Walid Phares had talked to Kislyak in July, during the Republican National Convention. Gordon said he expressed the desire to improve U.S.-Russia relations in the meeting. Page, who has called reports of Trump campaign contacts with Russia “fake news,” said he did not deny the meeting happened.”
Basketball team at Levelland TX high school has just about put every play, cut, and move in the Kerr/Warriors playbook into their play. They are 27-0 currently. This Kerr guy seems to know his business.

Curry just isn’t quite what he was the last two seasons. He needs to acknowledge that at some point and make some adjustments. He did a very good job of that in the game they won against Cleveland earlier this season.
No one was as bad as Klay tonight. No one.
Curry had a decent offensive night until it was desperation time, then clanked a bunch of 3’s…but he drove early, and made plays. Klay never came close to getting it together in any way
http://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2017/3/2/14794348/matt-cain-ty-blach-sf-giants-fifth-starter
Brisbee comments on Cain.
Pretty spot-on, I’d say.
Thanks, Paul. Yup. To borrow a word from the good doctor…
Desultory
OK. Not one word about his curve. He hasn’t thrown it well in quite awhile (or even been able to). Not one word. I thought his curve looked nearly as good as it did years ago. If Moore doesn’t get raked, then why Cain? I understand the lack of support; I don’t understand the blind bias this early in ST. I’m, under no circumstances, supporting him automatically having a starting role. I think he should have an unbiased assessment, however. This is like a jr. high school clique. We need to get over our sense of betrayal by a player and his performance. The blind bias is starting to piss me off. Not really. Well, sorta.
Because Moore was very good last season including a great start in the playoffs. Moore also has great stuff and even added another pitch with Posey’s encouragement.
Cain has not been good for years. Has no control anymore and only average stuff. The Giants have better options and should not throw away games in April and May based on some hope that it will be 2012 again. I think you might be projecting with the blind bias comment.
BTW — I don’t feel betrayed. I just think he is done as an effective starter and has been for a few seasons now. It is time to hand the fifth spot to one of the pitchers the have developed so that they don’t kill the pen like they did with Cain and Lincecum starts the last couple of seasons. Also games in April and May count too.
Yeah, Brisbee made that argument–if Bumgarner gets knocked around in the Cactus League, no one’s lifting an eyebrow, because he has a sustained and current record of excellence. Cain has something to prove after the last few years. Saying he “lost focus” during the second inning isn’t a great sign that he’s taking his situation seriously enough.
Relaxo – fans want to see the best 25 break camp that’s all. The Jimmy Rollins situation is analogous – OTH vets holding back kids who are obviously better.
http://www.csnbayarea.com/giants/rollins-sharp-spring-debut-second-base-let-instincts-take-over
“Sharp instincts.” Barf.
This whole thing smacks of selfishness on Rollins’ part. He’s had his career. Move over!
I noticed that, too (no word about the curve). That said, it’s not going to help him if he has a mid-80s FB that he can’t locate. The FB readings are the real news. Hopefully that’s just spring training stadium problems. But if not, it’s party over. Cain could keep his job if he’s still low 90s. None chance if he’s topping out at 86.
A familiar, Freaky situation.
I know most of you are on to basketball by now, but young Mr. Brown certainly had himself a day behind the plate today, didn’t he? Just checked out the highlights. Anything else I should know?
Beede did really well. Melancon is 9 up, 9 down this spring. Law had a good outing. Marrero, the dark horse bench candidate poached from the Red Sox AAA team, hit another homer.
The Giants lost both games today, and in the home game, the two teams combined for 10(!) errors.
And that’s your Giants update.
Melancon makes my heart happy. Marrero is on my 25 man, so I was pleased to see he is continuing to rake. Think he his ahead of Ruggiano at this point? Beede proving he is the future. Law better be good, because there are still some holes in that pen. 10 errors? How many were on KT? I saw the replay of his triple. With his speed and just a little luck, he could turn one of those into an inside the park homer at AT&T. How fun would that be? Also, Pence should never, ever, grow the beard back. 🙂
You get an up arrow for just your first sentence scouting report.
And here I thought you were giving me an up arrow for the last sentence.
That’s an obvious one, but ANY scouting report containing “makes my heart happy” goes down in my book as a classic.
Wow Pence looks 10 years younger. I may have to shave.
No errors for Kelby yesterday, but he had two hits.
You forgot Belt’s 1.017 OPS
I’d like to reiterate that the 2 runs off Suarez came on a (non)error by Hill on a shot thru his legs, and a (non)catch by Parker on a drive off his glove on which he took a bad route. Desultory.
Yep, I was watching during Suarez’s inning, too. I thought he looked good. Plenty of time for him; he’s not trying to make this year’s team.
Thanks PV … some AtBat audio at work and looking at the Box Score blinds me to that.
Parker’s defense needs to be factored in. I still think Mac has a clear edge there and can shine given playing time in the next four weeks. Even now his current batting average is the same as Parker’s, .333; just not the power yet. [Insert PJ’s comment here _______ ]
Parker’s out of options, right? Not only that, but he’s swinging the bat really well this spring, and connecting.
He still makes me nervous with his twitchy ABs. I don’t like watching him in the box. He also doesn’t have the best range-finder on balls to the outfield.
That is a factor in Parker’s favor but as we talk of it here, you want the best players out there not the guys that you are forced to “use or lose”. How about start Mac and the Bench has Parker? [Hundley, Conor, KT, Gorkys, Parker?]
I’m for Parker because I think he’s the better player. I’ve always been for Parker over Mac.
I’m of just the opposite opinion.
I think most TWGers favor Mac over Parker.
This calls for a HAAK poll!
Just to tick off Peter, I prefer Mac’s defense over Parker’s.
I don’t care about ticking off anybody – I just don’t think there’s any comparison.
Except for Peter and me.
Botom line is they are both OurGuys™ so either one getting a real shot should be okay with most of us. If neither one makes the team then you will hear an uproar.
The ball jumps off his bat when he makes contact – his swing reminds me of Darrell Strawberry’s.
It’s hot in Sacramento in the summer
Yes he did, but earlier, another reader called him inept. If you ask me, it’s pretty remarkable that he only took up catching a few years ago.
Where have you been?
Busy busy busy. I get home and try to catch up with the comments, then I see a new one was posted 9 hours before, so I have to try and catch up with that one!!
Are you coaching?
Oh yeah. Had our first practice on real grass yesterday and another tomorrow and Saturday weather permitting.
Coaching baseball, being a dad, and working full-time. That’s busy, busy, busy.
Yesterday left work early for baseball, got home in time to eat, then went to a Cub Scout pack meeting and got home at 9.
You’re a Cub Scout leader too?
NOOOOOOOOOO! But we parents go to a pack meeting once a month. The week after next, though, I got wrangled into chaperoning a 6th grade science camp!! I’m in charge of 8 6th graders for a week! Yikes!!
I can still recite the Boy Scout Law (with lightening speed)
I can’t type it very fast, though.
I wasn’t really that focused on baseball this afternoon. Today’s events unfolded like Watergate in real time at a dizzying speed. I knew once Republicans started calling for his recusal, Sessions would have to recuse himself. I was stunned that it happened today, happened that fast. Tonight I watched the documentary All the President’s Men Revisited.
The next several months are going to be fascinating!!
Didn’t I see him throw two out at 2B? I think I remember that.
Gunned down three, according to the highlight reel.
They’re all here, and worth watching:

