Ty Blach (4-4, 4.24) Vs Tyler Chatwood (6-7, 4.16)
It takes Father’s Day to bring the words “happy” and “Giants” in the same context since the San Francisco baseball club is paying a game today.

Five Questions
- Will Ty Blach be a rotation mainstay beyond 2017 for the Giants?
- Is Eduardo Nunez trade bait?
- Can the Giants turn things around and at least reach .500 this year?
- Will the Rockies pitch around Ty Blach to face Denard Span?
- Just who is the hotter hitter: Gorkys or Joey Baseball?
Breckeroni is channeling his inner JStreet and Russ Hodges.
#GoGiants
That’s right, Lon.
1. He’ll be one of the guys in the rotation;
2. They should all be trade bait, but Nunez definitely is;
3. Good one;
4. Only if they’re smart;
5. Panik;
Span may be a no tool player.
You can definitely relate to that phrase.
He’s lucky that wasn’t Posey’s single he failed to score on, or he’d be getting yelled at right now.
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. No. Alas.
4. Might look that way.
5. Joey Baseball.
Crawford’s mistake there.
Why did Crawford slow down? Cost us a run!
I think he probably assumed it was going to get through the infield.
1) Yes
2) Yes (must get value, Evans!)
3) No. I’m *hoping* we can match the 2013 #rockbottom record of 76-86. Lacking that, #dontlose90
4) LOL. Span…come on dude. You’re a professional veteran. We need more!
5) Joey Baseball. Gorkys will settle back into mediocrity any day now.
Gorkys is going to need to step it up considerably if he hopes to reach mediocrity.
Gorkys mentions are your crack habit.
Gorkys dedicates that bunt single to TO!
Save us, Ty Blach. You’re our only hope.
I’m starting to think our infield defense is overrated.
Double, error on Gorkys (throw).
Bear down, Ty. Get out of this.
Nice job.
Can’t watch these Giants so listening on the radio — strikes me that Jon and Dave are more critical today (no wonder). Questioned Span as to why he didn’t score, bitter about Crawford not slideing and initially scalding Gorkys for fumbling Arenado’s double that then turned into a triple, so they are not the only ones
You definitely get more honesty from those two.
Jon Miller is not a fan of Gorkys’ defense. I’ve noticed that before.
Wonder what he said about Pence Friday. That was the worst game any Giants outfielder has had all season. I’m honestly interested if he or Dave were honest in that game.
They were.
Good to hear.
I didn’t listen to that one on the radio, but I absolutely agree. That was brutal.
‘Hill trying to get on base for Gorkys Hernandez’? How can you say that with a straight face?
Hill in the lineup instead of Kelby is dumb.
You could take out “instead of Kelby” and it would still be an excellent sentence.
Hill on the team is dumb. Hill in the majors is dumb.
Sign a contract with Comcast/NBC.
So far Blach looking good. Three SO in two innings shows he’s got his stuff. Great changeup.
If Wotus is the bunt coach, he has work to do.
I’ve never seen more MLB players stab at the ball like our Giants.
You catch the ball with your bat. Huh?
Yeah…I mean, these guys should have learned that when they were 7 years old…man, what a frustrating group.
It’s actually a very good drill for getting your “eye” back for normal hitting. You practice catching the ball with your bat for an hour and you’ll notice how well your ‘eye” improves and you start to easily see the ball from when it’s still in the pitcher’s hand all the way to your bat.
Blach’s parents in attendance?
Yes, with 90 or so close friends.
Not that close, Chatwood
If Buster doesn’t swing, not a strike.
Do you know how many pitches in every game are such. How rediculous to point it out about a guy at the top of the league in hitting.
What mental Giants….
Three base running errors in four innings. Bad teams find ways to lose.
Just stay on the bag please Slater
Or he should just take 2nd because he’s already about halfway there
I used to think a good ass chewing by Sabes or Bobby would kick this team in the butt and fire them up. They could certainly use a good chewing. But now I’ve reconsidered this and concluded that Sabes or Bobby really wouldn’t be all that credible in doing so. They are the ones who fattened up these guys with those multi million overpayed contracts. You fatten up a beef cow or a hog right before the slaughter, and you could say that that’s what Sabes and Bobby did. Because we have been getting slaughtered, maybe we need to put a lineup out there of some hungry guys. The guys with the big contracts, for that kind of money, should be carrying the team.
Bobby doesnt appear to possess an ass-chew gene. Sabes does.
I hope Jonah is just half as talented as Nolan.
It started with 80%, yesterday. Expectations have been lowered.
I still want 80%!
You’ll settle for 50 and like it.
True enough. Is Jonah still at San Jose?
It appears thus.
t/y. That’s a long way from San Francisco (metaphorically, not as crows fly).
Does Arenado ever make an out. With the batting average he has against the Giants he must be hitting under 200 against the rest of the league
I see how it can be done! Walk Arenado, and then get to work on a GIDP.
That’s the infield we thought we had.
Blach has guts on the bump. His stuff isn’t electric, but his fight is.
A bright spot to the season. He’s sure to stay when Bumgarner is activated. If Cueto isn’t traded, who loses a starter’s job?
