Everyone can admit it: This was supposed to be the year the Astros and Indians faced off in an epic ALCS. I thought so anyway. The Yankees, however, had other plans. They’re excellent starting pitching and home run-hitting prowess unseated the Indians who froze in the headlights of game 5. The Yankees could really go all the way here if Tanaka, Severino and Sabathia continue their winning ways.
Once again we saw the ripple effects of weak starting pitching in last night’s game 5 NLDS marathon. While the Cubs and Walgreens supplied the bulk of the strong starting outings in the postseason so far, the performances by Hendricks and Gonzalez contributed directly to the chaos that ensued in the “poopy pants game”, as Jimmy Rollins so eloquently dubbed it.
The ensuing chaos made America’s pastime look sorta like a Spring Training scrimmage full of camp invitees…
