Greek Giant
Today’s game: Rockies (47-33 ) Vs Giants (29-51) at Willie Mays Field, 12:45 PM
Kyle Freeland (8-5, 3.70) Vs Ty Blach (4-5, 4.86)
The Giants have an opportunity for their first sweep of the season on a beautiful San Francisco afternoon. A win would close out the official first half of the season in an impressive way and perhaps give the Gmen some momentum for the rest of the year. It would certainly go along way to make baseball fun for us all.
Five Questions (Courtesy of SGBSSFG)
- Will the pinch running pitcher go long into the game today?
- Will the Giants be able to hold on to the energy of last night’s win to come through today?
- Will the team that lost but got to crash in the quiet of their hotel have the advantage?
- What is left In the bullpens?
- Will Brandon Belt ever get to pitch?
Hello in there.
That’s what he said?
1. No 2. Maybe for another game or two 3. Yes 4. No one that’s rested 5. No..
Flan’s pick to deliver: Jae-Gyun Hwang. Love it
1 if he wears his pant legs down. Was not a bad look for him.
2 triple A lineup? You bet.
3 depends what they are for breakfast.
4 all good to go.
5 no. Please.
1. 5 innings 4 R
2. Yes
3. One would think perhaps but the Giants are ascendant and the Rockies in a cooled off streak.
4. Crick and Slania
5. NO!
I dug this Comment Gold by El Greco….
“DSpan is having a very good season and hurray for him. I was always a
fan, even when he played for the Nationals. Yes, he has lost a step. No,
he is not the same dynamic player he was five years ago. No, it was not
a good contract in the grand scheme of things but you know what I get
out of watching Denard Span play every day? I see a player who is a
gamer. He plays hard, with passion and with a sense of purpose and pride
that has a strong effect on his teammates.”
As far as the contract, they needed a CF. Pagan and Blanco had dreadful years in CF the year before. This is similar to how the Giants really needed a closer and therefore Mark Melancon.
Glad hank gave some explanation. I was like “why Slania”?
https://twitter.com/hankschulman/status/880135586022957057
If you’re on the 40-man, you’re next man up. How many pitchers have we used this year? 13 LF, eight 3B…story of our year.
The homeless problem in San Francisco is really bad.
Oh wait… that’s Blackmon.
The Jinx of GG/TWG (Sweep) – even Arenado can drive in two on a poorly located change up.
Blach has had the league share much info on him. He will have to readjust now to the league.
It did seem like Arenado had a good idea of location on that pitch. Runner at second had to be tipping.
BOOM. Great comment – R2 was very into Arenado’s at bat.
Atta boy – “Get us in to hit right here”
Blach’s not happy with himself – that is clear.
Maybe Melancon’s on the DL – to formulate a trade because I don’t think you can trade anybody when they are on the DL.
Two former Notre Dame Touchdown Jesus players in the same dugout soon (Slania and the Shark) SWEET
Melancon certainly not been a feel good story. With his latest DL stint he has now made himself untradeable. So we are stuck with the third most expensive closer in baseball on a team that hasnt needed much closing and when they do he has not been reliable
When the Giants are good again next season, Smith and Dyson and Melancon and Law(?) will seem like a solid bullpen. I’m happy with the DL news, as it means the Giants can make sure Melancon gets right again.
My thoughts as well. Melancon may need surgery, but probably just rest and rehab. 2018, Smith for sure and maybe Dyson? Yes, that could work.
It’s a funny thing. Sometimes when the Giants field an embarrassing lineup, especially on getaway days, they play refreshingly good baseball and win. I hope today is one of those games.
Lotta hungry guys in that lineup, they surely will try hard.
Let’s go Hwang!! Feeling a three run shot coming this inning!
I like the thought.
But have the Giants had a 3-run HR this season? I know this hadn’t occurred, say up to June 1, but have we actually managed to get one of those?
Didn’t Crawford get one recently?
Yes, that kind of rings a bell. Perhaps it is the only one, though. What a year 2017 is proving to be.
Slater also had one in Atlanta
Slater, in Atlanta.
Wonder if he will eventually have as much thump as Jung-ho Kang
So long as he’s nicer, that’s all that matters.
Pass port issues ?
yes, because all Korean players have to be mirror images of each other right?
Stop being racist Effie
Gorked!
Gorkys is channeling the Oracle
Belt is feeling Gorkys’ heat.
He’s making statements about his superior attitude and analytical skills to his teammates?
WoW – the balls are jumping off the bat….
Prediction: Ryder and Hwang both get their first MLB knocks today.
BB9 probably hits one out to lead off the inning. Another solo shot, but cut the lead in half?