Moore is my clear choice. I just wish he had a healthy portion of Blach’s mound presence..he lost something this year and I don’t know why
Thinking there will be a hamstring pull.
Matt’s start yesterday helps his chances. I suppose it really comes down to what happens in June/July.
Fireworks right in the middle.

Nice pic.
I heard Rags and Gardy were gonna take Moore out for beers and break his left arm so he could start over as a RHP
He grew up at each level of ball pitching in Denver….
Hit a home run for the folks, Ty.
It’s the old adage, Pitch a shutout and hit a home run.
And it’s no time like this guy is Kershaw, though he thinks he should get the Kershaw calls.
Then again, Ty has hit Kershaw pretty well.
He’s definitely showing out in front of family and friends
Can they move the mike away from chatter guy?
“Come on A-Rod!”
Yeah, CRAW!!!!
The ‘Losers” Just scored —- Yeah!
Good things happen when you keep your team in the ballgame. Well-deserved lead for Blach
OUCH!
He’s gonna be one big bruise by the ASB
Don’t worry. He’s only a part-time catcher.
Send in Strickland. He must have some stupid grudge to settle.
When was the last time a Giants pitcher started a game at Coors with 4 shutout innings?
1897 – Josh Rosin Bag. An ambidextrous Giant pitcher who went 6 shut out innings
famous Zito shutout in 2012, no your History .
CU is history?
Brown noser, ass kisser, you must be loved by all your bosses .
Bwhahahaha!!! You should write songs.
http://www.amiright.com/misheard/song/louielouie.shtml
WoW – you’d be a great Proctologist Peter. If I close my eyes I can even see you wearing the gloves.
On his head like Evans (who is in a booth wearing his special 5 finger discount proctologist trader’s bingo hat salivating over the trading deadline at this very moment).
Please don’t be struck blind CU.
Come on, Peter. Slow your roll. Goodness.
He said, “no your history”. Of course he isn’t.
I am fond of Basque History
Does Los Banos still host the Basque picnics?
I am 1/8 French Basque and like sheep.
John Adams was fond of them too. A good portion of the US Constitution is based on Basque legal codes.
Boom, two boners right there grammar wise
Dude the fact that I said “1897” – you should of humped up and released your tight sphincter knowing I was joshing….
This is serious business , no time for joshing .
THIS IS SERIOUS!!!
And don’t you ever,,,ever.. (oh shit, I forgot).
Yes Sir Mr. P. Johnson
Only 21 years after statehood for Colorado!
last year.
3 for 32 BB9
.094 BA
Might be the 3 worst swings in succession I’ve ever seen from him. To me, him and Moore seem to suffer from the same problem, which can only be described as mentally weak. I hate using those words cuz it’s such a horrible label to attach to a player, but it seems accurate.
Maybe the Redsox and Braves were right. They both drafted him as a LHP
Rick Ankiel here we come in the oppo direction
It’s the “This isn’t our year and there’s nothing I can do about it” syndrome that seems to be spreading inside the clubhouse.
I think there’s a lot to that. Belt can “hang his head” sometimes, although I think all that Gumby Belt stuff is overstated. Also, I think everybody’s had a gut-punch with the way our season is going, and I wonder if the coaching staff is giving him the work and mentoring he needs.
I thought BB9 was a stat of some sort. Like, walks per 9 innings.
Stupid Slappy Coors. Pop Flies go out and Doinks don’t roll very far
Either Hill underestimated the runner, or he’s really slow getting to the ball.
Both
Hill playing like he is 55
Timmee was never that bad.
I dont care how good Blackman is. That beard has to go.
Hell he could “go” right to 3rd and King
We’d take him in a New York minute, beard and all. Let’s hope his arbitration with CO doesn’t work out.
Then again, we could put together the all homeless team. May be heavy on outfielders.
I dunno. I think he looks like a western miner.
Chuck Nasty branded. Can’t cut it off now.
But then the family of birds nesting in his beard will have to find a new home.
Good shutdown inning for Blach. To me he is a keeper.
He’s pitches like he’s an Ace. Which by all rights he is the ace of the staff currently. When Bum gets back, he’ll be the co ace. Bum just gets the ace because he’s Bum, but Blach gets the co ace, kind of like when you get to be co pilot. The pilot is still the pilot, but he operates with a co pilot.
He has some large Plums like Kirk Woody Rueter had when he pitched for San Fran Cisco
Definitely a must. Tentative and without plums don’t cut it.
Very reminiscent of Woody, but with a little better stuff. The boy can also hit a little bit.
Blach has smaller ears however
Down at their Complex in ARZ Julio Franco was seen spanking balls all over the complex.
Sabey Sabes was seen in full-on Bobby Valentine disguise talking to the 58 yr old slugger after the hitting session.
The the guy in the Valentine disguise picked up a fungo and hit Mr. Franco about 25 ground balls at first base.
Belt may have to revisit the former Fresno Grizzlie Bus until he “finds himself”
DJ should start the all star game and play ALL nine innings. Theo still pissed the GM right before him – traded him.
Cubbies are trying to run the table again.
