Greek Giant
Todays Game: Giants (32-50) VS Pirates (37-43) at Roberto Clemente Park, 4:05 PM
Matt Moore (3-8, 6.04) Vs Chad Kuhl (2-6, 5.58)
Last Night the Giants Bashed. Let’s keep it up!
Five Questions
- How long is Matt Moore’s rope?
- Will the Giants continue their hot hitting?
- Who will end up with a higher average Denard Span or Joe Panik?
- When will MadBum make his return to the team?
- How should we interpret Lawrence Baer’s comments on the Giants not rebuilding this year?
this is not for TO, or brother E, or the other negative nellies, debbie downers, etc. it’s more for guys like me, TF, ST, and the other die hards. if the giants go 60-21 for the 2nd half of the season, can they sneak in to the playoffs? the 1st half was an aberration, for sure. it was the perfect storm of injuries, and everyone, except BP28 being ice cold at the same time. the real giants will show up the next 3 months. strap yourself in, this is going to be an awfully fun summer.
TO’s theory is beyond bizarre. I know he’s a Giants fan of long standing, but wanting to have the worst record in baseball is silly.
60-21 is farfetched. But playing the kind of baseball where the other team knows that they faced the real San Francisco Giants (no matter the outcome), and where our team starts to reset itself is greatly to be hoped for.
If I work on it, I can probably devise a better adjective than ‘silly’. Probably the better choices can’t be typed into Disqus?
Overtaking the Phillies is probably unrealistic. I only ask that they do the best they can.
I do like people like yourself who think for themselves – other viewpoints can be quite thought provoking. But on this one, we just don’t agree.
Doing the opposite is not thinking for yourself.
Attention seeking comes in many obnoxious forms
Of course. Someone who disagrees with you must be seeking attention.
“Am I wrong?”
“Provoking” was the operative descriptor in that sentence.
Atta babe.
Approve.
Ditto!
Brother Steve, too bad we all can’t have a drink of your kool-aid or smoke what you smoke.
great take on the situation, but the Giants best case scenario is to play 500 ball the rest of the way and that will be a victory in itself.
The team is not very good, the first half was not an “aberration” it was more of a culmination of bad contracts and bad drafting.
5. Given the incredible dominoes that fell this year, you should interpret it as confidence in the core of the team.
All for the Span sock. If you’re uniform is ridiculous, wear it that way.
Is that a cross between an octopus and a mushroom cluster in your picture?
Cubensis bloom.
Related to the Orlando Bloom?
No, but Tony Orlando liked them. Not sure about Dawn.
This is indeed an educational blog.
Waldo Span!
1. All season, they really don’t have many options. They just need him to work himself out of this.
2. No, it’s not like they just learned how to hit all of the sudden.
3. Doesn’t matter in the big picture
4. He should be shelved rest of the season
5. Typical Giants PR BS
Lopez vs. Affeldt is no contest. Lopez is waaay better.
How long is Matt Moore’s rope? Just a foot above the ground.
Will the Giants continue their hot hitting? No reason that they score can 10 runs a game
Who will end up with a higher average Denard Span or Joe Panik? No reason to answer that
When will MadBum make his return to the team? How fast is his dirt bike?
How should we interpret Lawrence Baer’s comments on the Giants not rebuilding this year? Believe him
Let’s have it, Matty Mo.
If the first step to recovery is acknowledgement, I’m on my way:
I have the Moore Yips
with good reason.
Matt Moore – Torture!
I have more confidence in Matt Cain than I do in Matt Moore.
1: short enough so his feet fall 1 foot short of the ground
2: Nope
3:Span as he goes down with an injury for the season
4: Way to soon
5: Giants are never rebuilding, even when they sucked in the 000’s
Giants look good in Cubs old road colors.
1 Plentiful
2 Yes
3 Span
4 when we start to sniff the post season, or opening day next season. But knowing the way the FO operates, soon after the all star break
5 that of a caretaker for the board of shareholders
Hopefully 3 walks max.
OK, That’s it for me.
Pretty sure that’s gonna come up in the currently held conversation.
I was just answering #1
oooh, snarky! I like it.
Ridiculous. Do you not throw some warmups from the stretch? Come on, kid.
I’m not on the Mooreboat. Soft in the spine thingy.
Spineless heaver
Maybe, but as Javi says his stuff plays. It’s Jonathan Sanchez 2.0. Focus and execute. Trust Buster.
Hard to pitch into the seventh when you throw 24 pitches in the first inning.
It’s 28 but who’s counting
I was guessing. 😊
I do like Javi, but he tends to dance perilously close to Krukow Unicorn Territory
true
And a dopey look on his face.
Once the game starts he does.
He should change to #75
Great run saving play by Moore. Also keeping the no hitter in tact.
LOL
He’s got a shot if his pitch count limit is 264
Hit one over the fence when the team needs it Belt
So, you grading his home runs?
Seems like the HRs always come when they’re leading by a ton or losing by a ton.
Nope.
I know it’s a frustrating season, but Belt is having a very solid season all around. Enjoy it, Hoona
Oh no, he’s having a fine season. In fact, I think he’s going to hit a career high mark in HRs. That’s fine. I’m enjoying the season, all right.
Myself and Crawfish Joe were the first ones to notice the team’s turnaround by the way. I’m not giving up on the season yet.
9 of his 15 HR this year have come with the team within 2 runs. 5 of them have come in tie games. His HR have come in more important situations than anybody on the team this year, no joke. Not every HR can come in a clutch situation.
94 mph fastball to an 81 mph change up. Why can’t he pitch like this every time? He’s the very definition of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
I just named the plant in my office at work Jekyll and Hyde. Kuhl story, I know.
Why you working on a Sat?
By just I mean yesterday afternoon
That’s the definition of just?
In my peachy world, yes
Kuhl breeze, mon
On a Kuhl run, I see, Beanie
Moore looks like he’s pitching on the planet Mercury.
Kuhl Beans
Nice reset inning, Matty. Like that.
If Kuhl gets diarrhea, would you call it Kuhl Runnings?
Is his in between innings beverage Kuhl Aid?
Oh YEAH
https://giphy.com/gifs/yeaaaaaaa-pkY4ra5dhljDW
It took me 3 looks at this post to realize that it was NOT Matthew.
I beat him to it and I’m not even Jamaican.
Strike 3 on Moore was not strike 3 on Moore.
That is a most definitely true and correct statement by you. HPU has to have a major bug up his ass in order to call that a strike.
This is 2-in-a-row HPUs with vision and judgement deficiencies.
And ass bugs, apparently
That’s a Dx I’ve never heard before. It sounds alright, just never heard it.
pitiful call
Update – Bob Meyer on the move in Joe Lacobs jet.
http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/07/01/warriors-to-meet-with-andre-iguodala-offer-him-a-three-year-deal/
Shams Charania@ShamsCharania 1h1 hour ago
Andre Iguodala has canceled the remainder of his free agency meetings, league sources tell The Vertical.
Warriors prepared to make a 3 year offer (per Marcus Thompson). There’s thoughts out there that Iggy will be bringing Rockets offer to Warriors. Probably Dubs or Rockets. Cavs also discussing trading Shumpert to Rockets (which will allow them to re-sign Kyle Korver), so there’s that too.
He was never going to any other team but the Warriors.
He’s a smart guy, he knows what they have here. Just wanted more money & years on that contract.
I tend to agree with that take
That’s right–big day in NBA today.
Who is care?
The Matt Moore-est Inning of the last 2 innings!
Why was the throw to third cut? It didn’t look off line. Or did it?
Two outs, no one on…
Geraint Thomas wins stage 1 of the Tour de France. Be honest, who here predicted that?
His EPO supplier?
Who is care?
Next step for MLB will be a biological passport where all blood tests are compared to the baseline. But juicers are always going to be a step or two ahead.
