Greek Giant
Matt Moore failed his audition for the River Cats starting rotation, pitching very well last night and winning for the first time as a Giant since… I can’t remember. He pitched 7 strong innings allowing only 3 runs with a strong fastball. The seven game losing streak is over. The Braves played keystone cops defense but make no mistake, Austin Slater hit a huge three run homer to put the Giants up 3-2 in the top of the 8th in what was a close and tense game at the time.
Brandon Belt added a moonshot in the top of the ninth and Mark Melancon pitched a clean inning for a bounce-back save.
The Giants won one in a row, perhaps the first victory in a 22 game winning streak?
Breckeroni sez…Happy Birthday, Peaches!
Indeed! Celebrate, Peachy!
I hope I’ll have reason to celebrate after tonight’s game!
Will toss ya an orange if they don’t
Dude, I loved this! Brit Floyd rocks!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRnQ65J02XA
I saw your post about the show, brother. My buddy Todd from back in the day, he was a huge Floyd fan, and “The Final Cut” was his fave album. But I gotta tell ya, “One of These Days” must have been epic. I was on a walk the other day and played it 3 times in a row I was so pumped.
It was fabulous – they had a giant inflatable pig bouncing off to the side for that one. Dude was doing major justice on his lap steel work! As was above too!
Fun videos before the show started, trippy man- heard some Grantchester Meadows
Wow…impressive set list. The “Animals” album for me is officially an obsession. I can’t play it enough right now.
“You’re nearly a laugh but you’re really a cry.”
Matthew is still is denial, but gotta admit that I’m a little bit confused …
DSOTM has some holy grailish things going on. Us and them – who composed that saxophone? Who is ultimately responsible for The Great Gig in the sky?
They played the Eclipse finale – the lunatic is on the grass and they did the video montage of all our favorite leaders: Maggie, Ronnie, Georgie, Billie, Donnie…
Great Gig may be their finest composition. It resonates within me in such a complex way. I played this version about 3 times the other day as well. This is the best live version. The final vocalist? My gawd…Jaw dropping.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VGlQKcq7k0
I saw Pink Floyd twice.
The first time was at Fillmore West in 1970 and was the better show.
The 2nd time was at the Cow Palace (just south of San Francisco) with King Crimson in 1975; Darkside of the Moon was played in its entirety but the overall show was somewhat a disappointment.
We had gotten in line then night before to get good positions for festival seating so were exhausted and probably too worn down to have taken trendy chemical amusement aids just before the concert started. The sound was not good, part the Cow Place and part they were having technical issues and crowd was restless. The female vocal part of the Great Gig in the Sky was on tape with no live vocalist, very disappointing. Lots of technical embellishments to the degree distracting like a rocket or airplane crashing on the stage. I think was one of the first NA stops on the tour. The Pink Floyd concert spectaculars to come still had some bugs.
Still I have always remained a fan of Floyd.
And I think it’s Richard Wright who composed that. It is piano-heavy. But many say Waters wrote all the music on Dark Side. I think this is Wright’s gem, however.
The Wall. Best. Concert. Ever. Multiple flying props, lasers, video/visuals, nothing will ever come close. I remember at the end of the show, most of the audience was glued to their seats. In awe of what just happened.
February 7, 1980. LA Sports Arena.
whoa – you were there?! Jealous!!
Serious props for sharing that.
Thanks darling!
Even the earth decided to shimmy and shake here in celebration of today 😀
Getting ready to head to the yard for Giants/Braves tonight. I’m excited! Feels a bit like it did when I was 11-12, and I was constantly asking “is it time to leave yet?”
My buddy and I will arrive early and check out The Battery, the restaurants/shops area behind RF. Lots of great late lunch/early dinner options. Plenty of beer, too!
Rain all through the area this week. Tonight and tomorrow shows 60-75% chance of rain at game time, but the Braves ground crew is very good at tarp management, and the field is in very good shape.
Peachy commented on Monday about how green the grass looks. Indeed. All this rain, our front yard is more green and lush than it’s ever been.
Let’s get the win tonight, behind the Shark! GIANTS!!
Have Fun TF! Send us photos please.
Will do!
Happy Birthday Peaches – I’m sure this is what you’ve always wanted.
Shine on you crazy Peaches, Parts VI-IX

Haha, thanks!
Happy birthday, Peachy, and here’s to a W to enjoy today!
thank you!
Scherzer has another no-hitter going through 7 innings today.
He’s not bad. Step aside, Kershaw. There’s a new Sheriff in town.
But will the Nats bullpen blow it? That is the question that Mark Melancon mulls over in his melon.
Scherzer booted a come backer , then throw a wild pitch to score the tying run, he melted down after losing the no-hitter, he blow it, not the bullpen .
Yeah right. You are so biased and incapable of giving Kershaw his due.
You know who already has a HOF bust in the ready? Kershaw. Not Sherzer, not Bum.
He lost 2-1 .
Ryan M. Spaeder @theaceofspaeder
Max Scherzer has made 82 starts for the #Nationals. He has carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning in 11 of those.