Or not…
Curious about whats going on with Strength & Conditioning. Guys look different this year. It looks like less emphasis on upper body and more on core. Belt’s ass sure has tightened up.
Since obviously studied the issue, who do you think has the tightest ass on the team?
You always did lean that way ….
I think Blach, you?
I’d say he’s probably on the opposite end of the spectrum, but Surf Maui is the Blach expert.
Blach??? You like big butts and you cannot lie
I do like mine nice and plump. No homo
Visual comment or has his sphincter started gripping due to Hwang also being able to play first base?
So Peachy hijacked Bob’s login?
Sharing log in info
Since none of your replies are worth replying to, remember a couple years ago when Pence was busting out of his jersey? Buster used to be much bigger too. Now guys have skinnied down and I’m guessing the S&C coach is working knees to armpits. I like the concept but not the results on the field so far. Fewer injuries?
I’m an old bicycle racer. Pretty easy to see who’s been training by checking out their ass. You guys have a whiff of homophobia, not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Nah, you tee’d it up, us kids could not resist.
My sister is obsessed with Belt’s lips.
I much prefer the athletic ass of Kristen Press. Go look her up.
Paula Creamer. Pleasanton pride.
Blach needs to trust the defense and make them put it in play. Just throw strikes kiddo
Amy G looks tired.
Long night last night – drive home to Petaluma and back again.
If the Giants had to face Nolan Arenado by himself, they’d still have a losing record.
Where did you pull that one from ?
40 pitches in the second. Yimrs
Bad game for Blach to struggle.
Slania to be the long man today?
Was thinking the same. But has he arrived at the ball park yet? I read something that he is experiencing a flight delay and he is coming from NY.
Still up in the skies
On the airplane
Blach minus the velo is reminding me of Dan Runzler’s ability to look like $$$$$$ one day and $ the next outing.
It’s tough unless your Reuter to have “meh” stuff as a lefty starter. I like Blach’s grit, but he’s hittable.
Just save Blach to pitch against the Dodgers, all 18 games a season.
He’s fine in the windup. No bueno in the stretch.
Lot of firewood with Blackmon’s bat right there.
Looks like the bloom is off the Blach rose unfortunstely
#mouthful
Not so fast, IMHO. I like this kid.
Nice ass.
Thanks– or werent you you referring to me?
IIRC, yours is like a skeleton wearing skin drapes
I didnt kniw that you cared
Man crush.
I strongly advise Surf Maui to get a 2nd opinion on this, from Just Peachy, our local expert.
Blach’s ass is a little too Kardashian for me.
Could be a mistake to get another opinion
Must be talking about the A’s new 2017 female roving grandstand reporter.
Lots of walk up traffic from the fans from Seoul – South Korea

Kelby Crawford
Good hitters taking bad swings and making weak contact. Keep it up.
I see GG predicts a sweep. I just saw the lineup, not so sure about that. Where’s the other half of the split squad, in Goodyear playing the Indians. Back to work, good luck with this one Gang.
Brooks Robinson says OMG
I have a huge baseball crush on Nolan Arenado
He’s an OK player
Still can’t figure out how you got your moniker…
Now I told you I got to hear Not Now John and I posted the lyrics to Lost for Words, which they also played, but I did not tell you played Coming Back to Life. They were hitting all the notes, man!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhV4me_k8Y8
Sweet!
I’m still torn between Arenado and Machado for who is the best defensive 3b. Overall, I take Arenado.
We see much more of Arenado, and it’s hard to believe anyone could be better. Machado is outstanding, but I’d go Arenado.
Gotta be Arenado. Maybe Beltre when he’s healthy. Machado right there.
May have to share
Arenado just made a platinum glove play look easy. What a third baseman!
Thats a play of the year for sure. I’ve never seen that. His shoulder blades were nearly on the dirt.
Slaters adjustments DURING his at bat = he’s a keeper.
He just knows how to hit. He’s a gem
Atta babe Slater.
RBI coming up for the New Dude!
Got his RBI and still looking for his first hit.
!!!!!!!!
HUNDO
Atta babe Nick.
Just tuned in to see the Hundley HR Woohoo!
Radio for me. Sweet sound
Whoohoona
The Uncle Randy All Stars!
Jones is due!
Time for his first MLB average.
Jones remains due!
I’m happy that Bochy got both Jones and Hwang into today’s game.
D’oh!
Someone explain how Ty Blach can make an error…and then get an unearned run when that runner scores. This is just a silly rule in a silly game.
