Five Questions
- Do National League teams have a bigger home field advantage over A.L. teams in inter-league play?
- Who holds the Giants record for slugging percentage at .863 in a single season?
- Should the Giants promote Chris Shaw?
- What does the future hold for Eduardo Nunez?
- Does Matt Cain belong on the Giants Wall of Fame?
Though ClutchUp shared information with us about Cum Posey, my college years were more familiar with risky situations involving Cum Panik
Matt Cain does not belong on the Wall of Fame. He had a nice career and helped them win, but never won more than 16 games, won 14 or more only only twice, overall had a losing record and pretty much sucked during his last four seasons with the team. He can go on the Wall of the Guys Who Had Some Good Seasons.
I will purchase your ticket as he will be on the Wall.
So you discount a Perfect Game. LOL. OK.
Why bother? You know his game.
He’s still trying get his decoder ring back in play, and winging it until he does. I had thought TO actually analyzed the assertions he made, and thought them through, but it seems not. Sad.
He analyzes them for maximum reaction, and then claims the posted absurdity to be detached and calmly posited opinion.
Yes, Matthew. You’ve figured it out. It’s because you’re so important to me. Getting your reaction means so much to me that I forego stating my own opinions, which of course agree with yours. After all, no one could really disagree with you without having an ulterior motive.
We’re all important to you. It’s why you’re here, to be part of a community. It’s the love/hate overlay that dogs you. You want the stage like any performer, you just seem to want your audience to be unhappy.
Brilliant analysis, but can you please explain how someone else’s opinion is important enough to make you unhappy?
What you want vs what you get are discernibly different. Why voice an opinion aimed at troubling someone else in a community ought to be your Socratic duty, not how does it work or not.
It’s very hard for you to clearly state anything, isn’t it?
No, you’re a buzzkill freak. Am I just to suppose to call you a name if you’re provocative enough, so you can regurgitate the name later, absent the provocation, as you did with Matty.
Your daughters are getting a full bore image of what daddy is like during other aspects of life. LOL
Good. Thanks
He’s one of the most famous SF Giants of all time. You can argue stats, but his run of 8 outstanding years with All Star ERA+ levels, solid WHIP and large inning counts makes him one of the best. Throw in the postseason performance and his fame is deserved
All time? You don’t have much of a sense of history.
Good for you … you got your insult in. Now, how many SF Giants pitchers would say had a better 8 year run?
Having never looked at the Wall of Fame, I didn’t realize what the standard was. If Hammaker is on there, Cain absolutely should be.
It has a fairly easy set of rules, which are well specified. Getting into an ASG shortens the total tenure required. Cain is in on the rules alone, even if you discount that perfect game.
Matt Cain certainly belongs on the wall of fame. No matter how flat the last few years have been, he’s contributed to championships, and has the only perfect game in the long and storied history of the Giants. He was a stalwart, deserving the “Horse” sobriquet, and a long time player representative. He’s shown himself capable of a 5 or perhaps 6 inning outing this year, with the Giants in a reasonable position to win. As is typical, there was no complaint when sent to the bullpen, and now here he is again, with a chance to start against the Indians. #18 is a fave of mine.
Five Questions
1.Do National League teams have a bigger home field advantage over A.L. teams in inter-league play?
• Yes
2. Who holds the Giants record for slugging percentage at .863 in a single season?
* Bonds
3.Should the Giants promote Chris Shaw?
* In September
4.What does the future hold for Eduardo Nunez?
* He is a Red Sock to be
5.Does Matt Cain belong on the Giants Wall of Fame?
* Yes
I like you ‘*’ by Bonds name.
Re:#1 Unless Moore is pitching (and hitting).
1. Yes, unless you routinely walk the AL pitcher.
2. Not a clue, so I pick Willie McCovey.
3. Why if they continue to play the veterans?
4 I expect he will be gone by the end of the month. Houston or Boston. And he will be missed.
5.Definitely. Sr. Perfecto, with an image of Gregor Blanco diving in the background.
A great day to be at the park! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/801c5866df22eeb259d8c8a63bc3712ac4b22bcdf46530be27a9123f6d8f8ea9.jpg
Jealous, jealous again…
First game I’ve gotten to all year.
Doesn’t Matt Cain automatically qualify for The Wall? Something like 10 years in the cream O&B, All-Star, WS ring, 7 figure contract. Aren’t those the automatic qualifiers? I forget, or never knew.
Don’t forget the Zero earned runs and 3-0 record in the march through the playoffs and WS in 2010. Just studly…
Or:
Does Matt Cain belong on The Wall, taking the black…

5. He’s a lock with 3 all star appearances. Just need 1 (and 5 yrs). That’s why Atlee Hammaker is there.
1) a big advantage, yes
2) i’d be surprised if it were not BB25
3) sure, give the kid a taste
4) noonie? the middle of an Al pennant race
5) cainer? great, great giant. absolutely
Know any frustrated Yankee fans in your neighborhood? Just talking with Yankee fan Marcie downstairs. She was shaking her head – great, what’s the point of the new bullpen arms if they can’t take a lead late into the game with their bum starters.
most of my friends are yankee fans, and they’re all idiots. they know nothing about the nat’l league, and very little about other AL teams, or players. they’re all spoiled, and if the yanks aren’t in contention, they wait for football. when i told my friend i still watch every inning of every game he couldn’t believe it. are they frustrated? i couldn’t give a rat’s ass. i hope they lose every game for the rest of the season. i know, how do i really feel!
I’m nice to Marcie. But you know me, I’m nice to the nice.
you’re just like me. i treat every new person i meet with respect. if they are nice to me, i’m nice to them, and so on..
You’re miles ahead of me, I can tell 🙂
steve k is one of the good guys – think back to the nice story about his adopted dog, the one before Kuiper. I used to know someone who said you can always tell if a person is good by observing how they treat their animals. It is truth.
Good to know. The gates of heaven may open for me after all. I’ve got lots of animals and am nicer to them than people.
thank you ST. you’re a real gentleman yourself, and it’s an honor for me to call you a friend. it’s no surprise that we’re both big fans of JP12, as fine a young man as you’ll find on our team.
4. Nunez will be traded then re-signed for too many yrs/dollars. ;(
The K’in Cain
So far, so good. 2-seam is sweet today.
Answer to number 2 above is Barry Lamar Bombs!
#1- apparently not as the AL has an overall 2,730 – 2,434 won/loss record vs the NL
Bochy had a good line on the pregame. Miller asked him what Nunez was doing last night when he nearly came to a stop rounding third base. Bochy said “I think he was trying to put another stent in me.”
Nevin was ready also…
Nice at bat for MyGuy De_Nard
Now THAT’S a leadoff at bat, Grady
Whoa. Gomez took a pitch
Rib Eye it was NOT
This line up is barf inducing!!
Do you use your index finger to begin the procedure?
Belt’s popup means the wrist is still painful. A DP means it would have been 1-0.
Stuck at 44 rib eyes. Will the wrist prevent him from eclipsing 20 long balls? Stuck at 16 .
I sniff a Crawford RIB EYE – Sac Fly right here
You got to love Brandon Belt
His Momma does most likely
If you don’t, someone is going to waive his statistics in your face and say “shame on you”.
It is annoying how people use actual events to point things out
I know it. All we need are metrics to validate or correct our opinions and assumptions!
As if they were impressive stats?
He has nice metrics on offense and really good ones on defense,
but he still rubs a lot of people the wrong way. I guess I’m one of them.