The Genius — who openly disparages Posey for being out of position and that’s why Posey got creamed and how stupid is it that MLB has sissified baseball by making it so that guys can’t go out of their way to bowl over the catcher any more — is batting his pitcher eighth today. Gosh, what a mind this guy has. So superior, like Khan.

Blocking the Plate? This is Buster’s injury.
On top of that… Buster didn’t even have the ball. See it by his right leg?
Was Cousins supposed to know Posey didn’t have the ball?
Was that Bapah’s point? Was this a fun chance to go Full Oracle?
I’m not sure what his point was regarding the ball.
Your history leads us to be suspicious of your intentions
Your history leads me to believe that you’re likely to become hysterical if anything is said about Posey which isn’t fawning adulation.
Instigating, once again. You love to do it at work too?
Didn’t Matthew say something to me first?
No, you said something to me first.
Sorry. I didn’t know that whatever you say isn’t allowed to be questioned.
Keep it up. You have a reputation to protect.
You bet, I started it! No worries. In addition, that was incredibly level and honest take with the term “fawning adulation”! It’s like YOU are the linguist professor given the way you master the art of overstatements with no basis in fact!!!
I’m definitely sarcastic and you definitely have a problem handling negative opinions about Posey.
Yup. Definitely. Sure
How did your ex wife do in conflict resolution?
POI. It commonly means Point Of Interest.
My point was that comments about the incident with Rizzo referenced the catcher blocking the plate, just like Posey did. Neither did.
Now what are you trying to instigate?
Ignore it. It’s irrelevant to the injury, in any case. Just a POI.
I’m glad they changed the rule, but Cousins was just playing the game the way it was played before the rule change.
No attempt to reach the plate. He should be out.
And a play that would earn a suspension in the NFL certainly should in MLB.
I keep saying … It was never legal to try to knock a catcher into the grandstand. That’s called interfering with his ability to make another play, assuming he had the ball
Happy birthday Peaches.
May you have many more 29th birthdays in your future!
thanks! 🙂
How rich listening to Kasper and DeShais talk “catcher blocking the plate” after their douchebag manager disparages Posey
Ok, I’m actually really excited for this: https://twitter.com/SFGiants/status/877589453513998337
Totes! I am exciting for the season premiere – wife is super excited. Big G of T nerds here.
I know! It’s been freaking forever. We can at least say the GoT season will be a good one.
They released the second trailer today https://youtu.be/1Mlhnt0jMlg
I like that they used my favorite music from the show in the trailer – Light of the Seven ( https://youtu.be/jSCbTIaLbrg ) Ramin Djawadi is such a good composer (and he’s half Persian). He also does the music for Westworld.
the light of the seven from the bye bye Sept of Baelor episode is AWESOME! Lancel tried so hard to blow out the green fire. Not to be.
thanks for heads up on 2nd trailer. I bet my wife already knows
This was a very cool animation for this GOT and Giants fan…
It’s very unfortunate that the Giants lost Ser Gregor to the Sand Snakes.
Maybe they can enlist The Hound to join their Brotherhood Without Banners – although there do seem to be three flags with trophy sigils and house motto: Flags Fly Forever.
Barry Bonds gets his Wall of Fame plaque July 8th. Should be a tremendous event. That wall is my favorite pre-game visit.
In a few years his plaque will be noticeably larger in size…
As big as Bruce’s?

Giants Spring Training 2017: Five Questions to Explore
Giants Off season News by Greek Giant
[I believe Bruce Bochy will have one of the most talented and dedicated rosters in Major League Baseball. Nobody knows how the season will play out. Between injuries and disappointments, there are a bazillion ways for a team to lose its way by October. Let’s forget all that for now and stay on the optimism path. Going into
Spring Training this season I have identified five key questions the Giants will have to consider.]
Who Will Be the Fifth Starter?
Who Will Start in Left Field?
How Will the New Bullpen Line Up?
How Will Eduardo Nunez Fare at Third Base?
Will Anyone Ever Hit 30 Homers and Drive in 100 Runs for the Giants Again?
LOL
Headline: One In a Row: Giants Win a Game, Defeat Braves 6-3 Behind Slater and Belt (and Matty MO)
The MLB PopUp Screamer Fan Championsip, won a record 34 seasons in a row by LA Dodgers fans, looks to be changing hands to the new winners at Wrigley Field. Cubs fans are showing incredible talents and volume in the 2017 title chase.
Good to see Joe Panik emerging from his season-and-a-half long slump. His BA has been steadily creeping upward. He doesn’t strike out much and when you put the ball in play good things tend to happen eventually.
BlogTraders Anonymous are conflicted.
Joe is a solid guy with a solid strike zone. He’ll figure it out.
yup
Denard is a solid guy with a solid strike zone. He’ll figure it out?
Denard is an old guy with a boiled spaghetti arm. He has it figured out….he just can’t do it anymore
Getting it figured out then not being able to do it anymore is a metaphor for life.
Span batting .324 in June. Don’t let facts get in the way of a good narrative. That one was from Big Country Mike with regards.