I’m still trying to figure out why they were in Düsseldorf.
20th anniversary of Ullrich winning the dopest tour ever?
A man should never say that he went for a jog. SMH
Flemm always struck me as a guy with moobs and a fanny pack
Moobs?
Man Boobs?
Man boobs
LOL. Okay then.
Man boobs. I’ve been accused. Often.
Flemm might wear the Manssiere.
Or talk about his sweat. Disgusting.
This is either the beauty of baseball or it’s a headscratcher: Moore has the highest road ERA of any NL starter at 8.39. The Pirates starter, Kuhl, has a home ERA of over 7.00. Giants have no hits thru 3 and it’s 1-0. Yep, should’ve saved some of those runs from last night.
A couple of teasers. Kuhl has a heck of an arm, looks like bullpen arm though. Moore has such high maintenance in his mechanics. Lots of fiddling to get his timing right.
Kuhl has only thrown what, 46 thru for 4?
Really settled down after getting lit by comebacker
One pitch: stretch. Yippee
Umpire granted time after Moore started his wind up. They never should do that. Messed with Moores head.
Moore messes with his own head.
Seems like he should do that in private.
Moore’s head is as delicate as egg shells
Exactly. Very fragile. Handle with care.
His parents really missed a fantastic opportunity.
He should be Jack Moroff
Yes, then he could become a pornstar as a backup career.
Kuhl Jack Moroff
Nice pick Panik. Saved a run
Has this camera dude been drinking?
Several camera DUI’s I heard
Forgetting that the Giants have hit the ball HARD several times The Oracle – is nevertheless rooting for a Pirates No Hitter – even as early as the 5th inning.
#ManCrushHoweverOnCrawfordbyTO
Did Flemm just say No Hits yet? Jinx this sucker.
Ryder will break it up
…..In the 8th
…as the clouds move in and thunder claps and it’s Ryder on the storm.
Kuiper has mentioned it about 298 times
Lots or partying after a midnight dinner last night per Ryder Jones’ first hit….
Some of Rob Deer’s former teammates in high school
https://www.facebook.com/ExtraMustard.SI/videos/703412569810527/?pnref=story
Heard that Kuhl has yet to record an out past the 5th this year. Giants will oblige.
Harrison and Cutch say “hi”
Oblige this ….
1) How long is Matt Moore’s rope?
* Sixth or 7th
2) Will the Giants continue their hot hitting?
* Depends on the Pirates pitchers changeup and what time they got to bed after….
3) Who will end up with a higher average Denard Span or Joe Panik?
* Span
4) When will MadBum make his return to the team?
* 2017_ July 32nd.
5) How should we interpret Lawrence Baer’s comments on the Giants not rebuilding this year?
* A Proud Investor/Owner Mouth Piece saying what they all do.
Let’s score some mfng runs. Ok, at least one
Start with getting a hit. Then another hit or two. Right here, guys. We’re making this guy look a lot better than he is.
I’ll take a HR
MAMMA!!
GOOD call
Browniestradamus
BARTENDER ! ! !
Atta boy Slater!!
Too funny
Well, that’s one way to get a HR. Why did it take so long for people to realize McCutcheon totally did not have it?
SLAYER! 🙂
Atta babe Austin.
TO is not happy right now.
Too good to bat 8th.
But it’s working
Might want to look up his best games, he had high RBI Games batting higher in the order .
It’s a team game. It’s working
MyGuy breaks up the no-no!
Strong quick hands
Moroff?
There is Mac Willamson, there is Jarrett Parker but there is only one Austin Slater.
Mac or Jarrett will be dealt in the off season. Slater is the real deal, with time might become ‘our’ Stephen Piscotty.
That would be sweet. Stanford strong.
El Spanola
Osuna Marrero
Or the former Detroit LF who rolled the ball to home plate
“Osuna is not a natural outfielder”
Giants: “well shoot, he should have been on our team!”
Kuhl has kuhled off.
He needs some Kuhl Aid
In nod to Harry Caray:
Kuhl Hand Lhuk
Awwww….
Keep the line moving….
Conga
Mike Foltynewicz KNOWS this current feeling in his tummy
Good call
Kuhl went a little Kuhlkoo Kuhlkoo for a few batters
Slater looks like he’s really having fun playing at this level.
It must be fun hitting bombs to straight center. He’s hitting big boy HRs.
Please, no Lab Puppy Piddle Inning, Matty
Groan LeadOff walk jinx 🙂
You just KNEW that Cutch wanted to come down from his leap …. take a few steps … and then throw the ball back to the infield …
A 4 effort
We need a grounder to Panik
Pence struck himself out on the previous strike, a hanging meatball right down the middle that he took.
He doesn’t miss too many of those eye level meat balls either
That ball was the deadest bird I have ever seen. Pick up your thumbs MEAT!
Let’s see if Sybil can pitch through it
I can’t let a guy name Max MORE OFF – do damage to me
BINGO AND don’t YOU just love Joe Panik
Ryder can’t let that ball roll ‘up his arm’
yes.
by the way, that is not the hardest quiz I ever had to take!
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/e2ccdbcc8f1a7ecca6c849c3d6af5cc0c5ec98c6224b59ea9ed7934419609235.jpg
That a Girl Matty Mo!
Uncomfortable resemblance.
Looked like Moroff just beat it out
Jacking us around.
I thonk so too
Thwak and Thonk
Crowd is calling the game
Bochy having them check the slide at 2nd, boys
Good call Matty O
JASO is a tough SOB at bat, did I say tough SOB at bat?
The slide part of the rule sucks. Get rid of it because …..he did….slide ….PAST the bag.
Ryder’s bobble hurt the back end call
It sounded like the announcer said “Josh” Jaso instead of John
My daughter believes he could make a romper look acceptable
What is a romper?
we probably don’t want to know!
Geez. First “moobs”, now “romper”
Keep up, Archie
Clothes your eyes and remember when you were single … 🙂
You mean a romp-him? Can anyone make that look acceptable? They barely look acceptable on most women.
Really should not be worn outside the preschool set.
This is a huge challenge to Moore, since he thought he was out of the inning
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/e48941b81d8fbb5a671e2e93b8abe0e9b055f8c2b22d7ebaf03dc6ea3443480f.jpg
I’ve got to say Kontos could make any holiday colors on the uniform look acceptable.
Even this? Finnish Independence Day.
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/711f0dda89484a35113c9699f9b41ba880b1dc19600930430cff4b86bf7d80d6.jpg
I mean, personally I think he’d look best with no uniform on, but sure, even that. It isn’t doyer blue enough.
95 MPH
KA KA * KA KA
Georgie Porgie
Bye Moore.
Kontos: Get. This. Out.
Attababe.
Harrison – a few yrs ago – I wanted in Orange and Black.
TOUGH SOB who plays anywhere you ask.
Likes to foul off 17 pitches per at bat
………………….
Never mind
No more for me
Like to see him throw in some Joe Morgan chicken wing.
Me too. Always liked him.
PORGIE
GREEK POWER!!!
Young George https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/36b893faa0a5c946e563bc40bcbbeb1a4ee6e9e93c592106ebf56eb76de25082.jpg
Whoa! Really? Wow.
LOL
He looks about 10 in that one. Not shaving yet.
Greek’s typically shave at 3
He has nice eyebrows.
George has a crush on Miss Amy https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/963f88623b376e33c0550aa2aebc551d400ea5a9eb1dda174c5f5f5c168df8e3.jpg
Jorge looks different
His beard has matured
That’s one way to put up a goose-egg inning. Let’s try the easier ways next inning.
Gotta score now. Buster HR?
Preach
Nice grimace Buster!
Big AB Belt
two strikes – right where he wants to be
That ball had fuzz on it
Trade speed for 28
I’ll take it
LOL Cubs
What now?
had the lead, now down one
#35 needs to put that on the ground …
Crawford has some serious funk going on at the plate.