He’s not our kind of hitter for a 1B/supposed middle of order hitter.
We must be old school or something 🙂
He’d be the perfect six or seven hitter in a great lineup with Thumpers
In this line up his Bat does not play well at all
Amen to that
Belt’s ISO ahead of Upton, Encarnacion, Abreu, Puig…What fictional lineup has 5 or 6 hitters who are bigger “thumpers”?
Com’on Craw!
Team RBI leader in spite of crappy #’s
Bochy starts the runner …. classic NL baseball
The kid Gomez looks like he has hit pretty well in the minors through his DOSL to AA ball. Hope he keeps it up in the bigs. That would make Joe P. another trade chip.
Kelby ought to have fun with the GLARE in Left Field today …
Santana riffed on that line drive double
That was a tremendous Triples Alley play by MyGorkster
Your about 15 seconds ahead of the internet broadcast
It’s how I roll.
We’ve been looking for a new CFer. By jove, you may have found him!
TO is taking notes so that when he goes to Giants Fantasy Camp… he can ‘Be Like Gorks’.
Gork played that about as well as you could in triples alley
Nice job Cainer, earn that starting spot over the crappy lefty on the team.
Decent play to get Gorky’s
Cain Fame update: No. 3 all time SF Giants pitcher in WAR; No. 6 in WHIP, even after all of the bad seasons, No. 6 ERA+, and of course higher if we count only the run of 8 years … so on it goes. Is that enough to say he’s an all-time SF GIants pitcher? What stats do you want? Opinions may vary
Stats and opinions, shall ever the twain meet?
In the sane twain.
Cain was a stud in the 2010 playoffs allowing Zero earned runs in the march to the first Series Championship in SF. Timmy may have been the Rock Star but Cainer was the stud that year
He could have won a lot more games with better run support.
Your between inning trade rumor segment brought to you by Glade – when you’ve done something nasty, try Glade.

Walking Zimmer is no big deal BUT walking a NON-hitting AL pitcher is gonna lead to some Splainin to do.
My goodness at 23 years old Lindor is a super star already…who has no sense of a 3-0 count with P in trouble.
Effort from BB9 courtesy of MLBSF – A
Gorkys throw B-
That leaves a bruise on an 0-2 pitch off the plate.
Slow motion play where they couldn’t get the pitcher turns into 3 runs because Cain throws a batting practice pitch. And so it goes … it often seems so easy for the opponents to score and the Giants make the least of so many opportunities.
The last base hit was off a pitch that Cain threw OFF the plate to get the aggressive hitter to fish but instead he guided it into the OF for two RBI’s …
That assertion is unsupported by the facts. Visually the pitch was grooved. The pitch was charted down the middle at the top of the strike zone.
The pitch he threw was not a BP pitch.
Wotus and Muelens throw BP. There top Velo is 76mph
💩.
OJ may not get out after-all. He was doing naughty stuff in his cell when a female officer was walking by.

Well at least I reduced the infraction to something naughty …
In his prime, Matt Cain was a pretty decent hitting pitcher. Knock him in!
Best pitch in baseball = the changeup
Can Miggy Gomez play LF?
1. Yes because NL pitchers hit every game and strategy is more complex than with AL DH.
2. Barry Bonds
3. Soon but not yet, later in 2017.
4. Druthers is super utility with Giants but will likely be traded soon.
5. No. Today’s game would be meaningful if a young pitcher was given the start.
Not sure you answered question number 5.
No to Wall of Fame, close but not all the way there career. If so, because of WSs. The other was an aside about Cain’s reprieve from bullpen.
Peter Magowan created the SF Giants Wall of Fame requirements
http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com/sf/ballpark/attractions/index.jsp?content=wall_fame
2008 marked the 50th anniversary of the Giants’ move to San Francisco. As part of the golden anniversary, in September 23, 2008, 43 Giants were inaugurated into the San Francisco Giants Wall of Fame — a living tribute to our greatest players. The Giants Wall of Fame recognizes retired players whose records stand highest among their teammates on the basis of longevity and achievements. Those honored have played a minimum of nine seasons for the San Francisco Giants, or five seasons with at least one All-Star selection as a Giant.
Matt Cain makes the minimum requirements but is there a requirement that all players making the minimum requirements go to the Wall of Fame?
Probably not, however with Marvin Bernard on the Wall – so will be Matt Cain 😉
Agree with Cain if Bernard.
SMILY Conor flashing the leather.

It’s a beautiful challenging Pebble Beach of a baseball park. I love it, myself.
OK
KELBY Kelby Kelby – no thank you
Steal 2nd and 3rd now
RBI’s are hard to come by on 0 and 0 counts
Well, Kelby followed my instructions. MyGorkster didn’t
Was that supposed to be like a suicide squeeze?
Well, a “contact play”, meaning go on contact…Kelby changed the description of contact
With one out the runner at third goes on contact about 98% of the time.
#MurphysLawSucksIn2017
Span the man!
Span with some impressive ABs this afternoon
Dang, .791 OPS, that’s hitterish – and well above Pence.
I suppose those two could be a platoon in a corner next year – Pence the weak part of the platoon.
Knowing Bochy, Span will be a staple at the top of the lineup. No platoon.
You’re probably right. Gorkys will be the best ohter option in CF. The CFers in the minors not quite ready until late ’18 and 19.
Gomez – like everyone has acknowledged – has some Pablo in his swings.
Close to Bullpen activity…..
Are they sure that isn’t a MattCain bobblehead in a Charlie Brown shirt?
Nobody makes that play better than Belt and Crawford.
Kudos to Cain for all out hustle (PFP’s)
Maybe all the Cain is Dunn talk was premature.
I’m thinking there is a clause in his contract that would price him out of a return. Isn’t it $8M just to say adios?
Atlanta Braves next season
Matt’s contract for 2018 specifies $21M club option ($7.5M buyout). I love him, but 21 million smackers is indeed an awful lot. Feels strange, but even the “adios” amount is more pesos that you’d probably want to pay him.
What happens with a buyout? The Gs pay him $7.5 and he is a free agent? If he wants to play, he’ll find a place.
It seems strange to think you’d pay 7.5 million for someone to pitch for someone else, doesn’t it? But I think that’s how it works, someone else might only chip in a million or two.
But my best guess is Matt wants to retire as a Giant. Not many guys play for only one team anymore.
A very wealthy retired Giant.
This reminds me of TOs argument about our emotional attachments to players. We want all our WS heroes to retire as Giants. I don’t think that is realistic.
I think this is one of Cain’s better starts this season. Not sure what happened in the third, but he’s been in control pretty much the whole game.
Cagy veteran. He pitches with his brains as much as his arm these days. Bochy left him in one inning too long in his last start, but he usually has the Giants ahead or behind by only about one run. We have a chance at this game!
Crawls35 is feeling his swing back.
Conor is HUNTING an RBI location mistake pitch
GREAT AB for Mr. Smiley
Hundley ——> hit the ball DEEP enough into the OF (rather than roll over to 3B)
Get the ball in the air Kelby.
Kelby is pissed at himself. He will not let this 2nd opportunity go by without ‘doing his job’.
Kick me sign pending.

Just checked the A’s game — Oakland ahead 5-2 and Sonny Gray has the worst looking beard I ever saw.
Posey’s neck beard appreciates your oversight
Kontos has allowed a run to score in 5 of his past 6 outings. I’m just saying
He’s like a gong show contestant.