How’s that arm? How’s that defense? Don’t let the facts get in the way of a good narrative!
UZR says one thing, DRS says another, I bet the eye jives with Inside Edge though, which says he hasn’t made any spectacular plays that he has made 33% of break even plays and muffed one gimme play. Something like that. What say you?
One of these days….
He’s a terrible CF. that’s what I say
You’ve been cutting him to little pieces!
His reward a seat on the bench tonight, Bochy thinks a platoon player now .
Seems wrong to bench a guy that’s just getting in his groove.
Padres/Cubs on MLB is a real game in the 7th, for those chilling inside today.
Here’s J.T. Snow veering away from the plate to try to take out Ivan Rodriguez. Was he dirty? A thug? Scum?
http://m.mlb.com/video/v13063009/03-nlds-gm-4-pudge-hangs-on-to-secure-series-win
Relentless instigation. You must love to fight. I even know how you’ll respond.
I hope you’re ok. Did you guess correctly?
Of course…we all do. Thank God their aren’t nightsticks allowed inside the blog
I get the point that’s the way the game was played but this one Rodriquez runs into JT’s path allowing him no option. Quite different from Cousins Posey collision.
To me, it looks like Rodriguez is standing off to the side, waiting to tag Snow as he runs by. Snow has an open lane to the plate, but changes course a little to go right at Rodriguez,
It was impressive to see Joe Maddon double down on his idiocy by not only stating the rule is based solely due to the Posey collision, but then having the audacity to criticize Posey’s positioning. All of this after his own dirty player went out of his way to take out an opposing catcher. I came to dislike Maddon last year due to his arrogant need to put his stamp on any given game, which nearly lost his team a World Series (defending using Chapman in Game 6 was pure idiocy). After these comments he’s become that much worse. If there’s another Dodgers v. Cubs NLCS I will be conflicted. As much as I hate the Dodgers I respect Roberts quite a bit and think he’s a good manager.
Once a Giant, always a Giant, that Dave Roberts. He obviously knows what he’s doing with Bellinger. Pulling the right strings on the kid for sure. And Puig, minor problems but nothing to deter from the team pounding out 10+ runs each night. Well, here’s to Dave.
He’s seemingly pushed all of the correct buttons. He’s an easy guy to root for and from everything I’ve seen treats his players and the opposition with nothing but respect. I thought he managed incredibly well in the playoffs and his bullpen just eventually crapped out on him (as did his ace in Game 6). I fear that with his managerial skills and their mix of exceptional young talent a World Series championship is inevitable in the not so distant future.
And to this point, he’s shown flexibility in his managing style. Something our local “Hall of Famer” has never done
ERA and WHIP ever so slightly lower than Beede’s. K-rate a smidgen higher as well. Hmmmmm.
I think that’s more discouraging about Beede than it is encouraging about Stratton.
Beede’s numbers are scary. ERA of 5.40, way more hits than IP, mediocre K rate and a WHIP over 1.5. That is exceptionally discouraging for a 24 year old who’s supposed to be a “top prospect” in the organization.
Welcome to the PCL, kid. He’ll probably get things figured out next year. He’ll probably get a Sept cup of coffee and not start out of gates at MLB next spring, but should be ready after ample seasoning. Ty Blach had two full seasons of AAA under his belt.
I knew there would be a correction in the PCL, but I didn’t expect it to be *that* dramatic, particularly as a 24 year old “top prospect.” I generally ignore ERA in the PCL, but the WHIP and K rate are…not good. It shouldn’t take him until he’s 25 to put up halfway decent numbers in the PCL. I think he’s got the stuff to be a good big league pitcher, but with Cueto about to bolt (via trade or opt out) it’s hard not to get concerned that what was thought to be the heir apparent is looking anything but.
Maybe Beede will have big league success, but he’s certainly not someone to be very excited about. He’s no Lincecum, who lasted 5 starts in AAA…31 innings, 12 hits, one run and 46 Ks.
He’s more Stratton than Lincecum, that’s for sure.
Yup. Serious talent reveals itself in such stark ways that it must be taken advantage of quickly. It doesn’t come along often enough. On the other hand, mediocre talent tends to spend year after year on the revolving door between AAA and MLB. I think Richmond 2016 gave too many people an overoptimistic evaluation of him. His jump to AAA shows he’s not ready.
He was great at home in AA ( a pitching haven ) and meh on the road.
Seger hit another home run tonight. Dodgers are schooling the Giants right now in developing young players. Makes me sick! At least we have 3 WS.
Poor Joc Pederson and Trayce Thompson. Cody Bellinger will make all LAD fans forget about the first two.
Haven’t seen a swing like that since Will Clark
Darwin 2017-18 candidates for THE winner will be easy this time around

No reason to bury Joc. He can still be a .230 hitter with good OBP and 25+ HRs. Something like 2017 Brandon Belt.
Yep, after thought in LA? Would lock down CF right now in SF. That says something about the current state of the 2 teams.