BS interpretation call – replay
Umps hate the world
This is ridiculous. Umps should just say no. I thought thry already used their challenge?
They were right on the last one.
This’ll be a good spot for a PH HR.
If the Pirates wIn this Bochy gets tossed – total BULLSHIT CALL
BS!
Jesus Christ…
Get kicked out Boch. Go lose your mind. Com’on.
I agree.
Fuck NY! Fuck replay. That is absurd
Fuckin hilarious. So brutal.
Add in all the questionable strike calls, …
The effing rule is when you reach second and head past the bag towards third. One of Belts feet was ON the bag at second base.
I’m confused
They like to piss on trees to show authority. This time it was by a rules interpretation that is so wrong it’s laughable
I’m without words.
So are the umps. If you are the runner from first and you think your teammate at the plate hit one far – they sometimes ROUND second on the thirdbase side. Then they see the CF make a play so in heading back to first the runner has to retouch second base. That is not what just happened.
he didn’t round 2nd though
Prefuckinactly.
Exactly. He. Didn’t. Round. 2nd.
Such a cheap chickenshit call.
it was his body language
Guilty by hangdog.
His lack of a tan
Only Footy is bothered by that
A bad tan right here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHl_7WHZbzg
Unbelievable.
f****n homers.
That is the worst call I’ve ever seen! He has to make a definite break for third. Why would he even do that?
Bochy: get your ass out there and argue that BS. Blatant miss. Wow.
The problem is that the crew has no say. It’s all NY…so who would he yell at? They called it right
Belt truly is in The Twilight Zone on the bases. Weird things happen to him out there!
That rule was adopted my managers who can’t manage.
He is a KEEPER
Hell of a grab Austin! He’s the real deal
POTD
Pagan plays that on two hops.
Then it skips on by him to the wall!
lmao
Ought Oh …
Surprised Clint didn’t challenge Austins catch. He might of won it.
Clint Hurdle: The Human Rain Delay
I thought that was Gearrin.
Actually Mike Hargrove
Be Kuhl, Peaches
I’m as Kuhl as a cucumber. with peaches.
There’s nothing quite like chilled peaches with Kuhl Whip
This is fun
Thanks 🙁
Great play for the round table guys to analyze, and come to the conclusion that the umpires were incompetent. Simply because his foot was on the third base side of the bag!?
,,,,and his other foot on TOP of the bag
MLB Replay need to put their dicks in a blender
Call it the Lorena Bobbitt
If the umps can actually find it with their bellies being so big
They haven’t already?
They are on ice
So says George from Seinfeld
That double is on the first base ump.
Bell to Belt.
Atta babe GK.
Belt to the MLB replay office… https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/f83dfa4c68b766862a043bb7198741d64d4e0299f0186f234d496c09f6c2f29c.jpg

Astros pitcher dinged 80 games for Boldenone.
Which one?
David Paulino. Must have needed those horse meds.
Wow. So three in one day.
I’m conspiratorial enough to wonder if MLB chose today, the start of the most famous PED event in the world, to break news that they’ve been improving testing.
Interesting observation. Makes sense.
ESPN has Indians Colon suspended with Gregorio.
Guess it was Piss Week in baseball
MLB Replay dinged 80 games for Boldstupidity
Good spot for first big league dinger.
Rules when poorly written are not a substitute for using your brain.
I wanted to type brian, but thought it might diminish my credibility.
If loving you is ‘wrong’ I don’t wanna be right
Pretty damn impressive AB by Hwang
Yep.
The Bucco’s Pitching coach should be shown the new TIME rule on trips from the dugout and back.
trivago.com
Must be the haircut and sunshine – Stricks neck looks red.
Gotta get him here. Harrison up next.
Got heem!
K !
That’s a nice 2-pitch combination for Strick: 97MPH heater to go with a 83 MPH slider
The Men In Blue Absurd Tour.
The trapezoid strike zone.
Dan Bellino – either retire or be consistent. THAT is the only thing that hitters ask form

HPU not having a good day. In fact, none of them are.
Electronic Arts could do better.
Good Game either way. However TO is on his patrol tour of duty – praying for a loss.
You’ll know this one Clutch. What’s up with this lineup?
Rennie Stennett (second base)
Gene Clines (center field)
Roberto Clemente (right field)
Willie Stargell (left field)
Manny Sanguillen (catcher)
Dave Cash (third base)
Al Oliver (first base)
Jackie Hernandez (shortstop)
Dock Ellis (pitcher)
Was that the LSD no hitter?
no no.
First lineup without any white players. Won the WS that year.
Todays Pirates remind of that team a little bit with so many brothers.
We are Family.
No. That was ’79. This was ’71 when they stunned my Orioles.
Doubt it was the rally song, but the record I most remember from that year was Brown Sugar.
C’mon Buster, or we’re going extras.
Country Joe West was assaulted http://www.closecallsports.com/2017/06/assault-joe-west-hit-in-head-by-ball.html
Not kuhl
The difference to me between the NBA officiating issues and MLB:
NBA manipulates by placing refs of their choice to steer games.
MLB is a strong union with shitty umps who are butt hurt over replay and are defiant and bad.
and PISSED still 20 yrs later over the umps fired during the strike …
And taking it out on players who were in preschool at the time.
You think? Sad if true. They deserved all the crap they took after all those years of unchecked perks and benefits. Eric Gregg…give me a break.
Eric Gregg..LOL. Wasn’t he the guy that gifted a no hitter by calling strikes 12 inches outside?
1997 NLCS, Game Six. Braves at Marlins, FLA up a game. Worst strike zone management ever. Pitches to lefty hitters IN the righty batters box: strike. “Postgame: that’s my strike zone. Everybody knows it.”
Got fired for it, then sat at home and cried over it for appx five years. Pathetic.
One very unhappy hitter–after a game of getting jobbed all day by Gregg–left him a hamburger on top of third base.
Ryder Jones channeling another Jones in Chipper
Mets up 7-6 – somebody just went yard
Strickland’s first love was with the Bucco’s. He’s composed, but please don’t hit their #22.
dead red
Finish the inning, Strick.
Sweet slider on 2-0
You owe us, Strickland.
His 1-0 to Freese was a strike. He can only do what he can do…
By the way, he has the best stuff on this staff.
His 3-1 was a strike as well
Gracias.
Back to back walks.
He’s scared to throw it across the plate?
Nope…pulling through too far with his shoulder. It’s mechanical
No, it’s mental
It’s mechanical
It’s mental AND mechanical
Mentanical
how about he’s just an idiot that sucks!
Second that
You can not like him, but he doesn’t suck
He’s not strong enough mentally to handle situations like this. Country strong hick with poor concentration.
Giants were owed that call.
Jesus, 3 straight walks
Just throw over the damn plate and make them beat you!
He cant
Atta-babe, Strick.
thanks ump.
That’s a gift. Clear out your head Strick
Let’s see. You don’t want Gearrin. You don’t want Kontos. You don’t want Strickland. Who y’all want, Hoona?
I’ve been giving the bullpen credit. If you’ve been following my posts in this recent stretch, you’d know that
Just remembering the quick triggers and all the “mental’ claims
Mercy sakes alive, we’re still playing!
Meathead prevails!
My Guy the Bow Hunter! Just getting you guys involved. Atta babe!!!
Never a doubt in our minds.
Now put a run on the board. Maybe more than one. Belt-Crawford-Jones.
Torture, circa 2017.
This would be a huge W. Go get it.
6 hits, 9 walks, and somehow the Pirates only have 1 run. I hate walking the other guys!
Right Hurdle, Jones is faking it.
Wow, hit by a 100 MPH FB. Hope Ryder is okay.
I thought managers were allowed only one replay review per game?
As long as your challenge is upheld. You can keep going.
No
Clever reply, so now tell him why.