…with a blog chock full of Chuck Barris’s
.. and a paper bag…
Nolan Arenado is 5 for 5 with 3HRs and 7RBIs. And that game is still in the 7th inning.
KANGAROO COURT FOR KELBY
brain fart.
Kelby having a very bad day
Standing out there going over his at bats.
He didn’t have Crawford reminding him how many outs.
Hey Kelby — want to get away?
POTD
Keep it up and he will
Kontos is the charcoal underwear to Kelby’s fart.
Well done
That visual didn’t need to happen.
Not a strike
Have to admit that Boone Logan is a cool MLB name.
Would also make a legendary mountain man.
Good thing he grew up to be a big burly guy, otherwise it would be ridiculous
Sounds like a cheap wine.
I hate those screw off caps!
Yeah, I forgot about Boone Farms
Pagan Pink. Ugh.
From my Gallo legacy, Baby.
I hope you washed up when you left. I once had a tragic experience between Red Mountain Burgundy and a wall.
Noonie causing more stent work for Bochy
Something about knives in drawers comes to mind.
Nunez must have caught whatever Kelby had.
Augie the first base coach before every situation like that says loudly to the base runner “Do Not Let the Infielder Tag You Out “….
There goes that whole trade idea with Boston.
If it’s true, then Nunez is some kind of stupid or just doesn’t care.
Yes and no.
In that order.
Double plays, base running gaffes–would be nice to win a series here, guys.
Don’t deserve it.
Since the Oakland debacle – they got “Tito” back – they are on a Mission.
We win this series, build some momentum for the 4-gamer vs. the Padres. #dontfinishlast
“He’s been throwing the ball well….
…to Hector Sanchez”
Remember when TWG was “Osich is terrible! We want Okert!!!”
Relief pitchers psychi is a delicate place
LOL, you should apply for diplomatic status.
WOW, this team is punishing the baseball thrown by Osich,
Jon Miller’s Exit Velocity Meter just started smoking and spinning out of control
Okert not fooling anybody. Sure do miss Will Smith…
LOL. You’ll be sorry.
Nope. He’s gonna be good for us next year. You watch.
Good throw gets him. Crap.
Should’ve been a double play
His arm be like…https://youtu.be/U5Kd3fcMDUM
ANOTHER noodle arm throw by Span takes us out of an inning ending DP.
But the fact that they were hitting and running actually set it up so the throw is a fait accompli.
Pie, I beg to differ, not noodle.
It’s been really hard this season for the Giants to play 2 good games in a row
They have a hard time with one in a row.
If I was the professional player with sur-name Almonte I would have been pressed to use another of my 3-4 family names after the infamous Danny Almonte Little League disgrace. Of course ADULTS were behind the entire matter.

Sniper ??? Shades of Dave Dravecky ?
Reminded me of that…. this looked like a shoulder. AC joint?
That looks serious. Hope he’s not out for the year.
It FEELS like the Indians have a 35 man roster…
CrawDaddy is a hard ass competitor.
If Buster continues to not be a vocal mouthpiece in the clubhouse then I pity some of those guys who Crawford would not mind reaming.

Bad hop…Belt would have been crushed on here.

Buster not pinch hitting here?
TO said Buster had some severe sun burn
No, it was a rash for shaving his neck beard too close
Try to win THIS game Boch.
Remember Hundley would KILL us when with Padres/Rockies
Uggla used to kill us too.
Easy, Bob…Hundley’s an upgrade on the roster to last season. Bruce saving Buster for the 9th…EDIT …now!
Killed us because he chose to wear #22
Shaw must be a Juan fan like me
SMH
Tough pitch to hit with he 11 miles per hour differentiation
Not on the strikeout. On pinch hitting Buster with 2 outs
Huh???
for using Buster off the bench with 2 outs instead of using bringing him up in Hundley’s spot.
Delete Time
Buster saved his ass
Huh????
Huh?!
Saved Bochy
Let’s recap:
Hundley- legit hitter with history in such situations
Kelby – wearing his “Overwhelmed” T Shirt today
I applaud you for first guessing, but Bruce did just fine.
Easy to sound smart in hindsight. That was the wrong decision by Boch. Buster just saved him.
MmmKay.
The Hoona Rules:
IF Bochy’s move works – the player saved his ass.
If Bochy’s move doesn’t work – it’s his fault.
So. In summary. It’s Bochy’s fault.
Insane
Maybe I spoke too soon, but I didn’t see you commenting on my post questioning Bochy’s decision to not PH for Hundley below. Everyone was thinking the same thing, don’t try to deny it
In all honesty, I was NOT, and if you read my posts, you’ll know that. Hundley was fine as is. Kelby was a wobbly jello mold today
See below what I said to Bleacher Bob , by the way
Dumbass Bochy
@A$$HoleBochy
Classic case of player turning manager into a genius. Credit goes to Buster not Boch.
That rabbit hole got deep fast
WELL …….
But, we hit those with our Nintendo joysticks, Coach!
THAT IS WHY
Thank you Buster
Buster be bashin’! 🙂
I remember that guy.
The. Great. Buster. Posey. Atta babe.
RBI machine
BUSTER!!
Dyson back to back after throwing two innings last night (17 pitches) ???
In the pen as we speak.
Let’s see if Gorky adds on…
Last Call Gearrin?
He can handle it. Closers on this team are well rested.
LOL
Dyson
Dyson is probably the best trading chip the Giants have right now.
2018 means they cannot
Please explain
Ok ——–> they are not moving him because of the unknown severity of Melancon’s injury
relief pitchers are very marketable in late July.
You’re too kind
The Giants will have a very good understanding of the state of Melancon’s arm for 2018 – Dyson might be expendable?
If I were the Giants, I’d hold on to Dyson.
A dumpster diving acquisition. Funny how this season plays out.
So Belt to LF and Buster to 1B? Seems there’s no other option with our three OF roster. Pence to RF and Gorkys to LF an option as well.
Love his mound demeanor
Success improves demeanor observations!
Funny how that works
Got a little angry nasty in him.
Nice PICK in the dirt by Crawdaddy
My gosh. Huge.
Dyson’s mound demeanor under reconsideration by GSDubs
So is mine
Right where we want them
*Took one for the team * Perfectly legal in the Major Leagues
Dyson has some Brian Wilson in his DNA
…and beard to match
That’s some scary DNA.
Santiago Dyson
An emotional yo-yo.
This felt like a classic Jeff Brantley
Buster is Dysons security blanket. I really wish he was behind the plate. The angry nasty Dyson now has a vote of no confidence.
Having flash backs to Moonman
Blown saves have a very intense affect on us all… just get this out.
A ball that moves that much …. and yet he’s corner hunting.
Inhale
I gave my asshole neighbors tix to this game. I hope they’re enjoying a good game.
Dyson’s face is pretty easy to read right now
No, none confidence
You should try your luck at the poker tables at Lucky Chances.
He may have gotten through it nearly unscathed, but he had lost his confidence.
Umpire calls strike 2 that was farther outside than ball 2.
Exhale
Now that was fun
Did we just win a series?
Wait, what?
Dyson carries on the tradition of Minton Wilson Casilla…
What a win. Bochy didn’t expect them to win today but Buster changed that narrative. Confidence booster for the ballclub, now let’s try to get MadBum his 1st win tomorrow
C’mon, Hoona. That’s absurd…I’m hoping this is just hyperbole. Bruce had a plan, which was to pinch hit Buster for Kelby. He had the parts to do it. Go ahead and be frustrated by a tough season, but throwaway lines that the manager didn’t expect them to win is silly.