‘Hundley who?’ ;o)
If I were Kelby, I’d be getting close to the point of walking in Bochy’s office and saying ‘play me or trade me’. He’s going to be 27 in June, there are plenty of teams who would give him a serious shot at a starting position, they must be able to get some kind of maybe-he-will-maybe-he-won’t Austin Slater-type prospect to prepare for the coming Outfield Apocalyse. They finally got over the Adrianza fantasy, now they’ve got a new one about Rollins and it looks like Kelby will be spending another year in the minors. They’re flushing his career down the toilet. Bah.
Kelby will make the team.
Then who won’t? Everyone is talking like Rollins is a sure thing, presumably Gillaspie will, they’re going to carry 3 backup infielders? And it isn’t enough to make the team. At the very least he should be starting somewhere every game a lefty starts against them. 2b, ss, 3b, lf, somewhere. He hit .336 against lefties last year and Nunez and Williamson hit significantly worse against lefties than righties.
I don’t know for sure. Alex says from his perspective, “Jimmy Rollins has to be a slight favorite for the second backup infielder job at the moment.” I read the key phrases in that statement as “slight favorite” and “at the moment.”
I want Kelby Tomlinson and Conor Gillaspie to make the team.
Rollins is hitting .200 with a .533 OPS this spring, after hitting in the low .200s the last couple seasons. So of course it makes sense that he’d be “a slight favorite.”
/rolls eyes
I just now said this smacks of selfishness on Rollins’ part. What was Evans thinking? I hope the Giants FO knows there’s going to be a lot of pissed-off fans if Rollins makes the team and not Kelby.
I’m hoping they’re giving him a look so he can catch on with another (desperate) team…
I haven’t heard that Rollins came to camp hoping for a showcase. One of the NRIs came to camp with that in mind, but not Rollins. He’s determined to make the team. Evans should only have invited him over to dinner.
Hey! New nickname! “Eye” Rollins…
He’s got “sharp instincts!”