Imagine the Cubs with DJ as their starting 2bman and let Addison and Baez battle it out for SS
Never GOOD to walk the lead off hitter. Need some Pitchers Best Friend right here….
First mistake of the ballgame right there. Walking the leadoff hitter before Arenado..
Please, one more “pop to Brandon”.
If Blach is ever going to hit a HR, now would be the opportune time.
Maybe next time.
Great shut down job, Ty Blach. Really cool it’s on his hometown and his parents are watching.
Come on, Giants. Let’s not get swept. This kid is doing work. Get him a W!
Yeah, I knew that was too much to ask.
I looked– including today Arenado is hitting 354 versus thd Giants this season. Hitting 289 versus the rest of the league. It seems likd way more against us. To put that .354 against us in perspective and demonstrating how good Posey has been this year, Posey is hitting .356 for the year versus sll comers.
0.354 against us seems low, but then he’s 3 for 3 today so it feels especially bad.
Very nice insight into Buster’s BA.
How about RBI and SLG%, when they play vs one another, not even close .
Yes, I know that, but Buster doubled for us today, and is getting a few more RBI, and his average has been nice all year.
Arenado does always feel like league MVP when we go against the Rox.
He could have been MVP the last 2 years vs the league, lead in HRs and RBI in 2015 and 2016 .
Coming into today Posey OPS 978 Arenado 891. Next question
Talking about vs one another, so when Rockies play Giants only, and how many RBI in those games only, got it now, is that slow enough for you to understand .
My point was (1) Arenado numbers against the rest of the league are good but not the monster numbers he puts up against us for some reason and (2) that hidden in the Giants poor play Posey is having a great season.
Any arguments with either of these?
Arenado does not walk much , a free swinger, so his OB% not so good compared to Posey, for some reason the Giants give him way to many strikes to hit, and Posey as a catcher should know this and call for pitches in the dirt, but does not .
Actually Posey with 28 walks. Arenado with 22. Not much difference. The main difference in OBP is the fact that Arenado is hitting 70 points lower than posey against the rest of the league, not walks. Any more alternative facts?
At bats Posey 209, Arenado 280 before this game, so Walk % a lot higher for Posey, I am not into singles, they do not score runs, this game every run driven in with extra base hit .
Extra base hits = runs, Arenado = over 40, Posey = just over 20 ..
But I thought Posey was a great game caller and the reason the pitchers are so good. Yet Posey can not figure out how to get a .280 hitter out?He sucks
Dude just wears us out. Always has.
I ćould use another BCraw homerun.
Coors Is A Joke
I still say the ONLY time Coors played fairly is back in the day when Timmy said (when given another ball by the umpire) “get this raggety shit out of here) + Sabean called out Skipper Jim Tracy + Marty Lurie called for a Humidor.
DOME the Mudder-Phooker or during the 6th inning on Sundays mandate that the opposing pitcher (Blach) should be in his own dugout.
Here we go again
Shouldn’t Righetti or Posey give him a breather?
That’s a damn shame. His PC is pretty high now and I think it’s fair to say he’s out of gas.
Bruce doing Bruce things, always try to get 1 to many innings out of the starting Pitcher, rather than 1 to few innings, Jake Peavy anybody .
Not a BS when the starting pitcher gives up the lead.
Werent you among the chorus of those criticizing Bochy for removing Moore after 8 in Game 4 of last years NLDS?
As Emerson said” foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds. ”
You need to be careful with our Rainman. Hobgoblin may be a bit too much.
Mr. Grammar himself .
You’re putting up good numbers today.
One of these days, Peter, I’ll get you to use the word “too” correctly.
I changed it wrong, but thanks for the Grammar police comment, I will file it where the sun does not shine !
So, militant ignorance is your defense. Doesn’t work.
Peter being Peter.
I liked the militant ignorance part though.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
And here I thought I was watching an instant replay. Giants have now given up 28 runs or my prediction of 7 runs a game….
At least no inherited runners for Kontos to let in. He’s on his own
Now is the time for all the big dollars guys to put up. Don’t leave Colorado 0-4. Have some pride.
Belt = BABIP
FIRE BOCHY!! WORST OFFENSE! WORST OUTFIELD! WORST TEAM IN BASEBALL!!!
LoL. Shoot the piano player while you’re at it.
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/f42166eb31622eb51c77016680d84ae9a585a1558a75881560b22469edb44af1.jpg
Didnt realize he was hitting.
WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR TODAY’S LINE UP ?
Span — GARBAGE – 4th outfielder at best.
Panik 2B – OFF AND ON
Crawford SS – SOLID BUT NOT HAVING A GREAT YEAR AT THE PLATE
Posey C – GOOD HITTER BUT NOT A NUMBER 4
Belt 1B – TRADE .
Slater LF – UNPROVEN
Hill 3B – WILL NEVER PLAY BASEBALL AGAIN AFTER GIANTS
Hernandez RF – AWFUL AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN GONE A YEAR AGO.
Blach P
The alternatives? Pence? Tomlinson? Hundley. Regular murderers row
The manager is partly responsible for putting the team together. This team is about to get swept by the Rockies. This team will probably lose 100 games. You know what their record is since the All Star Break last year?
FIRE SALE!!!!