They’re really good … but for some reason pitchers are still trying to see if they can hit a fastball
And Alex Verdugo and Willie Calhoun are on deck – both of which stand a good chance of being better hitters than Arroyo and Slater. Flags do fly forever though, and ’88 was an awfully long time ago.
Apparently Al Rosen has been exhumed to replace Evie and the 2018 Club may look impressive. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/90fc14cec978eb93b1c78ead10c74bb8c3040944204ca1b326fda1bccbebae78.jpg

The leakage maybe can be drawn way back to when Aoki was looking like a decent early in the order guy and a 1-7 inning Left-fielder until he was HBP.
Me personally I would have signed Pagan for one more year. He was borderline apoplectic in the outfield especially if he knew TO was in the stands – but offensively – regardless of what the stats said – he kept the line moving.

I promised a little boy in the hospital that Denard Span would hit two homeruns for him tonight. Don’t let him down, D-Span, you da man!
Sure feels like rain is imminent.
Hello, TWG! Greetings from Suntrust Park, home of the Braves. Beautiful park, nice infrastructure, but still lacking the finishing touches. Great seats, under the canopy, but please no rain. Doesn’t look good, though… https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/af36a05e68ae03e32ffd1b3f18a7c43576f43081ce3e1d9e252e48b237b78fa0.jpg
wow great seats!
Nice seats. How much?
$74 each, PLUS $20 handling fee for EACH ticket. Shameless.
Wow, nice
That’s not bad at all.
I’m thinking about going Friday. I just checked StubHub and seats that look like they’re farther away than yours are listed at about $85-$90.
Damn that SF gentrification!
I really like when folks at TWG post in game photos.
Thank you.
Plus there has to be some kind of stat showing the Giants chance of winning goes up when one or more TWGs are in attendance. Boy, I really hope TF62 gets to see his game tonight, instead of driving home in the rain.

Welp…if one takes cues from company men talking points, Belt is getting traded. The pregame panel spent a segment bitching out Belt and opined the team would listen to offers ” this offseason”… greasing the tracks
I wish there was a way to see the pre- and post-game shows where I am down here.
The magic of Shawn Estes is sadly lost on you
I bet he wouldn’t be too upset.
Agreed.
Hope he picks it up then.
I have a bottle of Stagg ready for that date.
Sure hope they get something good back and don’t just give him away. Would hate to have him just explode like you never imagined and have nothing to show.
at 30 years old? highly doubtful.
Brandon Belt has yet to have his best statistical season, 2017 is a speed bump where Belt is down with the systemic malaise of the 2017 Giants.
Belt with never have a peak Will Clark sort of season but will hit in the .280 to .300 and have 25-30 HRs some season given another team and ballpark where he is not expected to carry the offense.
All of a sudden the vaunted Giants infield will not be as good without Belt’s hand and range at 1B.
I worry the Giants will not get much in return in a Belt trade.
A trade of Belt does open up 1B for Posey or Shaw but los posed the risk at weakening the Giants in two positions.
Frees up some money too for some free agents to fill other holes. You never now. Belt could bring back a CF or catching prospect that would really help the team
I am all for trading Belt if the Giants get a young starting quality CF or C for Belt and reduce the payroll. It is worth the season or two wait but bears a risk; also trading Belt on a down period with all the salary to be paid in the future detracts from trade value.
The Giants aren’t really set up to compete for a couple of years in their current state. They can worry about 1B before 2019.
you basically just defined the crux of the problem with Belt.
Almost 30 yrs old and fans like you have called him a 280/25+HR guy for years. HAs it happened? Do you think it will happen in ATT? Most likely not.
Can it happen in a park better set up for his batting skills? Perhaps. But if he was such a great player, the “park” excuse would not need to be brought up so often.
It is also precisely the reason a GM on the right team /park may still see him a a target, no matter his current BA.
The 25 + HRs is not going to happen at ATT.
Belt at ATT and with the Giants line up may not ever be in a good situation to him to get overly gaudy batting statistics. He is an OBP type hitter with periodic power, probably best in 6 or 7 batting spot.
You are correct in that some GM will over look current BA. That still doesn’t follow that the Giants will get quality in return especially with a FO that has not performed well in recent years.
Not happening with that contract, 1st base is probably the easiest position to fill on a team, and you do not need to pay 17.2 Million a year for a .221 hitter to fill it .
when it does happen what will you do when I openly mock you??!!? lol
Good do it, your mocking him, and then think a team will trade for him and pay him 17.2 Million , is stupid .
see below…….guys like you only look at stats, think players only get traded when their numbers are “up”.
No so, do some research.
GM’s know what a guy can do. They can understand that Belt may have better numbers in another park. Plus, for example on a team like the Yankees or Red Sox (for example) he would not have to carry the team offensively. GM’s know that on the Giants, that pressure is always there.
Yankees Stadium is great for Left handed pull hitters, Belt pulls grounders but rarely pulls fly balls , Red sox have Mitch Moreland at 1st base, for a lot cheaper then Belt will cost .
Send him to Houston. He’d hit 36 HR’s every yr in that band box.