Your a beastie boy, Matthew.
Fight For Your Right!
Sure, we can agree to disagree. In the end, they won so it doesn’t matter. Buster bailed him out. End of story.
Like this Dyson guy. Guts.
Testicular fortitude.
Huddy would agree! 🙂
Bumgarners?
Wwhheeeeeeeeeww!!!!
thanks for that 2nd strike ump.
Generous. No doubt.
Five runs, and they win!!
Bottom line: great win.
That’s a first place team the Giants just beat 2 out of 3. They are ready for the playoffs!
But seriously, rough roadie for the Tribe, dropping 5 of 6 in the Bay. Just a half game up on the Twinkies. It’s like the AL version of the Cubs. How about that? World Series hangover.
Cubs have opened up the second half with 6 straight wins. No 2 games back of the Brewers
no mystery dude. A great deal of the Indian’s fall off is the pitching.
Don’t look now, or do, but Buster gaining on Belt in the RBI department – just 4 back. Remember when Buster had just 11 RBI’s as late as May 29th? Up to 40. #clutchpedaltothemetal
Buster’s April and May were weird. He had a BA like Ty Cobb but bupkis with RISP. That was a trend that was bound to die sooner or later.
I dunno, Petey and someone else around here were pretty adamant that Buster had just forgot how to clutch. It was pretty obviously fluky, but some still get conned by baseball.
What star doesn’t go through an anomalous period? It doesn’t define their whole career but it also doesn’t mean we shouldn’t notice it.
gee maybe Nunez and Span hitting a little better at the top had something to do with that?
Amazing how baseball works right??!?!
Have you looked at the total number of times (or %) he batted with runners aboard?
Yes. I did that exercise recently.
Giants play 13 of their next 20 at home, with the only roadies the three game set in LA (7/28-7/30)
and then two in Oakland. Let’s get out of last place and play some better baseball. GIANTS!!
They did it today with 5 AAA guys and Cain. Baseball is maddeningly unpredictable.
And at the same time, the Dodgers, Cubs, Nationals, Red Sox, Indians, and Astros will likely all win their divisions, which some might say was predictable given payrolls and roster talent etc.
Baseball is much more predictable on a large sample size. Short term moves in baseball resemble the seeming randomness of the stock market.
Short term, fuhgeddabout it.
The Giants held at 29 games back. Onwards tomorrow for the march towards 50 games back.

Word is his beard is pathetic.
Shocking Gs to sign Pablo
THIS IS NOT A DRILL, FOLKS.
Why does this not surprise me? Next thing you know, they’ll sign Pat Burrell, Huff, Cody, and Andres Torres. Reunion 2010 anyone?
And Timmy!!!!
No, this is nonsense. Does anyone think he’s MLB game ready, or could be within the next 2-3 weeks? His hitting measurables have been awful for going on three years…I’m shocked the Giants are even considering this.
WTF
what happened?
Panda’s coming back.
wow!
I had figured that 3rd base was Arroyos next year.
It probably still is. But this week, Arroyo’s injured, Nunez is likely to be traded, so…Pablo.
I realize that but then were would Pablo play next year? Why get him for the last 3 months of a bad season? Why not let Hwang show what he has?
I assume he’s a free agent after this season–they’re signing him to a minor league deal. I don’t really get the point, either.
Reminds me of Jake Elwood in the Blues Brothers: we’re putting the band back together. Un-F*******-Believable. Comedy gold.
I hope you’re having a better day today, Pablo news withstanding.
thank you 🙂 I avoided the bus today and got a new battery installed tonight. I think I’m back in business for now.
Ryan just reminded me. I read what happened to you yesterday. You were targeted in an awful and scary way. I’m very sorry. Did you decide to report what happened?
Thanks! No, I didn’t bother reporting. I just wanted to get as far away from them as possible. People like them thrive on reaction and attention. This kind of stuff is common, and the police wouldn’t be able to do much anyway. It feels like there’s no consequences to doing anything horrible in this city. At the worst, it’s just a slap on the wrist. I’ve had worse things happen to me on public transit anyway, but it was just quite disconcerting and the rotten cherry on top of a long bad day.
I’m so sorry this happened to you on public transit, and that this has happened before. I’m upset and mad for your sake. I’m glad you arrived home safely.
Well, given their situation, the history, and considering their recent pursuit of Morse Rollins Hill etc… it shouldn’t be a big shock they would take a flyer on Sandoval.
I told everyone a few days ago that Pablo would be signed by the Giants.
And I was not wrong as usual.
Now for Belt to be dealt and life will be good.
If this turns out to be true (and it has not been confirmed yet), this is bad. Which doesn’t mean good.
I know Schulman’s saying “not confirmed,” but Heyman’s saying he’s flying to SF for a physical and then reporting to Sacramento. That sounds pretty specific. And my game tickets next week in Sac just got a lot more interesting. Our seats are right by 3B!
do you still have your Panda hat?
Never had one. I do have a small stuffed panda with a Pablo jersey, though. Had to fight off the dog, who really wanted to play with it. (And her version of “play with” toys means “kill them dead in 10 minutes.”)
hahah just imagined a panda head hanging by a few threads from the body.
That’s pretty much how my Lab rolls.
Alex and Andrew can’t confirm yet either. Alex talked to several guys in the clubhouse last week. They don’t want him back. Bochy said, “Pablo will be fine. He’s got enough to live on.” Why would the Giants bring Pablo back after what he did and said in his last year, on the way out the door, and after he trashed the team in his initial interviews in Boston? And to top it off, he got bad at baseball since he left. Why Giants? Why?
Sentimentality. Senility. Stupidity. Shit-faced. Your guess is as good as mine.
I’m out of guesses. Your four S’s work for me. I wonder what Buster Posey thinks. Did the Giants even ask him?
Exactly. None of the players want him here. This is nutz.
That’s an unsubstantiated theory.
First of all not many players on the current team even played with Pablo.
And players don’t control who stays or goes, so yeah….there’s that.
Because these are desperate times, and I personally don’t know first hand that they players don’t want him back. Is anyone quoted?
Off the record. Alex doesn’t make things up.
I would imagine the front office thinks it’s worth the flyer. I mean, what’s the downside? Further into last place?
Pablo flipped the Giants off and trashed teammates on his way out the door. He’s a divisive figure, all 300 pounds of him.
I understand people’s aggravation at this.
Here is also what I know: this team won with “divisive” players that performed. I hear stories of Pagan and his 2 rings he contributed to. I hear that Pablo upset teammates out the door with his 3 rings, 2 of which he greatly contributed to. Aubrey Huff. Whoever.
It’s a risk. I’m not sure how big. This team shit the bed for a full calendar year. Obviously, big changes are needed. Let’s see what plays out.
he was a problem from the moment they signed him — he required near constant attention to keep him in some kind of game shape – so he’s got 3 rings — so what — they would have won 10-12-14 without him IMHO – i see NO upside to bringing him back – he burned bridges
I get it. He’s far from the first, and won’t be the last, problem child whose athletic talent affords him chances others wouldn’t get.