Fire sale requires buyers
Everyone on this team except Crawford, Posey and Bum should be on the block!!
Evans for 40.
He should have been FIRED ALREADY. TOTAL CLEAN HOUSE.
Rant. It won’t help, IMO. But crank it up.
Have a White Hurricane or Red Martini. Toss all those do nothing TV’s in the water.
I’m watching pool side with a Mimosa. It’s hot today.
Hire Joe Altobelli
Blach stood out on the bump for god bless America for way too long. Blach’s gotta know to stay in the dugout in the shade.
10-12-14
Any good movies this summer?
Wonder Woman was great. I really like the Blackcoats Daughter on Amazon Prime. Fargo television show is spectacular.
When a Thrown Ball Hits Backswing
http://www.closecallsports.com/2017/06/case-play-2017-6-thrown-ball-hits.html
I do really like the Rockies Father’s Day uniforms. They should keep them.
Ghorkys’ has really screwed up TO’s scouting report during this series. Shameful on GH.
He’s playing for his life. He knows he won’t probably play baseball again once the Giants get rid of him.
Ghorkys has a life time contract waiting for him by Diablos Rojos del Mexico …
BARTENDER !!!!!!!!!
PENCE!
How about THAT?!
That’s what’s up!
Yes
!!!!!!
See what happens when I rant!!! You can all thank me.
Bochys genius still has some shine left. Atta babe Hunter.
Bochy is an idiot for pinch hitting Pence. Whoops
Giants won the pennant, that reaction made it look like it .
Wow – take your kids white water river rafting PJ or tonight Rub One Out.
Peter doesn’t get slappy. But he likes pull hitters so maybe he can.
I must of missed the mobbing at the plate.
M E L A N C O N
The Maytag Man comes in to blow the save?
So, it’s your fault?
Keep fooling them Pence. We need for trade chips!!
No trade clause, Wife loves San Francisco, good luck with that .
Good old Peter. Ruining Father’s Day for me.
There isn’t a parade in existence PJ can’t rain on.
LEXI BABY
It’s 6 months of the year ferchrissakes. And with travel, they are on the road half that time. BFD.
He is happy here,, and has 2 rings, not chasing Money are rings .
His age and c$ntract are the obstacles.
Nobody would want the contract , but the Giants could eat most of it, and it would be up to him , not the team .
Atta boy Joe, that should buy Melancon some time to get warmed up
CRAWLS
Next they’ll score too many runs for Mel to get a save
Boy, was that an absurd expectation. If only.
For some reason all the rain and gray skies up here in the PNW just seemed to quit bothering me. Interesting.
Maybe, just maybe, Pence is back to his old self. He hit so many clutch bombs in 2012 that we got too used to it.
If Melancon blows this save he will (and should be) walking to the airport
You mean walking to the bus station. Make him ride the bus to Atlanta with plenty of stew time.
Here’s a question for all.
WHO IS YOUR MOST HATED GIANT EVER?
Mine is Beltran … No doubt.
Cody Ransom
Sidney Ponson.
The last time Melancon recorded a save was on May 27th. Damn we’ve been THAT bad?
He DID have another save opportunity on June 8th, which he blew. But it’s tough to get in a groove with such limited opportunities
He has
All 8 runs driven in by extra base hit, maybe Kelby is not that valuable after all .
Attababe, Hunter Pence! You too, BCraw. Lock down this W, Melancon.
I wouldn’t trade Blach either. The only people I’m keeping. Posey, Bum, Craw, Blach. Everyone else … up for sale if the price is right.
Gotta keep Panik and Slater.
Not if they get a kings ransom for them.
Like that will happen
Like anyone is buying
You trying to tell me no one wants Panik, Melochon, Cueto, Pence, Nunez, Strickland down the stretch? You are stoned and I want what your smoking.
If they are that desirable why are we selling them?
Let’s wait till the trade deadline and have this conversation again.
If the Yankees can fleece people with their garbage old guys. We can do the same. But is Evans smart enough? I don’t think he is.
Or are other teams dumb enough to take our recasts
Throw Tapia only sliders. I recall a couple of ABs earlier this season where he looked really bad on them, lunging like he was Pedro Feliz.
Where was Holland today?
Bud Black was probably giving him another day of rest since it was just the 7-8-9 hitters coming up for the Giants
Between France, Belgium, and Germany
Day off I guess, coming off TJ surgery, used a lot this series .
Just bury one to Posey
Please don’t let it get to Arenado
I have zero confidence in Melancon
Dont ever shake off Posey
Span no range, did not even try .
How does that fall in? Blackmon catches that, Span should as well. Damn.
Span is a terrible, terrible center fielder.
No doubles D defending a 2 run lead. You do not risk the dive and the ball rolling to the wall. That was not on Span
Yes it was, 2Hole. You break on the ball as soon as it’s in front of you. DIVE for the catch. It’s shallow and you have at least one OF behind you.
I’m certain Blackmon catches that.
Melancon’s stock is plummeting!! Maybe cause he hasn’t tried to save a game since June 8th. Just an awful team!!
This is the worst outfield in Giants history for sure!!!
Span has no range.