I think they get a second if their first is successful. And umps can call for them after the 8th or something
Hurdle needs to sit down and just STFU.
I got one would like to hear the head umpires assessment if this home plate umps work. This is brutal.
Josh Moorestricklandosich
That’s a lot of sewing right there.
Just setting up the double play
It’s good to be right, occasionally.
Walking the leadoff hitter– how many times?
Feels like 10
These guys dont trust their stuff– nibble nibble nibble. Automatic fine if you walk the leadoff man
10th total walk by the Giants. I don’t know how we are in this, having scored only once. Lots of K’s and that was a handy DP.
big help Moroff. Thank you.
Maybe Strick can pick Moroff.
A DP is even better!
I’ll disconnect the harpsichord if one of you guys hold down the musician.
Here comes Clint!
Oops. No???
Clint ‘high maintenance’ Hurdle.
YES!!!!!!
Grab some pine, Hurdle!
Limpy McReplay is DENIED!
Huge DP. Not pretty but Osich got the job done
Atta babe Osich and crew.
And JUST what the doctor ordered: DP.
Gotta score here guys. Kelby, get on base. Your speed plays here.
Here comes New York!!!!
Everybody gets a hit. Let’s go boys!
What’s Kuip talking about from Roberts?
After the high energy of yesterday, today’s game feels as if played in molasses.
Atta babe Span. Com’on Joe P.
As if Span is running…
Risp.
Worried about getting doubled off. Nevin had the read. Span did not.
Atta babe Joe.
Did Osuna not see the ball or something?
Playing deep.
Flem said he’s had a rough day out there in the OF today.
Didn’t gauge it right. I’m cool with that.
Crap.
Brutal. Gotta foul that off.
Whaaaaaa?
That’s a wide zone
Buster might not get anything to hit with the first base open
RTI !!!!!
rti
Nice!!!!
RTI!! Yes!!
Ambush the first pitch, BB9.
Com’on BB9
Big half inning to come
Lock it down, Dyson.
Posey is fucking amazing
F-bomb amazing.
Gold Glove
That’s why he makes the big bucks.
Great play by Buster. Any other catcher and that ball is in the OF
Great. Play. Buster!!!!!!!
Buster Imacatcher Posey is the man
The Great Buster Posey.
And it’s the 11th.
And we’ve made about 200 pitches
Buster is durable. No question.
He’s got him set up for something away now.
YES!!
Atta babe Dyson!!!!!!
Like that Dyson.
Buster Softy Posey offers condolences to his biggest fan on this win
TO had to pull over his squad car down a Josie alley due to hyperventilation.
You gotta like these guys.
Eh….they’re ok….
That was a nice win. The Giants used to win games like this more often than not.
an RTI win
What’s ‘RTI’?
run thrown in
Runs Thrown In. The former 3B coach Tim Flannery coined it, I think.
Five wins in a row! That’s one time through the rotation. Way to go SFG!
With arguably our best starter right now on the bump tomorrow, for the sweep.
Good for the Giants.
Good game Dyson.
Good game Posey.
Good game Slater.
Good game Hwang.
Good game Moore.
Good game Osich.
Good game Span.
Nail biter.
Confidence building. Something that seemed to be missing early out the gate.
Seems a different team than last week.
you can’t forget every day george…
Correct.
Good game Kontos.
Georgie saved the game, at that time.
What nails. I’ve got stumps.
Without a doubt, the worst HP Ump I’ve ever witnessed. That last strike was a ball. But he fkd with both teams all game long.
Awful. Flat out awful. And NY too.
Not to forget that BS at second base with Belt.
Apparently that qualifies as the worst ever.
There is NO WAY an umpire on the field would make that call. Just glad we won in spite of horrible umpiring.
And it wasn’t Angel Hernandez or CB Bucknor?
Those guys are horrible, and confrontational – but consistent.
If I were Belt (or Pence, or a half-dozen Pirates), I would’ve flipped out. He was all over the map. Simply atrocious.
Pole vaulting over mouse turds. Only Bochy could give a speech of inspiration like that to his team and get results. Awesome.
#rallymouseturds
Off to the RiverCats game with Mrs. Crawnik. Beede pitching tonight. Great game by our Giants. A total team effort. Shark smelling blood tomorrow.
Have a great night everyone!
DH Crawnik sweep!
Atta babe (to quote Mateo). :o)
Should be perfect weather out there. We’re on our way home from the airport.
Calling out to Peter: you said you hold stars to a special, standard…how about Buster’s final inning? Great AB, Great game saving defensive play. Are you happy?
I just saw a side view on the Cutch dribbler. I have NEVER seen a catcher go out that far and still throw a runner out like Cutch who clocks out at 4.2 to first base.
Best catchers play on that type of play ever. Bar None.
Wish they’d show a highlight of that one!
http://m.mlb.com/video/v1561932383/?query=buster%2Bposey
Nice. Thanks!
Just watching this clip over and over and realizing what a great teaching tool this is. Buster is on the move just as quickly as McCutchen. McCutchen hustling to first, Buster calling off Dyson. Belt checking the runner and ready to throw to second. Panik and whoever on third to their bases. Even the HP umpire in position to see McCutchen running down the line. McCutchen running well past the bag at first. And of course Posey immediately focusing on what’s next. Just great stuff all the way around.
So true
It was a “win or lose the game” play, and Buster made it. He’s one of the best players in the game. Anyone who knows anything about the game can see that.
Know what – it was a LONG and desultory game – Slater sure kept it going! – but the Boyz grinded out a W. True Giants grit.
Indeed. Any number of times they could have coughed it up but didn’t. Gut check win.
Good call Clutch.
It’s Sunday morning and I just saw the replay. You are exactly right. I would have bet my next paycheck that he could not have thrown that guy out from that far away going in the other direction. Wow.
A clinic video for sure, one no kid will actually accomplish.
He’d probably say that it wasn’t good enough. Should have have been a home run or an at-bat that produced an exta-base hit.
Other Worldly stuff today …and will it be a web gem, or whatever the Networks We Dont Watch Anymore call it? Probably not.
A Padres win over the Dodgers later tonight would be a good thing.
Every Padres runner who reaches second should go through extended histrionics
Buster http://m.mlb.com/video/v1561932383/?query=buster%2Bposey
And to think that the thought of being called up to the Show was not good enough to refrain from the ‘Vitamins’. However somewhere – somehow – some ball player is taking something.

Once again, KT is the POTG. He showed the guys how not do to it. What a teammate, willing to sacrifice his own AB, for the greater good.
And he is the best 79 pound player in the bigs.
I’m always a believer in the pound for pound metric.
Finally, a man who gets it. What’s really cool, he and Tiffany can share clothes once she loses 30 pounds,
Tiffany Tomlinson had a baby a few months ago.
So?? She have to lose few more. They want to play each other at parties,
A facelift too, don’t ya think?
This is a crazy thread. And not crazy good.
It started out as just a joke about the absurd props that KT gets -for just being a decent utility guy.And some over reacted. The deal was about KT’S frail appearance and, as far his wife. it was about her losing weight to match KT’s . There was nothing to slight to his wife; See, now i have to make him the POTG again tomorrow.
Now I’m offended. Clark Kent does NOT have a frail appearance!!
OK, OK.
“‘he’s slight of build”. And I’m putting Tiff at 109.BEFORE she loses the weight to KT feel better about himself. She’s the wife of the year.
you seem incapable of leaving this alone – grow up — what are you 12 ???
I’ll be 10 in a week. Come on, be my pal. I’ll let you play Marco Polo.
Whatever. Few of us read your crap anymore. And lay off the kid, and come on man–ragging on his wife, a new mother? Swine.
I didn’t rag on his wife or the kid. Your reading comprehension was never any good. Try again.- or don’t read my crap.
You’re right – stupid joke – I apologize to all.