I like this question. I’m sure the true answer is reaching on an error is not earning a run, from the offense’s viewpoint. But yeah, earnies are charged to the pitcher, and in this case, he does merit the blame.
I think something should be said about reaching on an error. I bet if we looked up leaders in ROE, it would be mostly guys considered good hitters.
To continue on ROE, it counts totally against a batter, which is so strange. Their batting average takes a hit, and their OBP takes a hit…BUT THEY ARE ON BASE! It makes no sense. At minimum it should be considered a “non-AB” like a sac fly.
I want a “Hello Gorkys” Day lunchbox.
Steven Duggar will DH for the SJ Giants tonight.
All the news that’s fit to print. Thanks.
Any word on Reynolds, Jebavy, & Garcia promotions? Any AA to AAA promotions?
Not that I’ve heard, but I agree–seems like time for that.
Reynolds for sure. Let’s see what happens. We need OFs!
And how. Don’t sleep on Ronnie Jebavy. I bet he can get after it better than Duggar in CF. You’d take a low OBP defensive stud in CF, right?
Ummm, maybe. How low OBP? I’m having a talk with myself re Span. I don’t want to dog him, but he’s hurting us out there on D.
If only we could have a rover.
I have a real good feeling about this kid. So glad he’ll get a couple of months play this season.
Slater catches fly balls like a ball player
Pence catches fly balls like a meth head pole vaulting into a dumpster.
vaulting over mouse turds
#RallyMouseTurds
lmao
Blach – as has been said before – has a lot of Kirk Reuter in him….!!!!
Shutdown inning. Nice. Exactly what we needed. Let’s add on here!
Some Tommy Milone too?
Hmmmm
Pick a Giants comp once, for posterity
Dave Dravecky? Atlee Hammaker?
Nice shutdown inning Blach.
Indeed, it is refreshing!
I’m so sick of this Southwest lady!!!
Has become, IMO, the most annoying commercial on TV now.
60 seconds of awful sounding side effects does it for me.
I want more of the Allstate Mayhem guy.
I miss his character in Brooklyn Nine Nine. It’s a show that’s hit or miss at times and I get why many people would be annoyed by the goofy slapstick element. But the Allstate Mayhem guy’s character in special appearances on that show is one of the funnier characters I’ve seen.
I liked that dude. I looked forward to what situation he’d be in next.
Way too much overkill with that add
The Jack in the Box ad with the lady screaming “We’ve got a craving!” is a close 2nd.
Now just hold the lead.
Woody could also HIT
I know there’s a lot of talk about being terrible for a draft pick. And I’m ok with the Giants having a poor season. But I do NOT want them to lose 100 games. It would be nice to see them go on a halfway decent run to avoid historic futility. If it costs the Giants a few drafts slots then oh well. This isn’t like the NFL, the MLB draft is much more of a crap shoot. There’s no Harper or Strasburg in next year’s draft as a slam dunk number 1 pick.
I’m with you. The Oracle is daft!
Dafty Dolt
The point is understandable when talking about 88 losses versus 84 losses and it costs a team three or four draft spots. In other words it can be more advantageous to be bad than overachieve and be mediocre. But losing 100+ games, especially for a team many thought would contend, would be historically embarrassing.
Just Draft Daft or a bit more?
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/e5c5ccad7f5c784a5bd186b13fff614c26db7caa6fda11caabd2f673f4c5902b.gif
I like a person who thinks for themselves, and TO certainly does that. But I can’t wrap my head around checking what the Phillies are doing, in hopes the Giants “gain” on last place for the next draft.
And, I absolutely do not want to endure 100 L’s this year!
I think he sees us as an interesting group to toy with.
Agree 100%.
I think the top 1 or 2 picks are cursed. Aim for 5th and maybe they can grab that best collegiate hitter. Beer is his name, I do believe. Or he is supposed to be the best next year.
Ghorky’s gonna make The Oracles day right here…
There ya go …. F4
Ouch ……….
What is that, 4 defensive bases allowed by Blach now?
Just trying to keep his ERA low
Blach Yips on that play
Pitching has righted itself today but apparently they waived the IQ requirement
105 pitches thru 6 and a quality start despite the yips. Do we pull him?
If we do, please board up the windows for the Blog Hurricane O’ Bochy Choices
I think he goes back out to face Blackmon then gets replaced by Kontos.
You’re spot on. Kontos did come in. Everyday George.
leave him in– bullpen is shot after yesterday and a man short too
Strick9 was the only one not used last night if memory serves me.
Should’ve challenged that
Another Dunston Balk
12 year olds should want a poster of Story in the middle of that throw. Magnificent play.