They were playing a deep no doubles defense. That ball gets by span and Blackmon is on third with 1 out
I thought was a DP when he hit it. Weak grounder that finds a hole.
Melancon is a joke. 16 per year
Only 7 this year, that is why not tradable, and that too, he sucks .
I thought it was good signing at first. Oh, how I was wrong. He should give the Giants back the money
Melancon is the worst.
I said that before the Arenado home run
Evans should be FIRED right after this game for signing this slop!!
F……
What a f surprise
I mean, are we surprised?
They can’t get out of Colo-freaking-rado fast enough.
Arenado was looking for that inside fastball and Melancon delivered it right to his sweetspot
They pitch to strength A LOT
That hurts. That really fucking hurts.
Why pitch to him… Time to release some veterans and bring up the kids
EVERYONE SHOULD BE FIRED!!! EVERYONE!!!
FIRE BOCHY!!
FIRE EVANS!!
FIRE!!!!!
Rockies have a very good ballclub.
Melancon has been almost as bad of a signing for a high priced closer as possible.
#FirstPick
I hope so.
10 saves and 4 blown
Lets not forget his loss too
Melancon makes Casilla look good
No — great
Makes Kontos look great
Well, it’s a110 degrees here in Davis.
only 113 here.
You wimp its 102 here
Worst signing in ths history of baseball.
Aaron Rowand has lost his crown??
Span 2nd worst. His dogging changed the inning
Blame it on the black guy huh Matthew just kidding what did he do
No there is truth to that from all the southern white boys. Those dang people are just lazy.
Laugh my black ass off
Damnit I thought you had an answer for me buddy
Routine fly ball… bad read, let it drop with no real effort. Dude is horrendous
Sorry to hear
He’s no Bob Horner out there
His ABs today and yesterday were stellar as well.
The PH yesterday – 2 FBs down the middle, wave at an outside pitch, grab some pine. Absolutely pitiful.
Who did Matthew blame it on- Span or Obama ?
Some guy named Barack Span
Hay-zoos, that’s what I thought too. Blackmun hit a lazy flyball to CF, and it drops in?!?
That ball should have been caught! Span is too afraid of injury to charge and dive forward a la Blanco in 2012 WS.
Hey, TF! Bet tix in Atlanta are pretty affordable today!!
Rowand
Rowand hands down.
Rowand had a key hit in the 2010 WS
And he won a WS. I’ll give that to you. I agree with you.
I found a great picture of Bochy on the internet. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/f1fcdedbf769385e4c1e0ba89d79930855fc41c63c63adc725e07f36dd20d387.jpg
That sucks…./
Oblivious to the impending disaster eh…
It’s predicable that you dunderheads would put this on the manager.
I put it squarely on the team. Bad pitching, bad relief pitching terrible hitting and lack of run support. The only guys that are not at fault is Posey and Nunez. All others from Bumbgarner to Cuet to Cain are to fault as well
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/bfa726a325c9ebaae3184272a68e9680219bea39f9c800babdddc1ea6b0da55c.jpg
Melancon’s ERA is now over 5
It’s a club.
It’s these kind of blown saves that have energized the demise of this club.
Posey needs to establish a better plan with Melancon though. Just trying to jam every batter inside with fastballs and changeups isn’t going to work. Need to utilize his other pitches more.
And Bochy needs to pitch Melancon in non-save situations more to get him into a groove. Pitching for the first time in 10 days in Coors to protect a 2-run lead is a tough task for any pitcher. I don’t care who it is.
Not excusing Melancon from the BS, but the pitch-calling is too predictable and he simply needs to pitch more.
The first guy that got on hit went down and got a very good curve
He’s clearly shaking off some rust. Hasn’t had any in-game action this season.
He blew his very first SVO this year. No excuses.Oh, that’s right- he was rusty after the long winter.,
He didn’t get to pitch to Posey much in ST because of WBC, or did he at all?
I don’t recall.
I think that he still hasn’t established a comfort level with Posey. I’m sure someone can bring up the stats, but it seems like he pitches much better with Hundley catching.
Posey’s fault. Bochy too!
Exactly.
Not only that … His stuff is crap
Enjoy the rest of season without me, I’m done. Paying attention to these guys doesn’t improve my life. I will crunch numbers soon. Happy Father’s Day.
Adios, Hombre. See you next year.
Talk to you tomorrow!
Lololol thats hilarious
I have been a Giants fan for nearly 60 years and pay attention to every game the best I can and have for all that time,
Even now, if I am not apparent at TWG every day I am still reading or have computer access problems.
Granted I still haven’t recovered from the greatest baseball team ever finishing 2nd 5 years in a row and Juan Marichal never getting a Cy Young.
Our main goal now should be in tanking the season hard and getting a number #1 pick. Don’t even bring Bumgarner back and trade Belt … move Posey to first for the rest of the year.
And then waive him. Then move him to third. Keep him guessing!!
No reason at all for Bum to pitch. He’ll be that much stronger next year
And call themselves the San Francisco 76ers?
If you wanna tank play the regulars and dont bring up the AAA guys
Did anyone who has been tracking the Gs this yr really think they were going to win?