Now THAT is out of line.
oh for heavens’ sake — stop it with the women’s appearance s$#!t will you ??? stupid comment that has little to do with anything
It’s KT’s appearance, or rather his non-appearance, pal Tiffany is just trying make him feel better .BTW, how did you get in, Mr,Catsup?
I am not your pal – stop with the comments about women’s appearance. That should be beneath you or are you just rude ?
Pay attention- I didn’t make fun of her appearance, it was KT’S.
when you comment on a woman’s weight in a derogatory manner that IS “making fun of her appearance” — so I get your responses now you are just oblivious
I didn’t comment in a derogatory manner. It was KT’s weight. Same old Mr. Catsup- clueless.. Now run along, sonny.
I am done with you now, you will join the others in the boiler room. Bring canned and freeze dried food- you will be there for awhile
For the second day in a row, your reaction to a Giants win is to mock and taunt Kelby Tomlinson and then go on to fat-shame his wife, a new mother? What’s your deal, anyway?
KT is a nice young man and a valuable utility player. What did he ever do to you?
He’s an angry fuck who doesn’t care if he offends. He wears it like some badge.
Perfect description. I usually just scroll by his posts, as they are almost always a bucket of nonsense.
How did I ‘fats-shame” his wife, whatever that means, I’m sure that he is a swell young man and with a lovely wife and sweet child. Take it easy, He is darling in a gingham frock, BTW,
.
Hey he’s fast and he plays a pretty good 2b. But if those line drives to the right side ain’t finding holes, he’s in trouble.
Once she thought about it,Lefty knows that I wasn’t making fun of his wife. She’s probably just upset that Gorkys has pulled ahead in the OPS war.It shapes uo to be a barn burner- Unless Kelby gets caught up in the options game.
Gonna say it’s fun watching Greinke deal, then Story goes yard from his knee…
Iguodala back to the Warriors, three years, $45 million.
Yay! (I guess…)
It’s not surprising news, but it’s very good news.
I like his face.
That is a relief. I expected Iggy back but the talk of him trying other teams before talking to Warriors was a reason for concern
Great fit for Iguodala and great fit for the Warriors. Great player.
Wonder what is up for centers in 2017-18?
West has already agreed to come back for a year. Zaza says he wants to come back. I predict the next thing we’ll hear is a deal with Zaza.
I suspect they will lose JaVale McGee and Ian Clark. Those are two younger guys who haven’t had their paydays yet, and they both had excellent years and can make more money than the Dubs will have space to pay them.
Damian Jones will likely be the third center, and there’s always Draymond.
JaVale McGee added to the team this season, I would like him to stay more than Zaza (though I like Zaza).
The Warriors have a clot of high draft choices in Jones and Looney that have not gotten much opportunity.
McCaw was a pleasant surprise with break out season.
Not much playing time for Clark and he will probably start and certainly make more salary elsewhere.
McGee has been in the league about 10 years, not really a younger guy anymore, but he does deserve one last pay day if he gets it.
He was a camp invite at the last minute last season, so anything he can get will be a blessing.
Mac is gone.
ESPN says three years for $48 million.
Isn’t Green at about $16 million per year already?
What a team! What a time for athlete’s salaries!!

Wow, Arroyo got HBP in the same hand in his first game back and had to leave the game.
Beede didn’t have it tonight.
Shaw has hit another homer.
Fk.
Shite.
Yay!
Beede has rarely pitched well of late.
Starting depth at AAA looks notably less robust with Beede’s performance of late and Gregorio’s PED suspension.
Less robust? How about nobody there?
Shaw’s been very impressive. He’s really trying to force the issue and earn that promotion to the bigs this year. I would prefer that he stays down in the minors though until September and begin next season in AAA. I want him to get as much rep batting in the heart of the order as possible before getting called up.
He’s probably been batting in the heart of the order for as long as he’s played baseball.
EDIT: In AAA.
If he played 1st he’d be just Belt-Lite. And LF is covered. The only way it works if they get a MLB ready player for Belt
That’s a lot of walks, but Fresno lineup tough to navigate. Beede still has a way to go.
But how about Shaw. 2 for 3,. 305 avg. Some hitters coming up! The future ain’t so wan.
Check out some of the numbers for our PCL sluggers in the last several years. Pleased to meet you, I’m Mr.Back Foot Slider. You’ll be seeing a lot of me, son.
15 games to go!
Yep.
Padres can’t even put up a fight against LA.
Dodgers and their lefties. Smh. Archie Bradley a stud in the pen. Could Beede be better in the pen?
Heliot Ramos 4-5 with a HR and 2 doubles tonight so far. Playing CF and batting lead-off. AZL Giants leading AZL A’s 9-7 in the 8th. Live box score:
http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2017_07_01_giarok_athrok_1&t=g_box&sid=milb
Ahhhh yeah! Bring him up! The phenom!
Hey wait, you’ve got Reynolds in CF next yr? 😉
We have 34 CFers for next year.
He has an error (fielding), but also an assist (threw out a guy at 3rd base).
Ramos was 7 for 10 with 6 XBH (4 2B, 3B, HR) in first two professional games, he is only 17 years old.
Good start.
Johnny Cueto trade bait, Clint Frazier, had a double and homer in his MLB debut. Of course he may play his way off the table and into long term future of Yankees.
The word is that he would fetch less than even a straight rental. He wants to stay, keep him.
Frazier is not going anywhere, the Yankees are really high on him.
Funny you think they are developing him to hand him over.
They were really high on Dustin Fowler too. So, Fuzzball, who do you think they’d give up for Cueto? What do you think of Blake Rutherford? Dream on?
Fake Trade Addiction is a growing epidemic in which it’s victims are afflicted with one-way vision
And here I made KT the POTG in perpetuity.,Maybe I’ll just make it a week.
The Rockets have Harden, Chris Paul, and are now talking about Carmelo Anthony. There aren’t enough basketballs for those guys to play at the same time.
So that’s the game that they play,
plus they’d have to score 150 points a game since Harden and Anthony play no defense.
There are barely enough basketballs for Harden alone much less anyone else of star caliber. It’s incredible that Curry, Thompson and Durant did so well together; this proposed threesome would have no chance.
This reminds me. Apparently, a basketball is roughly one cubic foot in volume and the velocity of river current is usually measured in cubic feet per second so the handy visual is to imagine basketballs passing under a reference point on a river, as in 100,000 basketballs pass under that bridge every second. So, this year, there could be enough basketballs for those hoopsters or for the pot growers to grow some kind buds.
Do you have any fun marijuana stories? Illegals grows? Drivers under the influence?
DeAntoni is a great coach like Phil.
Brisbee hilarity:
“What if I were to give you this game myself, Pirates? Would that be acceptable?” said Hunter Strickland, who was pitching with his eyes sewn shut like the guy in the “Man in the Box” video.
https://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2017/7/1/15909412/sf-giants-recap-pirates-extra-innings
It was good to read Grant’s bit on Kontos-George has taken a lot of heat over the years But he’s been an invaluable piece of the pen. From Brisbee -“he’s been the Giants’ best reliever this year.”
One might say that it’s a low bar, but that he’s been the best is not even arguable.
Anyway, very strange and entertaining game.
Kontos a guy that gets moved at the deadline?
Why? As good as he’s been, a middle reliever just won’t bring enough value.
Because it’s fun to make trades and some team could use him and therefore make an offer that Bobby Evans has to mull over before he refuses.
Besides, we’re only 23 games back, we don’t need much.
One reason I love baseball; statistics that provide a reality check. No matter how we perceive things to be, if you cannot constantly say, “But I might be wrong.” then you are most definitely going to be wronger than most.
But he was DFA’d by the TWG Fake GM Association 9 times!!
George is used to it- I think that once he might have been DFA’ed between pitches.