Which was better thst one or Arenado throwing from his butt
I say the Arenado silliness but what a show they’re putting on.
BARTENDER !!!!!
A round of shoju for the house!!!
YES! JAE !!
I just got chills
Although it could be the AC
No, it was the HR 🙂
This is an amazing moment
Seoul Korea Rockin the House
Wow!
Welcome to the Hwang show!
We can all Hwang Chung tonight.
Hwang-o Tango
Everybody have fun tonight…..
Curtain call!
Hope Ryder Jones was paying attention
Booking his flight
The Greyhound station isn’t that far from the ballpark.
I think he stays
Somebody is going when Nunez returns
Ok Surf
I liked the Bat Flip Psyche too
Hope they got the BALL. Worth a signed picture – Jersey – bat and autograph.
Murphy will write really bad words in Korean on a fake ball. Hwang might feint. 🙂
Blach is done. APPLAUSE !
not , edit: sorry watching on delay
Meaning he is coming out of the game
I may have taken a chance on Blach vs Nolan. He knows George really really GOOD.
Not well enough this time.
Mr. “Let the inherited runners score” has entered the game
Bullpen did a great job last night. Have some faith
We can hope
They did– no question — some help from Posey throwing out two runners
Reverse physce? (sic)
He should of started the inning, your Hero, likes to leave starter in too long .
And Peter starts with an insult. Nice work kid. Blowing off steam?
Bingo
You show me the insult in that post, I see my opinion, and a fact !
Three homers by the Giants today, Peter. Smile!
I ssid below keep Blach in. Bullpen is shot and a man short
You pull that one out of the deck quite a bit
He does it quite a bit .
Or takes him out too soon. Cant win either way
Blach pitched well though mentsl and physical errors cost him 2 runs
Yentl errors can kill ya
1 ER. Too funny.
Kontos channeling Peter
Look at the bite on that thing! Beauty
Mark Reynolds was a great sign by the ROX organization.
He re-invented himself last year and has continued that growth. Dangerous.
Hit and Run ……….
Dead quail…
Effing duck snort, bloop, Texas Leaguer, Flare ~ ~
Great reactions. At SS – one year ago Kelby does not come up with that. Kudos to Bapah for working on that play with KT!
Wotus is a great instructor. He makes all our guys better.
Nice job Kontos– I take it back
I’m calling it right now. Calling what? I’ll tell you in a minute.
Got ya
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qf5Eclt6_ac
That’s commonly referred to as Pulling A Pablo around these parts
I totally called that.
No lie about that nasty slider.
Is that Mavo front and center?
Wow, good eye. I think you’re right!
Do your job, Okert!
He seems to think his job is to wing some Nuke Laloosh bull killers early
Got us out of it. Whew.
Henry Schulman@hankschulman 7m7 minutes ago
Hwang is the first Giant since “he-who-shall-not-be-named” to homer in his first big-league game. #SFGIants
I’m pissed at Bruce because every pitching change leads to “unstoppable todayyyyy”
The streaming app mercifully shows different ads (but I’m about 60 seconds behind y’all)…
Your app is apparently stoppable todayyyy
It’s been hanging and freezing on me a lot today. I think the IT guy here is on to me …
I had both my Dish and internet fritz out today at the same time. I keep waiting for the cyber “big one”.
Neo must be causing havoc in the Matrix today
Okert’s ERA is under 7. MyGuy!!!
He’s in The Moore Zone!!!!!!
Hey, Moore leads MLB in ER. That’s something.
ER visits? Makes sense
Bruce I said gonna slap a little Slania on the bump just so we can get some PBJ (Peter Butthurt Johnson) appetizers!
* Actually gonna be Bow Hunter The Hip Killer
“Juuust a bit inside…”
INCOMMING!!!!!!!
We caught a break right there …
‘Pull the ball Joe”
I will take a deep long fly ball to the warning track right here
Baggerly’s Tweet to the right has Hwang’s HR play-by-play call in Korean. Pretty cool.
Good AB…
This is a rookie with some promise.
Even with a dicey hamstring….
Go Stanford Cardinal!
Gators swept LSU 🙂
Parker or Mac Will would be back in the dugout by now ….
Great AB. Slater has been quite a find. I think we found our LF for the future. No need to look into the market for one.
Might be RF?
Should be RF. Pence to LF in 2018.
If, that is, Pence can still play next year.
Span/Pence to LF
Cain from KC to CF
Here we go, BB9. Sac fly, base hit better.
We need a two strike adjustment off of a lefty – lefty matchup
Runs Thrown In !!!!!!!!
RTI
Can Jae Hwang another one?