In the end, it’s two things : business ( the sell out streak is over) and winning. This team is arguably the worst team in baseball, yet with a top 4 payroll. If fans wNt to be pissed at this devision, they should be pissed at the performances that led to this moment
a cellar dweller who STILL outsells seats in most markets hardly needs this problem child – I agree with whomever said it below — did anyone bother to consult capt posey on this ? they don’t need pablo to put butts in the seats when 31K are already sold to season tix holders and they still have Bum
In my fantasy world, they did. And he said ” we’re in last place, and we aren’t hitting a lick. We’re big boys. Let’s give it a shot”
I’m with you. I don’t get the point.
I’m mad. I’m sad. I’m sad for the team and what they’re going to have to tolerate with this jerk walking back into their clubhouse. I don’t care how desperate you are Giants’ management, where’s your sense of self respect?
Finally got themselves a 3B.
Hank Schulman seems to have confirmed.
sandoval minor league deal confirmed – I have to say that given the way he left SF, his complete disregard for physical conditioning and apparently his interest in a real MLB career — well, I see NO upside in his return….NONE ! guess Baer et al are now in the grasping @ straws biz : (
My sentiments exactly. Can’t believe the Giants are enabling this Baby Huey.
1) Pablo is back becuase baseball is a business, and the Giants are about making money, either tix sales or selling hats, whatever fans gobble up.
2) As Oracle or Matthew pointed out a few days ago, hitters don’t just forget how to hit. Whatever is the issue with Pablo, mental, physical. the hitter is still there.
3) He’s cheap. If it doesn’t work out, no big deal.
4) Pablo is not a full time 3B anymore, he at best would be a LH platoon player.
5) if Belt is dealt this season, he is more than capable of playing 1B in a platoon basis till the end of the year.
I will be unpopular on this, but I’m OK with this…and I assume the clubhouse will welcome him back. Your points are spot on, and I believe this gives signs that either Belt and/or Nunez are being shopped heavily
Red Sox are after Nunez. Sort of a swap
This deal may transpire any minute now…
What about moving on? What about not blocking someone else?
Who? Are ANY of the prospects so can’t-miss that a low cost flyer shouldn’t be taken? If Arroyo or Hwang grabs the job by the scruff, they’ll get the job.
What’s the flyer for? To not be the worst team in baseball?
6) he’s gonna help Sacramento.
Don’t accuse me. I didn’t say anything positive about Sandoval.
Kap has more left than Pablo
heck of a lot more and he’s in damn good shape !
Wonderful he can play outfield? If I recall, he was a star baseball player as a teen.
Andrew Baggarly has confirmed.
??? confirmed what?
The Giants are bringing back Pablo.
Eeewwww
If it isn’t a fairy tale, it ought to be with the caveat, NO MICHAEL.
As if the Giants can control Sandoval’s entourage.
Well, if they can”t control his presence around the team and all its facilities, they’re idiots.
They can’t control his presence around the buffet line.
I would rather see Hope Sandoval (she’d be an awesome ball girl) in a Giants uniform than Pablo.
Lame PR move to fill the seats.
With Pablo being signed, I think this has to be considered the most backward, upside down season in GIants history.
Way to liven up the blog Bobby Evans!!! But tell me, Bo-Evs, what is your handle?
Bobby Evans’ handle: #Pablo cheaper this time around
Don’t the BoSox still have to pay him what they owe him?
Evans secret plan, get Sandoval cost free.
It makes him very easy to fire this way.
Good point.
Yes, so the Giants are getting him back on the cheap.
But at a great cost.
To taste and credibility.
But as BoBoEvans might say, ‘It’s the Christian thing to do.”
To team cohesion. To third base prospects. To coaches who will have to start babysitting him all over again.
And the Giants still have to pay Matt Cain 7.5 mil next year.
Yep. Next two years they pay him an additional $49MM, less the veteran minimum which his next team will pay. I really hope that’s not us.
There really is something hilarious about the Red Sox paying Pablo to play for the Giants, though. Especially since, according to Baggs, the Giants front office believes that Big Papi and others were tampering in 2014 before Pablo was a free agent.
The Bay Area is madness. And not just the traffic and total absence of affordable housing. The A’s brought back Chris Carter.
X-file day in the Bay.
Growing up here, I don’t remember a lot of rude and inconsiderate folks. It’s every person for themselves and no one knows how to say “excuse/pardon me” these days.
And that is my rant of the day. Imagine if the Giants had lost today. I’d be ranting more about the base running.
If Nunez is to be traded, we still have half a season to give Gomez and Hwang time at 3rd, and arroyo again when he comes off the DL. I really hope Sandoval doesn’t take playing time from any of them.
This also solidifies to me Bobby Evans doesn’t know what he is doing.. SMH
Sabean and Baer took the steering wheel recently
Whoa, that’s even more curious.
If that’s the case then this is about trying to get fans back and to get rid of the excess panda hats they prob just found in their wearhouse
Damn ! That’s it. It’s the damned hats.!
It probably cost more to get rid of them then to re sign Pablo
It shouldn’t have cost them anything.
Oh, that’s right! The Giants can dig the Panda hats out of storage! Follow the money!
He really doesn’t give a jack about team chemistry at all.
Except (as I said below) Bobby’s a Christian forgiver of the first order.
The deal doesn’t get done without Sabean Baer Bochy giving the thumbs up.
Bochy loves the guy, Baer wants seats filled, don’t understand what sabean gains with this.
He’ll be going to AAA and they will see how he looks and how motivated he is. Could be after a month they pull the plug. But this shouldn’t have any bearing on what they do with Belt. That’s crazy. They aren’t counting on anything from Pablo at this point.
When does Angel Pagan get here?
Hmmm, that’s a little Oracle of you!
…but I admit that I snickered.
And Aubrey? Oh, Golly, maybe Guillen and , wait for it, Eugenio Velez?
I’ll never forget Velez getting hit with a foul ball while in the dugout hallway.
ditto afeldt — didn’t it know him back down the stairs ??? it was a play off game i think too
Jeremy had an excuse. Eugenio was just dumb as a stump with not enough “cents” to pay attention.
The last game in Cincinnati in 2012. He actually was the pitcher of record at the time and had to come out of the game, leading to Romo’s gritty save featuring the epic battle with Jay Bruce.
that was one of my all time favorite pitching sequences — well that and the fastball ol’ Serg threw at Cabrera in DET after that dose of sliders
he’s on the timmy train
What about Brandon Hicks! I saw a replay two nights ago on broadcast of him hitting a HR. We need power! 😂
Before Freddy Sanchez comes back from limbo.
Kruk, Kuip, Dave, and Miller tomorrow broadcast like https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/673cd5d28d24f0e9b4cc68214a3bb5af51c755cf48b65c0f523f91849b65c19a.jpg
I have alternate Sandoval reactions, depending upon their intent:
1. They did it because Sandoval will help sell a few more tickets while simultaneously aiding their quest for the highest draft pick possible…brilliant;
Or
2. They just can’t accept that the window has closed on this group and they need to focus on acquiring and promoting younger talent. Instead, they believe in fairies, the Easter Bunny and Pablo Sandoval…uh oh
We all need to step back and ask ourselves a few questions:
This franchise has been on a serious roll. Rolling in the money, the accolades. Owners, administration, management and players alike. But, concentrate on the owners and CEO. They ponied up huge money after the wins, and the exoectations were that performances would match their output.
What happened? 12 months of huge and constant failure. High paid players underperforming. GM moves that didn’t work. A manager that looks disconnected to his “new” GM….but worse, fans are losing interest.