Yeah, he’s pretty good. Quite the media darling these days too. On the radio and on the TV set as well. Local kid does good.
Heavy reading on Sunday:

Heavy indeed. Lots of heavy these days. I guess that’s why we enjoy following the unbearable lightness of Giants baseball.
13 miles left in TdF. Wet sprint finish.
Any pileups in the peloton? That’s why we watch.
12 miles left. Should be plenty of carnage.
But cycling is no joke. In the spring one year, a race came our way in the hills. On a downhill, a rider lost control and hit a utility pole head on, losing his life.
I hit 68mph on a descent off Clear Lake and the bike started shaking like the Tacoma Narrows bridge.
Yikes. You are one bad ass dude. That’s living dangerously, and all for the need for speed.
I may be the most bad ass person here. Trained in combat pilates.
But you’re also kind!
Woo. I was on that bridge recently!
Taylor Phinney, American, son of Gold Medalist Connie Carpenter and the great Davis Phinney, just went on a solo move in the rain with 11 miles to go. That’s why I watch.
30 second lead with 2 miles. He could do it!
The Closer Posey video was nice

Is this your favorite Stevie Wonder album? I can’t decide between this one, Talking Book or Fulfillingness’ First Finale. The latter does have my favorite Stevie song: “Heaven Is Ten Zillion Light Years Away.”
this is not only my favorite stevie album, but might be my favorite album period. ten zillion is such a beautiful song, with a message that everyone needs to hear…
This blog the weirdest blog ever, you can talk crap about Barry Bonds and it is ok, because some blog posters think they are pure as snow, and they consider Bonds a cheater, and a disgrace to the Giants organization, but do not talk crap about the great Kelby Tomlinson , to some blog members he is the equal to Jesus Christ .
Are you saying Jesus can’t hit a curve ball?
Actually I think the big problem was that his wife was targeted and you just can’t go there.
But yeah, Kelby is rocking a ..254/.303/.268 line in 77 trips to the plate. For a contact, no power hitter, his 21% K rate is also high. So which is the real Kelby? This guy, or the one with a .290 career average in 390 trips to the plate.
His wife was not targeted, unless you consider 108 LBS Fat, Mike said KT weighs 78 LBS so his wife would need to lose 30 LBS to wear his clothes , it was a joke, to show how skinny KT is .
If he wasn’t so lithe and thin, he wouldn’t be so fast and nimble on the infield. Did you know Kelby is 6’2? I would have thought he is 5’10”.
I do not care, the point is Mike did not pick on his wife at all, the blog has reading problems, meaning they like to make a Mountain out of a mole hill, are Pole vault over mouse turds !
I agree. The reading and writing is not always perfect on the blog. I like your imagery.
“I like your imagery”
You ARE a kind soul. And a peacemaker.
And, Footy’s “unbearable lightness of Giants baseball” is the most interesting phrase of the morning.
He sure won’t be rockin’ the boat.
The comparison to JC makes this an appropriate Sunday morning post. Church of PJ. Bless me Peter for I have sinned.
I can do it I am Catholic and spent most of my childhood going to church at least twice a week .
For a Catholic, you have some serious Anger Fangs
I diss like stupid and this blog is full of it !
Just try to be more kind.
You do diss like stupid.
You trying to be a funny grammar guy again, here is the thing with me, I am not PC at all , and some blog members are too sensitive , and get all hot bothered to easily by my bluntness, and then it is on, since I am never scared of a fight .
You start fights where none exist. Your posts are good but you always need to blow off steam. Look into becoming a recovering Catholic.
I have to learn how to turn the other cheek, I am no KT are Jesus Christ .
“I come to this blog to blow off steam”.
A direct quote from PJ. Many here have tried to counsel and correct, but it falls on deaf ears.
Many of us have blocked him, and he’s already been warned by GG about his behavior.
When he isn’t insulting us, some of his analysis can be pretty insightful.
Wearing Nasty as a badge is not necessarily a Catholic thing to do, Peter. As a fellow Christian ( but not as die hard Catholic), I would advise you if the gentle tenets of your religion, the most important of which is the Golden Rule.
You may be kind and full of grace, but you certainly don’t share that with us on here. Rather, you bark about not “being PC” and bark, ridicule, name call. That may be how families with a ton of brothers learn to communicate and survive, but it’s not becoming in a social setting
What infinite patience you have.
You couldn’t have said that better, PJ!
Wait, I’m sorry. So you can understand – You couldn’t of said that better, PJ!
That must be a Joke, since that is all you post .
For once, PJ, I’m completely serious. Just for you, since you have no sense of humor. It’s your badge, you have to wear it.
I still own my tee shirt.

Brisbee on future G’s prospect Belby Tomlinson
“Just for good measure, Posey’s fearsome presence in the batter’s box is what forced Daniel Hudson to grip the ball a little tighter, which is what caused the wild pitch that won the game. If Kelby Tomlinson’s younger brother, Belby, is at the plate, Hudson is going to go right at him.”
Why talk crap about Kelby? For the record, I didn’t like Bonds long before the cheating, because after ’93 the brass had the attitude “we have Bonds now, we don’t need Clark anymore.” Will was why I became a Giants fan in ’89, so like the Astros in ’88 letting Ryan walk, I divorced my second team in ’94, and I only remarried the Giants in 2009 because they had a young, exciting team building without The Great One!
Barry was a conundrum. I liked the godson of Willie thing, and how quickly Bonds decided to join the Giants when he could. But he was never the sort of human being you could warm up to (long prior to any mood changes from any substances). But he has friends, in his private life. Humans are complicated beings.
In the end, I decided just to sit back and enjoy the awesome batting prowess on the side of the Black and Orange. But no doubt it is easier for me to pull, enthusiastically, for Matt and Joe and Buster and Timmy and Vogey (love that dude) and Hunter and co. since Bonds left the team.
You guys are just proving my point, thanks !
Might want to look at Clark’s numbers in 1992 and 1993, he got old fast, has last great full season in MLB was 1991, had a few good partial season s but he was never the same after 1991 .
Significant back issues, right? His numbers in his final season with Baltimore were really good, right?
More so with St. Louis in 2000, hitting nearly .350 with power in McGuire’s absence, helping them get to the postseason. My dad (just before his passing) and I were so glad to see Will back in the NL where he belonged! We never did and never will like the AL!
No, it was a partial year, he was traded to the Cardinals, his last year with Texas was very good, .305 ,23 HRs, 102 RBIs .
When you have a favorite player, it’s about more than the just the numbers. I felt Will was still an important contributor to a contending team. He and Barry together in ’93 was an absolute joy to watch, especially in a torrid September pennant race I’ll never forget, truly the last great race because of no WC. That the Giants’ brass didn’t want to continue that angered me so greatly I couldn’t support them any longer, and it did take Barry being gone for me to come back!
Amen, Pastoral Brother.
I guess you’d rather have Aaron Hill with his .134 batting average and the range of a cactus. Nobody thinks KT is anything but what he is–a solid bench/utility player. The point is that our idiot GM and manager preferred Hill for months. It’s not the only problem with this team by a long shot, but it’s a symptom of the horrible decision-making Evans and Bochy have done over the past 12 months.
John Myhill. Sincere, and a few others think KT should start .
And sometimes, he should–as a backup to give Panik or Crawford a day off. Backups needt ABs and reps so they’re ready to pinch-hit (which KT is good at) or fill in. KT’s got a speed game, too, and the Giants have very little of that. Nunez is a great base runner, but he keeps getting hurt, and Span isn’t a base stealer anymore.
Keep Hwang. Let’s give him a long run. He supplies pop as back up infielder. Kelby supplies speed. Both can play SS. Combined, nice IF depth. With Hwang’s pop, and history of OBP, he could win 3B outright as well.