Perhaps his new team will show him a bit more respect and put him in an ostrich costume instead of a giraffe…
I enjoyed the heck out of Belt’s getting the run Kontos allowed in back. But that seems too rare an event, so a trade wouldn’t bother me like seeing Joe or the other Brandon leave. But actually, his contract seems too big to get much in trade, so I find it fairly unlikely.
I actually think he is the only one that can get back a couple of decent players from say, a team like the Yankees. And the reality he can produce more there is realistic, but hey, so be it.
A great deal of the issue on the Giants is that this team has no power and no consistent hitting other than Posey. Belt is incapable of carrying the team. He is complimentary player that would be more effective on a team that would not rely on him. Why”? Because guys like Judge, Sanchez, Holliday drive in the runs. As long as Belt plays good D for the Yankees he will be appreciated.
They have guts making the MLB minimum that can play 1st base, and most teams do, Byrd , other teams do too, Bore, Power hitting 1st baseman are easy to find .
you carry conversations about as well as Chris Carter plays 1B. HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA
Cant complain if they do … first baseman are SUPPOSED to be among the easiest to replace, and he looks like a 30HR guy in some parks. While he is still very valuable, even at ATT, that he didn’t come out this year determined to beat the shift or keep defenses honest told me enough.
For his sake, I hope he gets traded to a team like Houston or Texas. He would crush it and be close to home
No, and no 1st baseman bunting more !
It’s not about bunting. It’s about an adjustment to keep defenses honest. If you’re not Williams or McCovey, you have no business hitting into a shift.
The attempt at bunts are not to get on first – they are attempts to stop the shift.
See Ted Williams on several occasions
Ted Williams never bunted, he was stuburn with the Shift, hit it in the air , no problem .
Ted Williams bunted several times to beat the shift. He only did it at home, though. Other times he bunted it was only for sacs.
He bunted for a 0.917 BA
I don’t mean any disrespect here, but Belt isn’t exactly Ted Williams. Belt needs to learn how to cope with the defensive shifts. Williams was a different story.
I swear, Myhill and Hoonu did this yesterday. I was disputing Pete’s comment. ONLY.
I have no, and did not, comment on Belt or Ted or anyone else.
Rizzo was still inside the line.
Of course he was.
Oh, I know that, just saying Belt is going to have to do something to adjust his strategy. He’s a mortal.
I’m not sure if parallelizing a verb and a noun is correct, though.
lol that should be the only time in MLB history the names BELT and TED WILLIAMS should be in the same sentence.
Not sure the 1B market will be so great. I keep hearing it isn’t. Your guy, Eric Hosmer, is a free agent. Not sure he’ll get 100 million, could be closer to 80.
Tough break. Hopefully the price of smirks stabilizes for him
If Hosmer makes that much it will make Belts contract appear not so bad.
Check out Jason Bores contract .
Bour?
Yeah, 20 Hrs for MLB minimum
Bourne. The next big movie is a trilogy based on Bond/Bourne/Baseball. Albert Brocollis widow has wanted this for years, and it’s finally in preproduction. Sort of an extended remake of Major League, with most of the original actors coming back, I’m told.
Yah. Exactamundo.
Minor leagues and get a 20 HR 1st baseman, cheap .
The Giants have had bad times before – 1985 – and several playoff scenarios were bleak.
The last week of 2010 – Dirty Sanchez has to win it, get a hit, Ghost of Freddy and Huff have to double and Posey goes deep.Down to last out vs ATL and Brooks Congrad joined up for our side.
2012 – Best of five vs. Cincy – down 0-2 – win three in a row with Romo throwing 12-13 pitches to Jay Bruce. Pagan becomes Darren Lewis. Vs. Cardinals in 7 games …. Scutaro and Matt Holliday.
2014 – Wild card game – Bum and Crawford – Vs. Nats – Giants in 4 – Belt – 18 inn game etc
Giants go to KC down 1-2 and go full seven games – MadBum et all

Bravo! We have good times, best of times.
Bumgarner is entertaining even when he can’t play. Baggs writes tonight that he’ll soon pitch against the new draftees and other rooks in the Arizona League. I hope he doesn’t scare any of them out of organized ball. Baggs has this paragraph in his story,
Bumgarner also told Bochy that he has begun hitting home runs in batting practice, but Bochy said he was fairly sure that the left-hander was joking and hadn’t begun swinging a bat yet.
It’s entirely possible Bumgarner is on the bench pinch hitting before he’s ready to pitch.
I think the heat is getting to you …
Bum would absolutely eat that up! It seems like he’s coming along OK, and I’m no longer ruling him out for late July.
The change in ebb and flow of teams from contention expressed as run differential. If you can’t judge and develop talent at an early stage, you are going to be SOL on the competitiveness roller coaster.
https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/baseballs-mediocre-teams-are-disappearing/
And it’s raining. Hard. Heard someone say “it’s like this until 9:30 EDT.” Great. My ONE Giants game this year. Tough it out, TF.
2017 just isn’t our year, in all sorts of ways. sorry about your game, but there might be a make up game later?