Remember Rusty the Mechanical Man? This year we have Rusty the Melancon Man
The Giants need to fire Evans. Cause he built this team. They need to bring in someone who knows what they are doing. Dodgers, Snakes and Rockies are all going to get better.
I am not in favor of the Giants making any major moves until Evans and Bochy and probably Sabean are gone.
We might need a huge revival. I hope we don’t turn into the Phillies which is looking very likely.
Keep Sabes to hire replacements. Gotta have some continuity.
Makes sense.
Melancon has now become untradeable
That’s the rough part. We may be stuck with him. Maybe we should have him come in the 8th and move someone else to close.
Package him and Cueto for a fungo?
What bothers me is that the Dodgers continue to get better year after year. They continue to draft well and make the changes that need to be done. They haven’t gotten over that hump yet but they are the class of the NLW right now and are schooling the Giants.
The Dodgers do and always will suck !
From opening day when Melancon blew a save he has been horrible. Just eat his contract
Try to move him but he should be demoted. It’s just not working out for him here.
I know it sucks but we should all want this team to lose and get the number 1 draft pick. This team needs to restock.
I smell a Melancon trip to the “DL”
Absolute worst thing to do. They need to iron out his issues by putting him in non-save situations.
Agree, but Bochy does things by the book and to the letter when it comes to closers, so nothing will likely change. He’ll never live down the Casilla/Lamb fiasco(s).
That’s on Bochy? Absurd.
Having Casilla face Lamb? Absolutely on Bochy.
https://sports.yahoo.com/news/giants-manager-bruce-bochy-irks-130943180.html
Again, what does have to do with today? Nothing.Get out of the sun and rehydrate..
What the f**k does have to do with today?
The point was that Bochy does things by the book when it comes to closers and will likely do the same for Melancon. That’s it. I was just replying to Hoona’s comment. Not sure what you’re arguing. Enjoy the rest of the day.
You replied to MY comment.
I enjoy everyday ,pal. Maybe you will be so lucky.
Or a pink slip.
Just saw that HR gave Arenado the cycle. Of course it did.
At this point it’s kinda hard to say this one is a real gut punch, but it still didn’t feel great.
Of all the things to go wrong this year, I didn’t think Melancon would be one of them.
Closers are always iffy and never worth a premium. If they were really good they’d be starters.
Remember opening day when he blew the save in Arizona? Little did we know that that would be the beginning of the end for this year and the continuation from last year.
Ayup.
Before the start of the season, I traded Kimbrel away for Melancon on my fantasy team. 🙃🔫
Welcome to year one. Only 3 more to go.
No way that happens. The players wont stand for it, and neither will the fans. If he had any pride whatsoever he’d give back the money
Now you’re really making sense.
I agree, Just wanted to depress everybody even more.
A guy trying to pitch through an injury should give his money back? What he’s doing may not be smart, but it’s much more admirable than if he said “I got my money. My arm hurts. It’s a bad season anyway, so I’m going to take a seat.”
Guaranteed salaries are ridiculous, but that’s not even on anyone’s negotiating list
What injury ?
He’s already spent time on the DL for arm trouble. Baggarly said today that he’s still battling the same thing.
The players are standing for THIS
World’s biggest horse laughs are from Santiago Casilla and Angel Pagan
Why. They’re still losers.
Pagan is loads better than anyone we’ve had playing left fiefd this year. and Malancon makes Casilla look like Mariano Rivera
You’re not remembering 2016 Cadillac very well.
Neck and neck this year.
and Romo
Ruh-roh, sounds like even Marty is losing it
Wow. That’s when you know things are so bad even the most Pollyanna of the bunch are losing it.
Lolololololol
Baggarly had pieces today before and after the game that explicitly say Melancon’s trying to pitch through a sore arm. He’s now blown his last two save opportunities and four of 14 for the year.
This is insane. Insane. The Giants are buried and only rarely need a closer. They signed Melancon for four years, and now it’s time to see if you can salvage the last three of those. He needs to go on the DL and stay there as long as it takes. Bring up some guys from the minors and take a look for future bullpens.
There is absolutely nothing to lose for this year, but pushing Melancon could hurt them in future years.
Now would be a good time to bring up Crick. RiverCats and the Giants are both going nowhere.
His DL stint was for a sore flexor, ne? Which is the precusor to a TJ, right??
The guy was a machine for 6 years, and then Evans signs him for 4 more years. Bobby strikes again.
Sabean makes all the big decisions.
Pretty crazy.
If true, it’s ridiculous and shame on the coaching staff
Yes, they need to shut him down. Well, at least the silver lining from his gut punches this year is they’ll help the team more than hurt the team as he pushes them closer to a top 2-3 pick.
Crick has made great strides this year, specifically the BBs are down and assume command is much better (not having seen Crick pay except several clips)
I’ve seen him several times. He looks great. Electric stuff and very confident.
No better time than the present.
Crick is on the 40 player roster.
Disable Melancon. With the investment in Melancon it is insane to play him in meaningless games if he is nursing a sore arm.
Exactly. I think he should go on the DL until the ASB. Bring up Crick and go bullpen by committee. Furthermore regarding the bullpen, DFA one of the mediocre retread righties and give Okert some work.