I heard Ryder Jones on interview with Marty. He is so steeped in baseball because of his father the coach. IIRC, Jones was committed to Stanford before signing. He deserves a good run too. There could be a middle of order hitter in there and it’s all starting to come together this year at what, age 23?
Yep. Hwang and Kelby sound more appealing at this point than Hill and Gillaspie, for sure. Hwang has a lot of personality and can bring good energy, and he’s a seasoned pro hitter. Whether he can handle the hot corner defensively–well, we’ll see. I assume that’s Nunez’s job until he’s traded, and there’s Jones and Arroyo behind them, anyway.
Ryder Jones was the first kid in ten years to de-commit from Stanford, but the point is he got in there, meaning he’s got to be smart. He’s a nice-looking player, built like someone who’s going to hit for power.
Do you think it is a little bit too soon for Jones? I would be thinking about keeping the experienced Hwang and letting Jones have a bit more time at AAA, when Nunez is ready again. But it is kind of a competition now, and I like that Bochy is getting both of them into the same game somehow.
For sure. Jones can stand to use plenty more AAA experience. As do Arroyo and Shaw and Duggar, when he’s ready to move on from SJ.
The 2019 Giant outfield is going to be it’s strength, Slater in RF, Shaw in LF, Reynolds are Duggar in CF, with Quinn, and Jones others fighting for playing time .
Heliot Ramos is sure off to an amazing start in the Rookie League. He said he plans to be in the big leagues in three years. I saw that his older brother Henry is on the Dodgers’ AAA team.
I was honestly a bit surprised how quickly they promoted Jones. Arroyo, too. Slater’s different because he’s a college player and he spent two months in AAA last year. I guess it won’t hurt Jones and Arroyo to have a taste of The Show at a young age. I hope not, anyway.
Nor, for that matter, for Slania to have taken an inning in the bigs. It shows them what they are gunning for.
That was kind of fun. Slania did a nice job and looked really happy. How many debuts this year?–Arroyo, Jones, Slater, Crick, Hwang, Slania?–Plus Moronta got to be in the house for a day, too.
I’m trying to figure out why Gillaspie fell back out of favor with some of you. Is it that you just want “new” at every chance? He’s had very few at bats and is injured, but did more to will this team into and through some playoffs last season than anyone.
Hwang is fine. KT is fine. But this immediate “dump Gillaspie” thing truly doesn’t make sense…out of sight, out of mind? What, exactly?
She and others never liked him, mainly for his defense, quite a few on this blog go over board over defense .
Good point.
Credit where it’s due–Gillaspie’s defense at 3B improved a lot last year. He hasn’t contributed much at all this year, though. Don’t know if that’s all due to his back, or what. But at this point I’d rather see what Hwang can due with a chance. Gillaspie’s injured, anyway, so there you have it.
But you’ve now decided those injuries mean he’s done? Or are you just talking short term?
No, I don’t think I said that, did I? “Hwang and Kelby sound more appealing than Hill and Gillaspie.” Hwang basically IS Gillaspie except that he hits right-handed (and Jones hits left-handed and can play the OF, too). They have the same positional limitations. And I’d rather have Kelby than Gillaspie if I had to choose because of his speed and defensive versatility.
But yeah, when Gillaspie’s healthy, I’d guess they’d bring him back, right? They’re paying him actual money. Unfortunately for him, this season has become more about looking at young guys for the future. On a team that’s contending, there’s a better argument for him over a youngster like Jones or a flyer like Hwang.
Welcome home Doc. Miss the place?
I’m already cranky that I’m not drinking my morning coffee on my balcony overlooking the surf. It was a great trip. I’m happy to see the dog, though.
I think Gillaspie gets way too much run from TWG for basically 2 or 3 hits. Everybody likes to slam Bochy for loyalty, but the Gillaspie love on here is puzzling.
I didn’t “get” Gillaspie for most of last season, but he ended up being a useful bench player on a contending team, and the truth is they don’t make the playoffs or win the wild card game without him after Nunez went down with a week to go in the regular season.
Travis Ishikawa didn’t get any extra rope after his 2014 heroics. Gillaspie seems to be in the same boat this year.
Mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooose
First, it’s not “basically 2 or 3 hits”. But, for me, I push back on the dismissive attitude folks have about whether he even deserves a role.
He’s David West. He’s Dennis Franz. He’s Chris Tierney: he’s a solid non-starting player who CAN fill right in to start when needed. He is vastly improved in the field. He is a professional hitter with a great approach. He’s that guy that other fan bases are reasonably afraid of/annoyed by.
He isn’t a star. He won’t be a long term solution. But, like a Blaco, Arias, etc.
Let Conor Smoke ( line drives)
I don’t have a problem with Gillaspie, really, but he hasn’t had much of a year, has he?–Injured several times, not productive when he was playing. Hard to really see him in the picture when he’s never there. He deserved the first shot out of spring after his late-season heroics, though. It was Hill over KT that really fried me and still does.
It drove me nuts when he made the team.
I would like to see us give those ABs to Hwang and Jones, as we look to the future of backup/platoon IF. Conor had a solid year in 2016, but he’s been injured so much this year I doubt he will ever be what he was last year.
We turned on Kobe and Blanco the same way.
And Presto!
It’s like he’s growing into his tall, strong frame. His physical prime a few years away. May be ideal platoon partner with Posey at first when Posey works 50:50 with some young protege behind the plate.
I suspect that quite a few folks will be disgruntled when they look at who is left after 7-31 or on the ST roster next year. We either have contracts that effectively rule out moving many players or we have players who have more value here than they would bring in trade.
It would be kind of exciting to really rebuild, if you have several years to hang out and complain about who we got for Belt, etc..This team- AS IS, will be better than the “rebuilt” version will be.
Seem like a .500 peak perfomance team going forward.
As most know, it’s not always only by merit that roster decisions are made. Kelby is still in danger of going back to AAA. That is not MY value judgement, it’s about the options game- which does have it’s positives, BTW.
I know – sss – but Ryder really looks over-matched.
Is it more or less offensive to call someone an idiot than gently kidding some ballplayer about his slight build?
Look at the Giants’ performance over the last twelve months. Do you think it shows great intelligence on the part of the GM and the manager? This team has collapsed at an epic level, and no one should be immune from criticism.
You didn’t answer the question. They are obviously not idiots.
They are obviously not making great decisions, either. Call it what you like.
I’d call it hypocrisy.
Whatever. I’ve noticed that the only thing you do here is criticize other commenters. Do you ever have an original thought or contribution of your own?
Calling somebody an idiot isn’t criticism, and you know that better than anybody.
OK, I’ll rephrase without name-calling. Bobby Evans and Bruce Bochy have done their jobs poorly over the last 12 months. The Giants’ record–from best in MLB to second-worst–demonstrates this. We can all point to a number of specific roster, lineup, and in-game decisions that are examples. Aaron Hill getting so much run this year–or any run at all–is one example of many. The 13 different guys who’ve played left field between April 2-July 1 is another example.
Thatta girl
True, but “idiot” does seem a bit harsh, IMHO.
I rephrased below. I’m as happy as the rest of you that the Giants are on a winning streak–now that they cleared out some deadwood and the River Cats are playing–but that doesn’t change the fact that the team is hopelessly out of contention and it’s not even the All-Star break yet. And I think Evans and Bochy bear a lot of responsibility for that, with their Gorkys/Hill/Morse/Marrero/Stubbs/Ruggiano/etc. decisions over the past couple months.
Do not let the high brow holy ones, get to you, the sensitive and PC crowd is strong on this blog .
“Gorkys/Hill/Morse/Marrero/Stubbs/Ruggiano/etc.” – seeing all these failures in one noun-string is quite shocking.
I’m starting to wonder what’s happening with Jarrett Parker. He’s been playing for the R’Cats nearly two weeks now (hitting .242). What are they going to do when he’s ready to come back? I don’t see Slater getting benched, unless he goes into a massive slump right about now.