With the records of these two teams I don’t think there will be any urgency to make up a rain out game. Not like there are any playoff implications involved…
I just worked out that there’s a 4th game tomorrow against ATL, so there’s a chance of a double header? You are right, this game doesn’t matter so very much, except the importance of TF62 seeing a game this year.
We are all rooting for TF62 to get this game in, and I admire the fact that even though he lives in the area he only attends games there if the Giants are in town.
Worst case scenario for the Giants is that tomorrow’s game is also delayed (or goes extra innings… or both!) because they then get to fly cross country and land in SF at 8AM just in time to get ready for a Friday night home game. That sort of jet lag could severely impact our high octane offense.
“severely impact our high octane offense” Hee, Hee. Totally justifies your screen name!
Apologies for stepping on you there, bro. Shoulda read down.
How dare you not follow the blog comments second by second while you are getting drenched at Sun Trust Field?!?!?
They sincerely believe in NOT having day games- even on getaway days.
Disgraceful.
No, Rain for a while tropical storm for days .
It’s too early in the season to blow off a game. If tonight’s a rainout, Giants get screwed. Two games tomorrow, late cross country flight, and Friday night vs. the Mets. No bueno.
Tomorrow Rain just as bad .
And, undoubtedly – noHomeRuns™. Unfortunate summer stolsice factor (harmonic conversions/ventions). Not cool.
True. Could be a washout of both games.
Probably a day/night doubleheader tomorrow. We’re both off tomorrow so probably attend the Day game. When it will be hot and humid. At least we’re in the shade.
They have to play tonight! I’m not used to not having a baseball game to watch on my bday.
Today is national peaches and cream day. No bull.
https://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/days-2/national-peaches-n-cream-day-june-21/
it’s kismet!
I’m getting some fro-yo later tonight when the temp drops to mid-90s, I’ll add some peaches to it.
Is “fro-yo” a breed of deer?
Happy Birthday, Peachy!
thank you!
Happy Birthday!!
thanks!
LOL – Check out Baggerly’s Tweet on the right with the video of rain coming into the announcer’s booth. Funny stuff.
“Take it, Dave!”
Don’t know if you all saw Baggs’s article about Nunez. He says he really likes being on the Giants and would happily sign back with them. Bochy says he’d welcome Nunez back, as well.
They’ll probably trade him, anyway, but it’s nice to see someone express positive feelings about the team, especially when you consider Nunez has pretty much zero good memories of the Giants since being traded here last July. Even the five minutes of happiness at the end happened without Nunez, who was injured for the last week of the season and the playoffs.
http://www.sfgate.com/giants/article/Giants-Bochy-reacts-to-Maddon-s-comments-on-11234564.php?cmpid=twitter-tablet
Use this link, although Lefty’s shows why one of the reasons I like Bochy so much:
http://www.sfgate.com/giants/article/Giants-Nu-ez-wants-to-get-healthy-stay-in-SF-11237694.php
Oops, thanks for the helping hand there! Here’s the link to the Baggs article.
Has some good info about the draft picks and signings, too.
https://twitter.com/extrabaggs/status/877682212723970049
I’d tske hin back too– super utility player depending on price, Arroyo’s development and trade value
I’m a little conflicted–3B is one of their deepest positions, organizationally, but Nunez is valuable and brings some good energy.
I like Nunez too though my enthusiasm this season started high and dripped very low and now is perhaps most realistic.
One problem is that Nunez is a FA for 2018 and is likely to ask for much more salary.
… and will want a full time job, too. But I like that he wants to be a Giant.
I like to hear and favor when players speak well of the Giants and want to be here.
We’re hunkered down up here in the concourse. If y’all hear the game is postponed, let me know. Concourse crowd seems to be thinning a bit
It’s supposed to start in 3 minutes?
Congrats Brent Burns for winning the Norris. There was a great contract extension.
Now to add a Stanley Cup to that hardware.
Hell yes. Congrats to him.
Game time! Still looks very ominous, but here we go.
They said it might start raining again in an hour or so.
Wonder what they did with the home plate in the parking lot where the older stadium once stood commentating Hank Aaron where he stood for 715.
Are you thinking of this, in Milwaukee? (pasted in from wikipedia)
The final major league game at County Stadium was on Thursday, September 28; Warren Spahn threw out the first pitch to Del Crandall, and also in attendance were Willie Davis, Hank Aaron, and Robin Yount. After the last game, demolition immediately began. It was demolished on February 21, 2001. Although most of the stadium site is now covered with parking for Miller Park, the site of the old infield was converted into a Little League park, and is now called Helfaer Field. On a picnic concourse next to the playing field of Helfaer Field, there is an outline of where home plate was at County Stadium and also a bronze marker in the nearby parking lot marking where Hank Aaron’s 755th career home run landed.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.talkingchop.com/platform/amp/2016/10/2/13142068/video-hank-aaron-transporting-home-plate-from-turner-field-to-suntrust-park
No. But you inspired me to look it up.
Nice, but also dang: I really hate seeing all the players of my youth using canes to get around.