Brutal loss today. Worst gut-punch of the year.
He has looked uncomfortable since Day One.I think that he loses 20 pounds of sweat per inning.
I was noticing that, today. He was 2-3 hitters in and both forearms were shiny with sweat.
Which is more likely: Melancon finishing his contract as a Giant or Trump finishing his term as President? The betting starts now.
Melancon
Since I now believe that the chances of Melancon being a Giant at the end of his contract are exactly zero, I’ll bet on Trump
He is not tradable,, he is owed 55 Million for 3 years after this year .
I understand that– just eat the money. Besides if Dyson was tradeable so is Melancon
No way, Giants do not do that, , last time they a quarter of that, a Giants President lost his job .
You don’t believe that he’s injured?
The O/U on the Donald is now Labor Day 2017.
Yeah. Take the over.
I’ll put you down for Halloween 2017.
It may be a pleasant dream for you, but it’s only a dream.
Why aren’t you all over this? His personal lawyer has a lawyer and that one will be getting one and , well you get the drift.
He nvr pitches i only blame him for part of this
In Baggs’s pregame piece, it said that Melancon can opt out after 2018.
Great, another player option
Like he would opt out– we should be that lucky
Well this day has been juuuust peachy. Now my power has gone out and it’s 107 outside. FML.
That was here yesterday no power
It’s 111 in Tempe where I am. Pretty darned warm!
Go to the mall
I wish I was a mall rat but I’ll probably be out in that sh*t walking to the bank and Whole Foods though it’s a short stroll. Honestly, once it’s above 110 I don’t notice any differences.
Wow, 111. I saw on the news that on Tues. in Phoenix it will be 121 !
They’ve scaled that back to a temperate 119 in the absolute latest forecast. It will be Tuesday. I will go out only under duress.
Raise your hand if you weren’t psyched to get Melancon.
Larry Krueger, good reason, most great closers are strikeout pitchers, Melancon is not, so more likely to give up hits in tight games .
Hey he got one out. Whaddya want?
I expected to get a high-control pitch-to-contact reliever which is an unusual category. Personally, I like him as a set-up man more than a closer.
Pretty expensive for a set up man. Then again, we do have Dyson.
I was disappointed in the cost and also favored 3 or 4 other free agent closers.
The SFG in part backed themselves into a corner with Castilla (and Romo) when each were past prime but still had some good innings in their future.
Phillies lost in 10. Those guys are a juggernaut, but I refuse to give up hope.
We got this. I am NOT worried
Right there with you.
At the rate they’re going, the Giants could be 20 back by the ASB.
You have to give it to mngmt them some patient mtfkrs!
They’ll be patient for years once they realize how little they have to work with.
I heard Bobby Evans interviewed on KNBR about 10 days ago. The interviewer (Tolbert?… can’t remember) said, “So you have to decide who to trade away by July 1, right?” Evans replied, “Oh no, not that early, more like July 20.”
The Baer interview was even worse .
Some Rockies fan I know was concerned that Arenado was hit “on the eyebrow” with Blackmon’s helmet. Oh no, not his eyebrow!! There goes the whole season!
Hey, Chris Brown once slept on his eye wrong. Eyes can be tricky.
Bochy had no choice in bringing Malancon to close the game. It’s a no brainer. No clubs GM would have it any other way. You purchase a closer with big dollars and he closes games. Totally on Malancon to stay sharp. Whatever it takes. And if he’s not 85%, he needs to be up front with the trainer, Rags and Bochy. I like Malancon as a person. He’s a decent guy. But he’s soft for a closer. He’s got good stuff for a closer, but mentally you got to be a nasty SOB. Is he mentally a nasty SOB? First game of the season may have set him back, maybe his comfort level isn’t here yet, I don’t know. But this seasons shit roll has been a team effort. Top to bottom. Unfortunately for the closer, the spot light shines bright on him.
We would have all been screaming blue murder if Bochy had brought in anyone but Melancon. Bochy did the right thing.
The real issue is that if Melancon’s not healthy, someone needs to be the grownup and decide he’s shutting it down for awhile. I guess that starts with Melancon himself. Alex’s postgame article says that Melancon insists he’s fine but others in the organization don’t think he is, and Bochy stays away from using him in non-save situations or in back-to-back games. I don’t think you can make a player go on the DL if he says he’s not injured, so maybe Melancon needs to take some responsibility here. I agree with TO that he’s to be credited, with his big salary, for trying to pitch through discomfort, but big picture, he’s not helping the team.
Gregor came through again.
That makes me happy.
He’s been a Godsend for them since Pollock went down.
Wish he were here.
Amen. But here comes Pollock
They will have plenty for him to do when Pollock is back.
He wasn’t wanted here- even when I pointed out that he played injured after April. You folks wanted Gorkys. Blanco’s line – .280 BA, .374 OBP, .782 OPS, 6 SB.
I would have never let Gregor go. I even wanted the Giants to grab him when the Snakes dfa’d him earlier this year before he signed a minor league contract.
Ser Gregor is the man! Go Dbacks. They have a studly lineup. Here’s to my guy Drury as well.
OK- Let’s talk corn.