Reviewing Slater’s slide
Tom Emansky is NOT happy with today’s game
Wonder if everyone got that 🙂
Coach did!!
Find some OF grass, Hwang. Pick up that run!
Or find my seats.
Does Mom partake?
She sews. Does that count?
no
Druggie!!!!!
Dyson in the ninth?
Yup.
LOL

Close for the sweep. Get this done.
Arenado due up 4th – it’s never easy.
No walks Okert
You’ve been jinxing quite a bit lately, Hoona
holy moly that was close.
Got em
If the Giants trade Hwang for Leake, this will become the most entertaining blog on the planet
who’s the s*** stirrer now?
Hank Shulman!
TO on back to back shifts
I saw Shulman and Pavlovic just after the game in the tunnels. Schulman looks like he’s going to keel over soon and Pavlovic looks like one of those bros you want to avoid in the Marina on a Saturday night.
Tapia is a PEST ala Juan Pierre
Yeah, this kid can play.
Well, farmed Talapia is not reliable for being safe.
Oh, Tapia.
Panik won’t be leaving the Bay Area
Leaving On The Myhill Train to Georgia!
He should be an “untouchable” IMO
STRICK 9
STRICKLAND
The Sands of Hawaii beaches are rippling (pun) with indignation.
Get the save, Strick. Lots of redeeming potential right here.
Says Pastor John ….
Ugh Strick.
Blackmon doesn’t kill the Giants. Nice series.
So is Hwang a keeper? What say you guys and gals?
The real answer is too soon to tell
On game 1? Shhhh. Let’s watch for a few
Shhhhhh…
Smack 3 straight guys in the hip, then strike out the 4th dude. We need drama
You must have thrown the entire room of plates around earlier today
Strickland was one of the 2 relievers that didn’t pitch last night.
We’re going streaking!!!!
Peachy, you first!
I only do that when drunk off of smirnoff sour apple vodka which I have not touched in 13 years.
You’re not drunk off the sweet nectar of victory?!?!?!?!
No, but thank you for reminding me I have some leftover moscato in the fridge I need to attend to!
PHEW
I’ll take it. A SWEEEEEP!!
SWEEP!! First of the year! Sweet! GIANTS!!
SWEEP! And Rockies Payback
I’m tempering my excitement so I don’t upset TO.
You just know that Ghorky’s will have young nephews that will marry into TO’s family
Well, whaddya know. Greek Giant is a prophet.
Good sense of smell.
Happy flight to Pittsburgh. Momentum and energy. Six of nine to the All-Star break, guys.
Now it’s up to TheSincere to spread good juju in Steel City.
You’re up, Maestro! 🎼
I think Fri. is the plan with 2 of my friends that are Bucco fans.
I think I’m going Fri. with two fellow orchestra pit members who are friends that I did shows with this year.
Yay!
You need to bring a peach to the game with you!
How SWEEP it is! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/48e328c763b12a2f61329ecded589b9b9ffe81b97b67e0d150cd7bde542fe1c6.jpg

Great Post
I know its only 3 games. But this us what Guants baseball is supposed to look like

30 wins! I didn’t think we’d see it before the ASB.
Going to wait for the Debbie Downers to say that Hwang’s homer was just a solo one.
And may have cist us the Number 1 pick
More on the juiced baseball.

Sooo Giants baseball is fun again? I think, right? I mean, it’s been awhile. Not sure I remember the feeling. But this is good. I’m going with Yes! Baseball is fun again!
Giants! Go!!

Melancon back to the DL.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2017/06/28/giants-place-closer-mark-melancon-placed-dl/437031001/
According to our resident genius, he must have thrown too many pitches last night. Or was it not enough?
Translation: According to are resident genius he must of thrown to many pitches last night.
14?
This is Fake News. In fact, I assert that this post was actually written by Peter Johnson. Take this, for example; “According to are resident genius he must of thrown…”
Note the use of “are” instead of “our” and “of” instead of “have”.
QED
This must NOT be the REAL Moooooooooose.
I think it must be: ten o’s is the real deal.
I seem to have missed the intention of your post and since I never read the first sentences of posts, I, perhaps, made an error in judgement.
lol
“Geniuses,” I thought. Didn’t they gang-up on poor Mateo and others about Melancon only pitching 1 inning.
You been sleeping all day?
No, I just haven’t read anything here for a few days.
Today’s game had five young men not fully established as MLB players yet (including Gorkys and Kelby), and a back up catcher playing, and missing the two presumed linch pins of the bull pen. They did a hell of a good job. The game was exciting, and the play was worthy of the team’s traditions. Congrats to Hwang for his first homer in the big leagues, too. Fun stuff.