Yeah. I got to see Hank Aaron give a speech at Turner Field about 15 years ago. He does a lot for Atlantas’ youth.
Well, we all are..
It’s out in the concourse. Very nice display of Braves history.
I’m very impressed with Kelby’s overall defense. Positioning, move with the ball, making the quick throw. I appreciate more in person than on TV.
And yet … he couldn’t make the team
0 = EXBH by KT
Same as me!
Me too, Belt last 2 at bats =2 EXBH= 2 Giants runs scored .
I hope Belt is getting hot for a while.
Little to late to salvage this season .
He likes batting 7th?
Who knows? But he’s doing better than when hitting 3rd.
He’s not in there to get extra base hits PJ. He’s in there to get on base and play good D.
slappyfan62
Singles do not score runs, Panik better glove and more pop .
Well, there was Aaron Hill.
At least this Aaron Hill experiment is going well
Where-o-where is Gillaspie? Or Hwang?
Why oh why oh why
So tomorrow is get away day for the Giants and the league schedules them a night game before they fly across country to play at home vs the Mets. Seems a bit excessive to make a team go through that.
They talked about that on the post-game wrap last night. The Giants asked the Braves to move tomorrow’s game to a day game but the Braves said no, as is their right. The Giants are not happy about it but that’s the Braves’ prerogative. This scheduling problem won’t occur beginning next season according to the new CBA.
Must be the leagues subtle attempt at forcing parity down the throats of teams that have had some recent success. I’m sure they knew what they were doing, or they’re not too bright.
Or the Braves being assholes.
I’m sure the Giants would oblige a teams request to move a game on get away day. Giants need to nut it up these last two in Atlanta and oblige the Braves by winning these two.
Atlanta says it’s too hot there during the day to play day games. Home team prerogative.
Nothing in the schedule makes sense. The string of home and homes, two days off in a week followed by a cross country trip with no off day, traveling on holiday weekends, etc
If I recall, the home team gets to decide…the last few years haven’t shown many teams doing our guys any favors
That all ends this year. No more late games on getaway days starting next year.
Nice to hear.
Unless the visiting team has the next day off.
The Giants don’t pull that crap when they are the home team.
Supposedly it’s a weather thing.
Buster 0 for his last 11, batting title slipping away .
Seeing a lot of Buster Posey jerseys, as we always do here. Also seeing a lot of Crawford jerseys. One old guy (like me!) wearing a full uni w/Crawford jersey.
Metal cleats?
No. Tennies!
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/44ef55760d994aa2748e72aaebd7883652d41dbbf53dae17cecf7273077727c2.jpg
Braves extra base hit 2 runs, Imagine that .
You love this.
There goes the streak.
Always good to see Aaron Hill get ABs because he’s a key piece to this team’s future. And he’s raking.
Bochy has to please the vets. It’s infuriating.
Hey TF62, what do you think of Newcomb?Braves got him for Andrelton Simmons couple years back.
He looks good. Sitting at 93-94 with decent movement in the zone. Easy, fluid motion. Nice command of his off-speed stuff.
That breaker is sharp.
I hate Spam’s act in the box.
Tommy’s bothers me. Swing the bat. This is not pepper.
He means Span’s delay tactic…seems like your back on the D Train! You go, Foots!
Maybe the NAACP can get his contract voided and get him back to DC or Minnesota. What say you, buddy?
You’re a different dude.
He’s his own Grandpa.
Four three, am I right?
Span with the obligatory at least once a game 4-3 groundout. Sigh.
Pssst. Did you sneak some purple into the park? 😀
Shutout 9 innings Monday, shutout for 7 innings Tuesday, 1 run through 6 innings tonight .
You didn’t mention the 5 run 8th? How come?
Or that the Braves were shut out for 7 innings yesterday.
Slaaaaaaaaappy post.
Loser!
Where’s the caaaaaaaaaaps lock?
it’s offfffffffffffffffffffffff!
Blanco’s leading off and playing CF for the Snakes. He has a .758 OPS in almost 100 ABs so far.
I get that Pagan had worn out his welcome. But I wish they’d kept Blanco. He’s a great guy and was a great Giant. I’m happy things are going well for him now, but I miss him.
And Pollock not able to come back right away. Must be fun hitting in that Zona lineup.
C’mon guys, get Samardzija a win! Only 66 pitches through 6 innings, 7 Ks, 0 BB, 2 runs on 4 hits.
It’s just nuts how Shark doesn’t walk people anymore. Like, ever.
Atta babe Buster.
It all started with a single in the top of the 7th.
That pitcher is wearing a glove from Big 5
AKsisterfan wants to know if Dansby Swanson was in the same pledge class with Chadwick Osborne, Jr.
Actually Beede, Fulmer
This a good spot for Panik to PH for Hill. Looks like Boch is going to pass on it tho.
C’mon Hill. Reward the Boch.
no real chance of that happening.
Yes, Aaron, c’mon, we here at TWG love you!
Speak for yourself!
Mr Sarcastic clearly has hacked 12xu’s account!