The history of the ‘juiced’ ball. The story of how a wool shortage and Australia ended the dead ball era along with the change in the baseball in 2015.
https://theringer.com/2017-mlb-home-run-spike-juiced-ball-testing-reveal-155cd21108bc
I relish in these games because I knew Melancon was the worst of the big relievers out there. Never had the arm of guys like Jansen and Chapman, he’s one of those guys with decent stats but real baseball people would never have him on a top 10 list.
But man how many here defended the signing to no end, specially since Melancon “looked the part”.
This signing alone should be the end of Evans reign.
Saw the A’s beat the Yankees, that team is completely different than the last A’s team I followed a couple of years ago but they play hard. The AL east is beast, Toronto is slowly getting back into it. Every team may be close till the final month of the season. Would not be surprised if Cueto is in the AL East by the end of the season.
This team is not sniffing 500 ball this season, give that dream up. They will be 30 games in the loss column by the end of the month. Do the math in your head and tell me how they end up with 500 ball.
LOL
I love an Efrain with relish.
I don’t love anything about a racist.
oh geesh we are back on that?
What did you mean by “look the part?” And what someone said earlier about Belt made me think. Have you ever criticized a player who wasn’t white?
Of course, over the years I’ve criticized Pablo, Casilla, Adrianza, anyone not pulling their weight.
Pablo always pulled his weight, to much of it .
I like Hope Sandoval more than Pablo.
I love Hope Sandoval.
Then what did you mean by “looked the part?”
Deplorables
and extra sauce
You mean real baseball people like you, and not the people who run the Giants and Nationals? I don’t think anyone thought Melancon was the equal of someone like Jansen, but he had a track record of success that was clear. No player’s continued health is guaranteed.
So watching him over the last few years told you he had the hit and miss stuff required?
Of course he didn’t, if anything he was losing speed off his pitches, which was widely known and written about during the FA period.
Not of that was a recipe for success at that money for that many years.
But hey the aholes that run this team also threw away money and roster spots on guys like Lincecum, Peavy and Cain over the past few season knowing damn well they were never going to produce in the long term.
Must’ve been because he “looked the part,” right?
well he does look like a jarhead.
I’ll admit ti drinking the flavorade on Melancon. I bought the hype. But just like ths players snd the fans list cobfidence in Casilla which made the situation worse, the fans. nf probably the players — with justification have list confidence in Ndlanvon and expect him to come in to blow the save.
I fear that his contract is a sunken cost and we’ll never get out from under it.
I know Jansen is a stud, but has Chapman been up to this year?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLLCdfVcPHs
This one ranks right up there, but cast your vote for ths worst loss of the season
Opening Day, Mel buzz-killing Bum’s heroics, after Bum buzz-killed himself! I don’t think Mel has been healthy all season. 🙁
Good answer– set the course for the season though we didnt kniw it at the time. But there are so many other gut punching losses to choise from
There are indeed, but they’re all blending together in my mind as one hot, ugly mess! 🙁
Tonight’s “Be Honest” question :
Be honest, when Tapia got his hit, did you not think ” we’re gonna lose this game”?
I know it’s a non-fan thing to think, but I mentally built out the crash and burn, and basically nailed it. I didn’t expect the Span nap on the fly ball…that sealed it…
I tjought we lose as soon as Melacon entered the game, and if you look back I posted it, I had hope after the first out but knew it was lost after the Tapia hit
Wow, what’d I miss? Looks like Melancon is here to stay. What a nightmare for him, rarely getting save ops. Looks like Denard did his job today, as did Blach, Gorkys gains on Belt.
Denard got no jump whatsoever on a routine fly ball that Blackmon would have caught between his knees while doing a handstand…it opened the floodgates. Span is an unmitigated disaster in the field.
( an example as to why certain folks who rely just on stats miss so much about who plays the game well….)
Here’s to unmitigated disasters. May enough of us survive.
I still love my cute Cousin and his dedication to spicing in tidbits! Together We’re Survivors, Foots
He used to play the game well. But time catches up…
If you get a chance, check out his first inning base running , too. This guy is done. He has some flashes, but this series…..wait, every series…shows the dramatic difference between their center fielder and ours.
No hope in sight. More pt in 18 for span and Pence.
New Post: http://fe0.84e.myftpupload.com/2017-season/giants-trash-your-fathers-day-and-mine-get-trampled-on-by-the-colorado-arenadoes-7-5/
I was on the Melancon bandwagon and I’m not jumping ship like a rat off a sinking ship. Let’s see what he does in 2018. Nothing could have saved this season. If he stinks next year, then I’ll jump off.
If he really isn’t 100%. It’s hard to be mad about it.
I just looked again at the Blackmon bloop single to CF (two batters prior to Arenado HR). Should have been caught. Span got a slow break and took a parallel route to the ball instead of charging in. It would have been a great play, but it should have been caught.
I said last night Blackmon would have caught it. After another look, Gorkys would have caught it! It’s bad enough that our leadoff hitter is permanently stuck in the .250-.260 range, and that for a “speed guy” he has two SB, and *maybe* five bunt singles all year. Factor in his far below average CF play…just another piece to our 2017 SF Giants.