As you might have noticed below, I sense that this must not have been a real game. I think it must have been a Fake Game. Who on Earth could possibly have been a REAL game? Right? NoBody!
make America SFGiant again?
Congrats to the Giants on a 3 game winning streak.
Congrats to Hwang for his first Bomb in the majors
Congrats to Gorkys for another hit and pushing his average to within 3 of Brandon Belts.
Please reload this blog. Many things will not make sense otherwise.
Bochy rolls a triple A lineup to the plate and completes the sweep. Brilliant.
Hey TO…remember your nickname for Hwang? Lol…
Great day at the ball park. Not as crowded, though it was on a weekday afternoon but nonetheless an enjoyable game.
1) Blach held his own despite an inconsistent strike zone and being wild.
2) Home plate umpire was a dick who looked like he was even giving the poor Giants’ bat boy attitude.
3) Not much was hit toward Hwang so hard to evaluate his defense, but he looked great in his at bats. The homer was a no-doubter, loudest sound of the bat I haven’t heard in the ball park in a while. Nice right handed bat off the bench once Nunez returns.
4) The bullpen stifled the Rockies the rest of the game.
5) Reached 30 wins and the first series sweep for the good guys.
Now I gotta rub some aloe on my skin after being sunburned. Hope everyone is having an enjoyable evening.
1 nice to see a pitcher work when his best stuff isn’t there and going up against a messed up umpire. Blach is not mentally weak. He’s a fighter.
2 can’t stand umpires but dread the day we go to auto zone.
3 nice to see Bochy give the 3A guys the lineup today. Tomorrow’s Giants looked good today. Hwang can play. Heard on the radio he went after a pop up behind the mound with a high sun and made the catch.
4 bullpen made Bochy look once again like the brilliant micro managing bullpen manager he is.
5 we’re rolling now.
Giants wins always make for enjoyable evenings.
Duggar is just now having first AB of season as lead off and DH for San Jose.
So he’s ready for the bigs. About time
A year or more likely two years away.
About time Duggar plays this season given the potential identified by TWG.
I made a really dumb comment about your Span/Kuennn post, It was a great comment, Sorry,
Thank you.
Sometimes it is just a matter of getting to know a posters sense of humor and personality online.
I think you are a smart, funny, and clever guy with a goof/d heart. You have much more history at TWG which is a fine internet forum featuring one of my favorite topics.
Duggar finished last season at AA hitting .320 and was the #4 prospect before the season. He’s only expected to be at SJ for two weeks, per Joe Ritzo. SJ has a DH and Richmond doesn’t, so they’re probably hoping to ease him back in with just hitting to get his timing back and see how his injuries have healed up.
If all goes well, he could easily be in the mix for the 2018 big team. He might already be with the Giants if he hadn’t been injured. Look at all the other guys who were in Richmond last year who’ve already made the bigs–Arroyo, Jones, Crick, even Slania.
#4-14, depends who you asked. Who listed him 4th? I had Slater higher than most outlets.
I doubt if the Giants bring up Duggar in 2017 because he is not on the 40 man roster and the Team will lose a year of service time.
If Duggar resumes his former progress, seems he will be on the MLB level some time in 2018 but if he to be a regular not until 2019 (not that I would not prefer earlier).
The Giants pattern is that many of their best prospects that have a relatively young start to MLB career make the jump from AA rather than any or extended time at AAA.
Recall I was high on Duggar and still am favorable (so glad finally made a 2017 appearance).
Hat trick so far with all the rust. Garcia hit his 12th. He first came up to San Jose in 2015. About time he graduated to AA.
Remember the day after Barnes and Cousins got in that “fight” at a NY Club and many here lost it and claimed they would go to jail and such, and I said it was much ado about nothing?
Well since then Cousins got traded and is in line for a massive payday soon and Barnes only won a ring with our Dubs.
LOLZ

I’m sure that someone already posted this, but Cody Hall is back. Made his first appearance of the year today, Love to see the guy make it back.
I’m so happy that Hwang got a chance and had such a happy debut. I really liked him at spring training, and if nothing else, he’s got a lively, positive personality that could spark the team.
Today’s lineup included four guys who started the season as River Cats and two others (Blach and Gorkys) who spent all of last season with Sacramento. Including Blach, there were four rookies in the lineup, and another one, Okert, pitched in relief.
Just like we all predicted in March, Ty Blach won his fifth game out of the #1 starter slot, with Hunter Strickland getting the save, Austin Slater and Ryder Jones playing the corners, and Jae-Gyun Hwang having the big hit.