No speed though…
Kelby makes me smile!
Seems silly to be losing sleep over the bleeping reserves. Not to worry. Tomlinson is going to be on the 25. Rollins was competition but mostly an insurance policy. Maybe he could impart some wisdom. But I predict he’ll be retiring by end of spring.
I hope you’re right, earlytimes. Rollins could impart his wisdom by retiring and writing a book.
Do you have mucho snow in MT this year? The Sierras are beautiful!

Wow, if you didn’t see the video of the spillway disaster (follow-on of the helicopter in the snow), go back and have a look at that one. What a mess.
Ayup. That spillway looks like Gunnison Canyon.
We’ve had mostly cold weather and lots of snow. I think the snowpack is slightly below normal in most parts of the state, although that varies in the different river basins.
Yes, like Aubrey Huff!
Hear, hear. We should also remember the order of events, Rollins invited before Hwang signed his minor league deal. I doubt the former would have occured if the team knew they were landing Hwang. Now they are being kind to Rollins, and as Paul says below, giving him some visibility to teams that might have a place for an old IF.
Yesterday’s was a sloppy game. Seems like every time I tuned in, here came another error. I lost count. Here’s Hank’s rundown on the error-filled game:
“The Giants lost to the White Sox 8-6 in a game with 10 errors, six by the Giants, two each by center fielder Steven Duggar, second baseman C.J. Hinojosa and catcher Nick Hundley.
Hundley committed one error when he threw to second with nobody covering on a very delayed steal by Rymer Liriano. Crawford should have been at the bag but was caught flat-footed by Liriano’s delay in running, a first for the shortstop, who said in Yogi-esque fashion, “I’d never gotten got before.”
Meanwhile, Trevor Brown threw out THREE baserunners in the road game.
I should look this up – when is Opening Day? Vs. who??
Sat. April 1 – Athletics!

Lazy bastardos…
Nope. Sunday, April 2, vs. Snakes in AZ.
No wonder I’m confused. Gracias!
Really doesn’t matter if parker or mac are the LF at the start of the season since the Giants will most likely find a LF for the future during the season.
Going all Nostradamus on us this fine Friday?
yep, just stating something that’s obvious moving forward. I said early last year out of ST the team needed to get a pitcher (as did many so called experts this blog never agrees with). Outcome? They went out and got Moore. I also thought they would get a closer and they didn’t and it bit them in the ass in the PS.
This year so many folks think Melancon is all we need and that’s far from the case. Will absolutely make the team better, but this team as is right now will not hit enough to make them a sure thing to make a serious run deep into the PS.
They will need hitting and LF is the obvious place to start. Heck, all the OF spots are a question, with both Pence / Span an injury away from being marginal.
People keep asking why all these retreads being brought into camp? Because the team is not entirely comfortable with what they have that is why. Do you think they will say that in the media? Of course not. No team would.
What kind of stats do you want from Mac or Parker to let them keep the job?
.275 with 12 HR’s at ASB?
That’s not enough and you know that. If the Giants got 275/12 from either one as the “starter” they are in trouble. You would be assuming the rest of the team would hit at or past projection and you know that is difficult to do, counting injuries and down years for any player(s).
But … what if the Giants had Cutch and he was hitting .275 with 12 HR’s at the ASB? You would call that “not enough” then?
Yet how many MLB OF’ers are going to be above that? (adjusted to the Giants pitcher-friendly park.). This is easy to check but my first take says that is better than average … but I may be wrong. Maybe I can look it up since it is Friday … stand by.
of course its all relative to the situation. If Cutch was the best defensive OF in MLB and provided steals and other attributes, those numbers would be ok. But for an MVP candidate in his past that is not good enough, plus taking into account his lack of D nowadays.