Slater appears to be a sleeper. Don’t see how they could bench him for Parker now.
Agreed.
It really does seem like 12 months. We were still giddy about 40-15 then. What has happened? Larry Baer probably knows best.
Will Wally Pipp weigh in?
Na na na na, hey hey hey…

Boom. Done. Edited 🙂
Footy typing “Arroyo” just now makes me wonder if anyone knows how he is doing. Lefty typed that he got hit on the same batting hand last night, but I don’t know about damage. Anyone?
Schulman just tweeted that the team suspects his hand is broken.
t/y. Dang it!
Aaarrrgh!!!! That’s a minimum of 4-6 weeks DL. Two months left in the MiLB season, he could be done for the year. Let’s hope he heals and gets back for at least a couple of weeks at the end of the season.
Yep, terrible luck for the kid. He needed those AAA ABs to be ready for next year.
Winter ball ahead.
1. Denard Span (L) CF
2. Joe Panik (L) 2B
3. Hunter Pence (R) RF
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
7. Jae-Gyun Hwang (R) 3B
8. Austin Slater (R) LF
9. Jeff Samardzija (R)
Surprised Posey is playing today, but day off tomorrow , I think Slater should bat 5th are 6th, and Crawford is in a bad slump, maybe bat him 8th for a while .
Craw certainly is slumping and looks frustrated. I think he needs the ASB to get away from baseball for a few days.
Not that it really matters, but Slater continuing to hit 8th is an odd choice. He’s been on the team for weeks now and Hwang for just days, and Hwang’s hitting ahead of him?
8th isn’t the punishment people on here think it is. Bochy has had great success by having guys hit 8th that have better pop than the two slots above. Crawford’s earlier years are the best example.
Plus, certain guys are better expand-the-zone hitters, which is a critical skill at the 8 with the pitcher behind them. I see Slater as that guy.
So, for me, it’s a calculated strategic decision by Bochy, not a punishment/banishment
He has 7 RBI and a OPS of 1.555 batting 7th, and a .417 average batting 5th .
I’d say the most important factor right now is what gives Slater the best developmental experience and confidence for the future. If batting eighth is it, fine. But if he keeps going well, it would be nice to see what he could do a little higher in the order.
I feel that being asked to handle 8th is a bit of a complement, actually. Slater has been able to extend innings such that the pitcher make the 3rd out, and he’s provided a bat behind the even greener Jones. And he’s probably getting settled in there.
He’ll move up in the order, sometimes he already has. Nothing to worry about.
Can I turn the Aaron Hill discussion into a different direction?
Right when he was released, I read he was being paid $2 million for 2017. It suddenly explained a lot about why he was on the team so long. Could it be that someone in the front office didn’t want to admit a poorly judged signing? In which case, the common blog theme “Bruce Bochy’s veteran love” had absolutely nothing to do with Hill being around so long?
Great point, and we can’t know how much the FO makes decisions to milk what they can out of investments.
“Being around so long”–yes, someone else’s decision. But just two weeks or so ago, with Panik missing a few days and then Nunez, Hill, hitting under .150, got all the replacement starts, with Kelby on the roster. That’s all on Bochy. He kept giving Hill starts until practically the day he was DFA’d.
true enough, Kelby had too much “pine time”.
good thing Rollins was cut or he’d be playing everyday
Wassup Vintage?!
Tell me you thoughts on Span these days. Don’t matter how much he hits, he’s still a ____ (as you put it)?
Youre trying to get me going? Hes hitting but thats not what bothers me about this guy he’s always missing gms for one reason or another i can’t stand guys like that and yes he is a vagina!
I was just trying to get to the bottom of it. My conclusion is that he’s not “Vintage” enough for you, if you know what I mean.
LOLOLOL
If I can make you laugh, my day is complete. Have a good one.
Mo must have a new lady, Time well spent I guess?
Beautiful mexican woman ive been seeing for awhile now but she lives in Monterey and im getting tired of driving up to see her!
Im very unlucky i always seem to fall for the woman who lives 200, 300 miles away from me shit!
Funny
I would call that driving DOWN to see her…
Good point
Rollins – The OG “Vintageblak”!
Hill played poor defense, Notice the ARZ never moved him from one spot but SF did.
The .150 did not bother me as he had a tendency to hit the ball hard.
What is Nunez’s status? He was due to come back from the DL on Friday.
I saw on Twitter that he’s joining AA Richmond while the team’s on the East Coast to get some reps.
He played for Richmond on Friday. 1 for 3.
Thanks. Bochy just now said that on his pre-game show, will be back with the Giants on Tuesday in Detroit.
So the AAA rotation is a bit decimated right now with Stratton called up and Gregorio suspended. There’s Beede, Andrew Suarez, and…lots of fill-ins. Wonder if someone in AA gets a promotion. Coonrod? Gage?
Uggggghhhh, Arroyo has a broken finger. Out until September.
Oh, boyo (couldn’t resist that).
Very bad news for the kid’s development. Complicates the team’s decisions about Nunez and Hwang and Gillaspie, too.
Silver lining that it opens up PT rest of season for Hwang and Jones. That’s a nice platoon after Nunez gets traded.
If.
IFs and Butts about it.
But….Jones may be injured as well?

Notice the attendance, I was lucky. My dad dragged my mom to the game.
We stayed the distance.
I was mesmerized.
McCovey won it in the 9th with a HR inside the foul pole but it was ruled foul.
I remember listening to that game on a transistor radio and falling asleep by the 15th inning. You will never ever again see two pitchers like that battle it out.
If I recall, tomorrow is the anniversary of my dad dragging me and the ladies to the Stick for a DH in which Tony Cloninger hit two Grand Smas in game one…after the 17-3 final in game 1, Mom insisted we leave.
We never brought Mom again.
I was there too. Joe Torre was the catcher for the Braves.
In the edited immortal words of Toby Keith: I Love This Blog
One of my strongest memories, which are faint, is the smell of cigar smoke that hovered throughout the stadium.
Where’s that Giant axe-wielding Pirate, Sincere?
Listened to your Cubano Rhapsody Innuendos, my friend, Yes, yes I did.
Cool man. Felt like I was at a street festival. Loved the horns and the cheery vibe. And I was just waiting for you to open it up. Send me something where you “open it up”!
Hey buddy…yes, I have been feeling the word “festive” for that song, and everybody, including those who played on it, feel it is very street festival as well. Excellent assessment.
As far as “opening it up,” there are some tracks that certainly have more lead guitar, but only if the song calls for it. I never liked soloing for soloing’s sake (wanking). But if the song needs a grand slam guitar solo, I’m always ready to step up to the musical plate.
I will send more new music as we get closer to final mixdown. There’s 9 more to finish, so there will be plenty to discuss.
My band played last night, and we owned “Time.” I played the solo note for freaking note. That is one of the most melodic, gorgeous, perfect solos ever created, and I love playing it so much.

Today’s game is MLB-TV Game of the Day. Free for out of market fans w/o MLB-TV. I think the current price for the balance of the year is $20.17. Good deal.
Let’s have it, Shark.
After two four hour plus games in this series, everybody has to be hoping for a tidy 2-2 1/2 hour game. Not that anyone is excited about a day off in Detroit, even if it is Independence Day weekend. There’s always the casinos across the Canadian border.
Pence is having a few more vintage Hunter Pence moments. We need that.
Hunter Pence making some defensive plays this series. He knows he was bad out there for awhile; seems to be getting better reads and jumps. Coaching input, one would assume.
test
I’d like to see the shift outlawed with two simple rules:
At the time pitcher releases the ball;
1. SS and 3B must be positioned to the left of second base and 2B and 1B must be positioned to the right;
2. All infielders must be positioned within the border between the IF and OF.
Belt agrees.
Joe Panik in the #2 slot. What a concept!