Baer, Sabean, Evans and Bochy asses are on the line as well. So, they are in ” we gotta do something” mode. Because nothing is working. Nothing. It’s no longer ” confluence of events” can be used as an excuse. It’s ” start making changes.”
Pablo is a tiny change. Taking a chance. It’s no longer about “we all need to get along in this lovely clubhouse” . What has that done over the last 170?? They’re shaking things up. The first move just got made. It’s not a huge deal
I haven’t seen a recent photo, so I don’t know how much Panda we just purchased for MLB peanuts. And I have no idea what he might have told the team, but I do think everyone deserves a 2nd chance, then 3rd, … But I am worried about the team’s attitude, so I certainly hope they had a chat with Crawford and Posey and Pence about this move.
I’m thinking they did.
Last I saw him, he is thinner. But he’s Oprah.
And, additionally, what has their wonderful attitude got them since last July?
Right. If their attitude gets worse, they might lose 110 games instead of 105?
I just read Pavlovic’s story, which doesn’t indicate there’s much enthusiasm among the players for Sandoval’s return.
And I have had a while to remember Clutch Up often speculating that there was something wrong with Sandoval’s eyesight at the end of his Giants tenure.
It may well be that Sandoval doesn’t ever make it out of Sacramento?
Baseball sure is strange, I went away after the win, and came back to find Pandamonium going on.
Cute.
Instead of giving 30 year olds extended contracts in the millions after a win (when you know the last two years will go down hill) just give them better incentives if they win a championship. Rathwr than a 4 year 80$ deal to where they are underperforming 35 year olds
It’s against the players union to allow a team to give a player an incentive, based around a TEAM wins a championship.
It’s really not a huge deal. It costs them no money. Chances are he never makes it to SF, and if he does, that’s good news, right? He’s not blocking anyone with Arroyo out for a couple months. And as for the clubhouse? Yeah, whatever.
Does Pablo’s fat ass actually want to play in that sweltering Sac weather?
Well, he’s from Venezuela, so…
That’s when he didn’t have the millions.
We were out there last night–it was actually perfect weather.
stop fat shaming
Come on, Lefty. You know he’s going to be back in San Francisco in a couple of weeks, or sooner.
If they trade Nunez, sure. What’s stopping him, Conor Gillaspie? Hwang’s below the Mendoza line.
Not if he can’t hit, field or run. The reports out of Boston were he was useless.
Nothing more than “Ballast for a team cruise.”
Sandoval goes 2-15 in Sacramento and gets called up. Bochy: “He’s a proven hitter, so I’m not concerned.”
Good idea…another highly paid and underperforming player.
The difference, and it’s a big one, is he’s not highly paid by the Giants.
True, but what’s most relevant is his lack of character and professionalism, which is what led directly to him being the poster boy for highly paid and underperforming.
LOL. Yes Reverend.
Interesting pivot.
Hey, by the way, the guy you say knows no more than anyone else, and “used to be Davenport’s neighbor” but isn’t connected? That guy? He knew this before it was announced, texted me well before any announcement and made me promise silence.
Yup, connected. In several ways that are true and legit (I have other examples, but I live by a code) Lay off that riff.
Thanks for the suggestion. It would help if you could provide a complete list of what I am and am not allowed to say.
He’s not highly paid by SF, now is he?
1-Can he play at this level. Is he going to be the LH Morse we were hoping for.
2-Is this a desperate move for some PR or memory lane reason.
3-What is the company’s line on why they picked him up.
4-Does it add up.
5-We need an intense youth movement and this seems to go against the grain.
6-Sacramento have an attendance issue?
7-Your points are legit. But the move reaffirms my helplessness in all of this.
I still think it’s all the old hats.
They probably think this signing is similar to the Dyson move in that it’s low-risk, high-reward. And it is, since Boston’s paying for his services.
But really, it’s too early. He JUST got cut. BoSox just released him what, last week? I wonder if he’s even had time to reflect.
Second, it’s a waste of time. He’s not part of our future. I repeat, he’s NOT our third baseman for the future. It’s not worth the organization’s resources and time to motivate this guy to stay in shape for his own sake.
Actually, it happened the time frame that DFA’s occur. And, you know that the executives started this discussion the moment he got DFA’d last week.
What makes you think they see this as the 3rd baseman of the future?
Why is everyone acting like it’s the end of the world? They signed a DFA’d 30 year old. What part of “San Francisco Giants” makes this a surprise?
What exactly are the organization’s motives (in making a move like this)? Are they turning to the future or still trying to relish in past accomplishments? Because I’m getting mixed signals from them this season.
They are a last place team with a first place payroll that is thriwing low risk shit against the wall. I don’t think Pablo is part of a master plan…he’s part of a year of utter disaster leading to trying anything.
I’m not rooting for his failure just to be proven right that this was a wrong move to make.
I would like to see him play well but I’m also worried, if he returns to form or show any signs of life, that the FO will push aside their priorities of addressing the team’s needs for a legitimate power bat in the middle of the order.
I guess just the fact that I’m having these doubts shows how much my faith in Evans has bottomed out.
I have very little faith in FO at present. I do not trust them to make trades that actually help the team.
The FO and minor league system are what need to be rebuilt with a sound plan and one or more sound personalities under 50 to lead the changes.
Salacious and totally made up rumor from Tokyo is that the Giants are kicking tires on Casey Mcghee.
I thought Alex’s musing about Sam Dyson was interesting–that the front office is so thrilled that they got him for nothing that they’re willing to go to that well again.
Of course, Sam Dyson has zero baggage in SF–just a nice recommendation from Buster Posey, who caught him in the WBC.
My point about the DFA thing is, I question if he even has any sense of remorse over what went wrong in Boston. He’s still as immature as ever and if this remarriage is ever going to work, it’s just not going to pan out in this losing environment.
It isn’t a huge deal bit it is big enough to hurt their credibility.
Their record is a much bigger hit to their credibilty
Yes. This. That Cleveland piece, fuming that the Indians just lost 5 out of 6 to “two garbage teams” including the “San Francisco fucking Giants,” hurt my heart. It’s deserved. I get that. But it’s brutal to see how our beloved team is viewed now.
Potty Mouth
Bwahahaha, Indians Nation isn’t happy about their squad’s visit to the Bay Area.
This douchey post reminds me that Indians fans are also Cavaliers fans, most likely.
I like the Indians team, but the idea of their fans being frustrated makes me very happy.
https://www.letsgotribe.com/2017/7/19/16001212/lets-all-be-angry-about-the-indians-together-in-this-post
At least we’re calm
They blew two games with errors.
And we blew one. Without Moore’s error, it might have been a sweep.
When you commit key errors and lose two of three to the second worst team in baseball, you’re going to hear it from the fans.
They also got swept by the A’s over the weekend. So they lost 5 out of 6 in the Bay.
Ball hit a pebble
Ball changed direction
No error
They became Cavs fans when LeBron came back and Indians fans last year during their World Series run. Many probably don’t know who Jose Mesa is.
Pablo just responded to reports by saying “he will make decision Friday there are multiple teams interested”
Idk any team foolish enough besides the Giants to sign him.
Too true!
It will all come down to team Chefs. Who has the best spread, that will do it.
The Giants have a great chef. He used to be the chef at Boulevard, which is a really good SF restaurant, and Barry Zito head-hunted him. His name is Joe Day.
I was there years ago. Shortly after it opened. Nice place.