Preficting todays lineup in April was a 1 trillion to 1 shot
There is a misperception about these kids- maybe 2 or 3 will ever be productive Major leaguers. We won’t see much difference than we have now,These are auditions, that’s all. Slater, Boyo, and maybe Beede will stick
IMO
But hey, they all seem to be better than Bongo Brown.
Right now the Giants can boast of the homegrown infield. Maybe someday they can boast a homegrown OF, as in 2019:
Reynolds in CF, Shaw in LF, Slater in RF with backup outfielders Duggar, Quinn, and maybe Jebavy too.
Shaw had a big game today. Andrew Suarez is settling in, too.
I think you’re right but a sweep after the travail we’ve been through tends to ignite unrealistic expectations.
Who said anything about expectations, unrealistic or otherwise? I was just commenting on how interesting the lineup was today compared with what we thought before the season.
You didn’t say anything about expectations nor did I. I was just replying to Michael by agreeing that we can’t expect too much. We had a good three games where Crick, Tomlinson, and Hwang performed well. We just have to hope that something clicks and they all stay in MLB.
Still need some big time players in the mix. Role players have a place, but they usually come with tempered expectations. Need some guys with sky is the limit talent and for them to fill slots in the middle of the lineup and produce. Hopefully one can come via trade that clearly vaults to the top of the Giants prospect heap. An OFer, preferably CFer would be a pie in the sky.
I forgot Crick. I hope that they’ll change him back to starting,
There’s always a chance of that, but with all his struggles as a starter, and his newfound confidence out of the bullpen, maybe he should continue that path.
One big OF bat would have a dramatic affect on the lineup. Give Posey some protection. And a #2 if they let Cueto shimmy into the sunset.
JD Martinez is a free agent this winter and he’s a legit stud middle of order bat. It would take an overpay and a Hail Mary to bring him to SF though.
Not to mention loss of draft choices? With the rules changes I’m not sure about that, but free agents seems counterproductive given where we are now.
Teams no longer lose first or 2nd round pick – Giants would be protected with old rules anyhow.
“Now, in the new CBA, teams with payrolls that exceed the luxury tax threshold will surrender second- and fifth-round picks to sign free agents who were given qualifying offers. All other teams will surrender third-round picks. “
iI was a general comment, mistakenly replying to you comment. Many seem to think that there will be major overhaul.
Very happy they just didn’t lose Hwang. Seems his power stroke has been coming around big time. So perhaps OF isn’t his game, but between he and Tomlinson, that’s respectable backup infield. And you never know, Hwang could win out at 3b.
If the Dodgers can hang on and lose tonight, SF will be 22.5 games behind. So the Giants need to gain 4-5 games a month for the next three months on LA and sweep the 9 games left head to head with them. The math is there. They can do this. Giants are better than their record. Pittsburgh is not as good as their record. One series at a time.
We all want what you want but, of course, you’re bonkers!! They’re not going 60-21 to close out the season. Meantime, they shouldn’t try to daydream wins into existence. One win at a time with focus, concentration, and execution.
Did you see them sweeping the Rockies at home, let alone win one game with the way they had been playing leading up to this series?
Giants are a different team right now. They’ve been a hungry, and determined ballclub since the Rosenthal story broke out.
Granted, it’s one series, but their favorable schedule in July could help them get back into the swing of things. One series at a time.
The Giants are 13.5 games behind the Rockies for the second wildcard. Even with their current losing streak, the Rockies are playing at 94 win pace. Even with their current winning streak, the Giants are currently playing at 102 loss pace. In order to reach 94 wins, the Giants need to go 64-17 the rest of the way, or 128 win pace, which only 12 more wins than any team has ever had since the 162 game schedule was implemented.
The Giants made the wildcard last season with 87 wins, which was a relatively low total and not likely to be the number this season. In order to get to 87 wins, they’d need to go 57-24, which is obviously only 114 win pace.
Then there’s also the fact that they’d also have to climb over the 8 teams that are between them and the second wildcard. No, the math isn’t there.
I bet money that the 2nd NL wildcard won’t win more than 87 games…but that allowed, the math still isn’t there. The team should be able to go at least .500 rest of the way, which puts them at a 70ish win pace. Padres will get a better draft pick, same with the Phillies. Once the White Sox sell some guys they’ll certainly drop as well. SF could still be looking top 5 pick.
#4 or #5 work great. No real need to go for broke. Don’t want to totally demoralize the fans and the players. Just keep on developing and evaluating the utes and steer clear of significant injuries to critical players that could carry over into the future. That said, Posey should start fewer games behind the plate. He’s on a 107 GS as catcher, which is on the low side, but it certainly won’t hurt to back off and expose him less.