Yep, right off the Embarcadero, not too far from the park. We’ve been there a couple times too, but not for years.
In appreciation for great decisions like bringing back Morse and wanting to bring back Sandoval, I send this one out to Giants’ management:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nvUOgIgLqOQ
He could throw that speed ball by ya, make ya look like a fool.
#TOisButtHurtBecauseThingsHeLikesAreUnravellingUponHim
If you haven’t seen Alex’s piece on Sandoval, it’s worth a read. Lots of insider comments about how the players felt last weekend when asked about the rumors.
Assuming Alex’s reporting is solid, and it has the ring of truth (for example, the players would like to see Hwang and Jones get a look and keep the spot warm for Arroyo), it sounds like the brass are doing this in spite of how the players might feel, Bochy, too.
Guess losing a lot means you don’t get listened to as much. Rough.
http://www.csnbayarea.com/giants/why-are-giants-reportedly-gambling-pablo-sandoval-reunion
desperate times and all that. desperation also leads to missteps.
Of course not, the players aren’t paid to make team decisions.
Friendships don’t dictate team decisions.
If they were winning or even in contention, you bet it would matter.
hahahha “winning or even in contention’ should not be mentioned about the Giants.
Pable has been an AS and has hit very well in this league, a few things any of the guys being mentioned as being hurt by this (Arroyo, Hwang, etc.) have ever accumulated.
That being said, I think he would be a 1B platoon option if / when Belt is dealt. Not a 3B regular.
Nobody’s being hurt by anything. Arroyo’s out for two months with an injury. Hwang is more of a flyer than Pablo is, considering Pablo has a track record of major league success.
I don’t even see why he couldn’t play 3B if he’s fit and healthy. He was decent there in his thinner years with the Giants, even a Gold Glove finalist in 2011 and 2014. Wotus is very good at working with the infielders. I’m sure Pablo doesn’t want to be washed up at 30. He’ll put forth the effort, trying to showcase himself for other teams next year.
If we add Hwang, Jones and Arroyo together, we got us a .300 hitter!
Joking, but…..at this point, maybe the boys need to look in the mirror and realize their influence is 3 games behind the Padres
Yep.
Too bad about Hwang. He is one of MyGuys but it looks like that error while playing first base,, lack of playing, and his lack of hitting has put him on a one way ticket to Sacramento soon.
The signing of Sandoval is a surprise.
I was especially fond of Sandoval but found the Panda and off field stuff as irritating.
The only downside is blocking other players.
Does Pablo have the physical skills to be a 3B any more?
As far as signing past their prime vets, Pablo has more upside than other recent similar attempts to take spent vets from the dumpster,
Sandoval did not leave the Giants in a class manner.
I hope the Giants do not see as Sandoval replacing Belt or keeping Arroyo off 3B or replacing Nunez in any manner.
Could be interesting. The Giants have a good record of former players coming back for good play (not always of initial quality but workman-like): Examples: McCormick, Vogelsong, McCovey, Gillaspie
Butts in the seat rule, not cute nickname rule.
Sounds more like Lawrence Baer wanted to find a way to start a new sellout crowd record with this.
While the Dodgers run away with the division. Giants resign another past his prime player. The orginization is in a tail spin!!!
We all need to step, sit, stand, lie down, run, walk in whichever direction we please, and have whichever monologue, meditation, or outward reaction we please. Our prerogative is ours and ours alone. That is all, that is my sermon from the mount.
Mount this!
do what ya gotta do!
Amen!
This team has had all year to turn it around. They have been a dumpster fire since last year.
Break up the band!!!
I have no problem with the Sandoval move. It’s minimum risk, high reward. I don’t think he’s burned bridges quite the way everyone else does. The bottom line is it’s about winning. And it’s not entirely coincidental that the Giants reign of glory essentially mirrored Pablo’s. Yes, they won in spite of him in 2010. But look what he did in 2012 and 2014. While he left on sour terms IMO he’s an all time type Giant. He’s still young enough to have something left in his career. And if he doesn’t then nothing really lost. I will be rooting hard for a comeback no matter how unlikely.
With you.
Oh, Ye of short memories….
Full memory. Last place team, and sinking. Shake this shit UP.
Don’t be a sissy. This is just a little bump.
This may be the worst season in the history of the Giants franchise, one year after they made the playoffs. It’s more than a little bump.
OK, it’s a bump in the night.
good take!
Well, that would be quite the “trade” if it happens – Sandoval for Nunez. One of those full circle things. Very Lion King-ish. Where’s Matt Duffy when you really need him?
Hakuna Matata!
Oh those Giants…never a dull moment.
So the Giants won today! Two straight comeback late-inning wins! At this point, I’m just happy when they play a competitive, entertaining game.
I was in the car for most of it, fighting traffic back from the Bay Area, so I heard the game but didn’t see it. How did Cain look? Sounds like he was pretty good for five out of six innings? That’s four quality starts in the last five games, and tomorrow’s Bumgarner again (nice to have that to look forward to). What about Dyson? Was he tired from his two innings last night?
Steve Okert sounds like a dumpster fire right now. He’s MyGuy™, just like Moore. The one guy who was having a good year is out for the season (Slater).
Also, Beede had a very good start today–7 innings, 1 run, 1 BB, 5 Ks. Two good ones in a row now.
big pinch hit by Buster, too. Two in a row feels pritttttty good.
Have you seen Wynton Bernard play CF this year?
Sounded like Kelby had a rough day. When Steven Okert was ranked by some as the #7 prospect, I was like, I dunnnnnnnnnoooooooo, that’s pretty high for a loogy dude that is kind of hit and miss.
CJ with two more hits today. First month, back from injury, he hit .222. In June he hit .315.
So far this month, he’s batting a very warm .404 with 3 HRs in 57 ABs.
Saw Bernard pinch-hitting last night but not in CF. The OF was Mac in right, Parker in CF, Shaw in left.
A middle of the order with Parker, Shaw, Mac, and Jones has some entertainment value. Add Pablo, and it should be fun. These days I’m also interested in seeing Rogers, Law, and Snelten in the bullpen, and of course Beede and the Suarez bros–less so Gage or Stratton.
I drove from the SFO area to Pinole in the two o’clock hour…and the three o’clock hour…and in to the four o’clock hour. I can’t believe the number of people driving around between two and three, what a logjam on 101 and 80.
Time to move to the country. I’ll join your team if you move nearby.
Thanks Rye, my country is north though, not south, otherwise I’d take you up on that offer.
BTW, I’ve got some serious guys on my team. Three live in Sac and play in the East Bay league on Saturdays and the Sac league on Sundays and one night a week. My wife old not put up with that.
OMG, I drove from Davis to my mom’s house in San Rafael, near the Northgate Mall. It took me two hours each way. On a Wednesday in July and not during commute hours (10-12 there, 2-4 returning). There was an accident in Vacaville on the way back, but other than that, all the stop-and-go stuff was either “normal” bottlenecks on 37 and/or road work that had lanes closed. It was BRUTAL. I had to take a nap when I got home because I was so tired and stressed out.
Take Uber
Maybe Cain has something left in the tank. (I didn’t see today’s game either.) Perhaps he can pitch somewhere next year, if not here.
Cain looked in command with his pitches except the one 0-2 – two RBI pitch
does anyone have an update on Duffy with TB ? wonder if he was with the team in OAK this week – I know he is on the 60day but I haven’t been able to locate info on his long term post surgery prognosis. still miss that guy oh and his little cat too…..
He may be done for the season, but there are reports he wants to play this season.
As per rotoworld.com:
“Matt Duffy (Achilles) is expected to resume baseball activities during the Rays’ next homestand that begins on July 21.”
thanks !
Peachy (who keeps close track of Skeeter’s owner) posted a report a couple of weeks ago, about shaving some bone deposits, with the goal of stopping irritation of that Achilles. Sorry, I don’t remember quite enough to try to google up the report she had.
thank you !
I saw an article today–I think it was on NBCS-BA–about Duffy. He has a dog, a rescue. Skeeter’s with his parents and getting old. He’s hoping to be back on the field in August.
I would welcome that young man back. There was something very special about him.
thx Doctor — cute article – here’s the link in case anyone wants to read about the new doggie Dakota + looks like he is trying to come back in August this year – fingers crossed for him – I still think the Gs brought some very bad mojo on themselves when they traded him and I completely recognize how nuts that sounds : )

Looks like the Giants are the Chicago Blackhawks of MLB: trying to recapture their championship days by resigning (possibly) done players that have helped them in the past. The only difference between the Hawks players and Pablo is that the Hawks players didn’t talk crap about the Hawks as they walked out the door.
Awesome hockey analogy skills. Any correlation of the Dodgers to the Gretsky/Robataille/McSorley Kings?
I was too young to remember the Gretzky-Robataille-McSorley seasons, but I’m more familiar with the Kopitar, Dustin Brown, Doughty teams. Dodgers are to bums like Kings are to goons.
They never won. So far, so good
Article about Sandoval to Giants from ESPH that quotes Bochy:
“I loved the way he played,” Bochy said. “He had so much enthusiasm, and that got infectious in that dugout. And of course, what he did for us on that field … a young guy that needed some help, so we all tried to do our part to make him a better player.
“A great guy to have on the club. A hard worker, a quick learner.”

It’s difficult to re capture magic. That’s why it’s called magic. Comes and goes on its own. But I do believe in miracles.
Where were you in Feb, 1980?
That I will have to do some research on. But I’m sure it was cold.
I bet it was!
Feb 22 to be exact
Ah. The Miracle on Ice. The gooogler is an amazing tool.
Isn’t it though
And it’s equally scary.
I’m still bothered by Ken Dryden talking over the play when Eruzione scored the eventual winner…
I was in El Camino Hospital in Cupertino the day after reconstructive surgery on left shoulder.
Evans/Baer butts in the seats until we can fix this mess protocol.
Anyone still doubt that he will soon be on the 25 man?
If he can outplay Hwang, sure.
There are no ifs.
It’s nice to get a series win! And I never imagined that I’d see Bochy give his post-game interview while sitting on the throne. ; )

Will he suffer the same fate as Ol Ned?
Ha-ha, he joked that people who sit in that throne get offed.
That is a nice change from the stinking throne BB has been sitting in since the 2016 all star break.
Hey, throughout world history, there have probably been a lot of important decisions made while sitting on the throne.
Fans will get a chance to sit on that throne tomorrow night!
Larrys first priority is to restore butts in the seats. And if that means a PR sizzler or a memory lane stunt, so be it. Are people going to be doing cartwheels to the ticket window to see Pablo? Don’t know. But it seems bringing up the pond fish to get them a taste would make more sense, and if the fans can see an honest effort to get this derailment back on the track, they will fill the seats. This move has an awkward feel to it. Every thing was coming back together so well until Slater got hurt.
Not sure who said it on Happy Hour, but I hope it isn’t just because of that storeroom full of unsold Panda Hats.
Why does that not sound surprising.
If you’re not a Dodgers fan, this is an awful time of the season.
i’m not worried…unless this is the post season.
I’ve seen nearly every Dodgers game recently. This team is doing everything – and doing it right. Regardless of allegiance, it’s really amazing to witness this caliber of play on a daily basis. They’re just blowing teams away. In fact the only team that has played decently against them is our very own SFGiants.
Well, it is July after all!
I want the Giants to end up with the highest draft pick possible, but I don’t actively root against individual players. I will, however, be rooting against Sandoval and hoping for his failure.
In other words, you DO actively root against individual players.
Ha. He’s some fan. Not.
Would you root for anyone as long as they were wearing a Giants’ uniform?
No. I had a very hard time with Aaron Hill this year, based on no history with the team to cancel his lack of baseball skills. While Hunter Strickland has really hurt his team this year, and I definitely want to see him traded away, I do want him to be successful when he’s sent to the mound (just hopefully not many more times). That’s a root for the uniform thing. I am nonplussed by the Pablo Sandoval signing. There’s a part of me that hopes he never makes it out of Sacramento.
Have done since 1958.
#TOTryingToDoDamageControl
Starting now I do.
You root against the Giants by Osmosis because you only root for Crawford.
#MoreBrainDeadBaseballIQFromtheOracle
Considering he’s already reached levels of success that most ballplayers never see, I’m sure you’ll show him by taking this bold stand rooting for his failure.
I’m not showing him anything. I expressed my opinion about him.
I don’t see an opinion there. I see a faux-noble stand on a topic you’ve tirelessly commented on many times since Sandoval was DFA. You care that people know this stance, or else you wouldn’t have posted so many times about him (which has literally been whenever anyone has brought up his name).
What’s noble about it, or faux-noble? It’s baseball. I’m a Giants fan, albeit in a different way than most here, and I don’t like that they signed the guy. And until today, I don’t think I’ve commented on him playing for the Giants again, since I didn’t know it was going to happen.
You went out of your way to boldly state that you’ve NEVER rooted for a player to fail before, but that you were taking a stand and THIS TIME was different. Your long history of always rooting for success, erased by one man. Why this would be news to the group, I am not sure. And if you don’t think you’ve commented on his playing for SF again, you should check your post history from the last week+. You’ll be surprised.
So like Jed York the evil son, by not rooting for the 49ers after Jed dumped hacksaw Harbs you cannot either root for the Giants to do well if Sandoval is anywhere around.

All these losses and now we gotta take Pablo back? Man this year just keeps getting worse.
We’re punching air. Hard to describe. Pissin up a rope? One step forward, two steps back? Chasing rainbows? It’s like the losing is one thing, and the perplexities are even worse.
Now I keep hearing reports that the Giants haven’t resigned Sandoval but he’ll decide by Friday who he wants to sign with.
Pavlovic made a good point on the Happy Hour segment that a lot of players were displeased with the way Sanodval left the team including what he said about this organization and that he would only miss Pence and Bochy. This decision must be only Larry and the owners, and Larry’s nudging Bobby to put more butts in the seats and sell the remaining Panda hats they have in storage behind Section 334. I think it’s disrespectful to the players from the 2014 team that are still in the clubhouse that Larry and Bobby didn’t ask the players their thoughts on this possibility. On the other hand, Larry and owners pay the checks.
Pavlovic made another good point that Bochy could have had a say in this decision, but it’s telling if he would rather have a bad Sandoval rather than a healthy and better Gillaspie, Nunez and Hwang at third.

Hey, how about that? I guess they weren’t quite ready to take him aboard their plane out.
https://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN/status/887845942153670658
Maybe a scouting report said that on flights, he tends to man-spread, takes up 3 seats. They’ll tell him to catch a flight on his own to wherever they are in a few days.
Pablo signed a minor league contract with the Giants