You tell ’em, TO. Don’t let anybody have any optimism on this season. Just keep smashing any hopes for a turnaround. I know we can count on you.
I’m assuming everyone here is an adult, so it’s not like I’m telling kids there is no Santa Claus. Also, they could certainly turn it around and play much better in the second half, but them being out of post season contention is just obvious. Also, if someone wants to tell themselves that, despite everything, the Giants are still going all the way this season, they’re free to ignore my outlandish opinion.
What is clear is you only cop to liking one player, Crawford, so all this time you’ve been trolling the blog similar to PuigRomoDirk________ fill in the blanks
If your going to lose ball games, lose today with the guys that can help you tomorrow. So Bochy throws out tomorrow’s guys and no shit, they win a game today. Pretty impressive win. And I think it might have sent a message to some players that you do not own the position. Gorkys is really coming around. I think Bochy saw his upside in ST but it’s taken longer for GH to come around. Don’t be surprised if he goes on a tear. Slater has to be an everyday guy. No question about it. I wish Jones war tearing it up. Hwang is going to make some noise. There is some legit hunger with these guys. And who knows. Maybe Dyson can be the closer. Doubt the FO will go for it with the amount of money paid to Melancon but it’s worth a look.
Crap. Dodgers down to their last strike and they tie the effin game.
Dodgers down 2-1 Top 9th 2 outs and with the count at 3-2, Grandal ties the game on a HR off a hanger.
Former G’s Steve Bedrosian’s son with the BS
Ball game!!! Dodgers lose! In comic fashion at that!
Dodgers lose. Grandal throws the game away. RTI for the Angels!
Angels walk off on a strike out.
Tides are turning.
Yep. I’ve never seen a walk off on a strike out. Crazy shit.
Grandal giveth, Grandal taketh away.
From hero to goat. Usually you go goat then redeem yourself. Hopefully the Dodgers have a hard time washing off the stink. You never know.
Not sure if Dodgers are going to have a historical meltdown, and make this a 4 team race but yeah, never want to peak too early. That 2nd WC though might be worth shooting for for the Giants.
Yep. Until we’re mathematicaly out of it, we’re still in it.
Seems the Rockies are in the process of such a snow meltdown. But they are still extremely well positioned for 2nd WC.
I’m just trying to speak it into existence like Lavar Ball. If he says the Lakers are going to make the playoffs next year, then who’s to say the Giants can’t? Giants have a loooot of work left ahead of them, that’s for sure.
I’m actually kind of curious about what the FO decides to do with Cueto moving forward if the club continues to win.
Rockies’ pitching staff looks very very shaky right now.
And believe me, the rest of the league is going to take note of the fact that Rockies got swept by the Giants. Teams are not going to let them off the hook easily.
They need more than just the Dodgers to meltdown. Likely they will be selling end of July. Best start thinking about next year.
lol the Giants are on a 100 loss pace and you’re talking WC.
Just saw that. (snicker)
Dodgers hearing Giant footsteps. Carved two gamess off their lead in 3 days. At this rate we’ll be in first place by… well ok, lets see, carry the 1…. in a while.
I can’t even remember I’m who I am replying to. Should have just skipped the whole day, Goodnight, folks,
A walk off strike out. That’s some funny shit. Ouch.
CUBS LOSE! CUBS LOSE! The arrogant POS Lackey with a fine performance: 5 1/3 innings, eight earnies, nine hits and two walks. Now 5-9 with a 5.24 ERA. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving a**hole.
You do realize the Cubs are 500 and the Giants 19 games UNDER 500.
Dwell on that for a minute.
It’s OK to also dwell on lackey being an arrogant POS
Madden too
Or any other arrogant Cub POS.
Correct, the Giants could tie the longest ever winning streak in MLB and still be below .500
Brewers lose too. Maintaining just a one game advantage. Are they in it to win it? Will they enter the Johnny Cueto sweepstakes? The Cards won, now 3.5 back, Pirates are 4 back, both below .500. Can either give the Cubbies competition. Seems like the Cubs will eventually go on a run and get some real separation. Are they in the Johnny Cueto sweepstakes?
Hwang’s HR… Enter the Jae-Gyun:

Very nice. Thank you. More to come. Doesn’t he join an illustrious pantheon of Giants whose first hit was a HR? Will Clark for one, I know there are more.
Baggs reported that there are 17 Giants who have done that. It seems a big number.
John Montefusco
Wasn’t Willie Mays first hit a homer?
Adam Duvall and Brett Pill!