Questionable
Dang, didn’t work. Does anybody here think that the Braves pitched around Belt to bring up Hill?
Yes, why pitch to 0.225 with a homer and a triple in this series if you can pitch to 0.141?
Ummmm, yeah
Just needed a heater up to finish him
Kuiper in his previous at bat, he is hitting .143 but you rather have him up then a rookie .
Or Joe Panik
that at bat yes, but Kuipers comment was earlier in the game, as an ex vet he prefers vets too .
Things that annoy me about the Giants, 6-21-17. So many choices. The order changes frequently. Here’s today’s ranked list.
1. Aaron Hill
2. Gorkys Hernandez
3. George Kontos
4. Matt Cain
EDIT: Span is #2. Everyone else moves down a notch.
5. Bochy
What annoys me the announcers and the beat writers and the Bay area Media give Bochy a pass for playing all of them, and agree with him in some cases .
Yep. Good call.
He’s a Hall of Famer
KNBR fan boys say that every day and never criticize him , and actually feel sorry for him .
Sure has missed the playoffs a lot with huge payroll
Every Hill PA is an insult to the game
Thankfully, Amici’s delivers, Lefty
Not from Vacaville to Davis. 🙁
Did Bellinger homer?
.
.
.
.
No. Three unassisted.
Does Swanson wear #7 because he’s a huge Aaron Hill fan?
He thinks it looks like “greater than”
maths jokes on TWG. I love it.
I think it was his number at Vandy.
C’mon, Vandy Nerd…go with my joke
7IP 7H 3ER 8K 79 Pitches. Solid outing once again.
It would be a shame if this effort ended up as a loss on his record.
Gopher ball problem
Way to go, Denard Forthree!
He got it out of the way when the game wasn’t on the line. Wait until his next AB, he’s going to be clutch…
Well how about that, I love Adams. He’s a gift that keeps on giving
His 2 run HR was a gift, and his 11 HRs since replacing the injured Freeman who had 14 HRs , Braves 25 HRs from 1st base .
You love home runs like a fat kid loves cake, PJ!
I disagree with people who think defense is the key to a 1st baseman .
I think those “people” just think it’s an important part, but NOT ” the key”
Peter loves HR and straw men.
Most Important.
Can you imagine that every ball hit in the infield the player has to catch it and then run all the way over to 1st before the runner gets there. QED Totally different game.
And Span slides into third with a stand up triple. Atta babe!
Let’s go for an RBI infield single, Clark!
We’ll take that RTI!
RTIs are beautiful! 🙂
Sam Dyson has a Chad The Breast Grabber look to him.
Eeeuw.
Never heard from that dude again….
I unfriended him, too!
That was a nasty strikeout pitch.
Atta babe Sam.
Dyson and Buster have a nice chemistry. He looks like a steal
Rangers lump of coal looking like our diamond in the rough.
Will the freaking tomahawk chop BS and the accompanying whooping and howling ever go away? If gosh forbid I was a Braves fan, I would refuse to partake in that crap.
That coo calling is really bad.
Yesssssss!
BOOM! Take that, Braves fans.
Atta babe Hunter.
PENCE!! Again..
Pence over the fence.
Thank you Mr. Pence
The Reverend finally breathing some fire and brimstone! 🙂
Welcome back Hunter. Perhaps rumors of his demise are premature. Lets hope so
DH in the NL!!!!! (Shhhhh…little joke)
If you don’t love Jim Johnson, well, you’re not human!
Two. ninth inning home runs in less than a week.
Tide is begging to turn.
I’m tremendously disappointed in Peter….WHERE IS YOUR CELEBRATORY POST?!?!?!
I am busy
That was about as slappy a comment as I’ve ever seen!
You like tie games on the road, I was taking my son tp the bathroom , missed it, you happy .
Excuses!
Incredible bad luck that you were free for the Adams homers!
I can not control my son’s bladder .
Wait until he gets my age!
Too busy to criticize Bochy. Wow. Must be important
Belt always looks like he check swings at a ball he takes. Bit him square this time.
Can someone explain to me the “Old Mitch Kupchak” reference?
I thought he was on the Lakers in the 70’s.
Yeah, he was the Lakers former GM.
Adams fouled a ball into his own family jewels, so there was a “cup check”–Kupchak.
Oh lol I thought there was more to it. I’m disappointed Javy
Cup Check– get it
Thought there was more to it than that haha
Interesting Span gets ridiculed all game and has two hits and the fanboys and fangals keep loving their Kelby who has zero hits.
Kelby is the hero to the slappy portion of this blog and that is a big portion .
lol
He has 0 EXBH, that is hard to do, but people love his gritty play I guess .
Tighten your Belt, E. Span is a disaster.
Kelby is a backup infielder…nothing more. Not sure there’s that much love
true, but plenty of love all around for the Kelbster, as if he was some type of savior, almost held in the same reverence and Duffy.
Exactly the type of players the Giants have produced the past few years that have led to this disaster.
I’d just rather see anybody but another old vet like hill
Qualified love for kelby
That effin ball was so playable.
I’m launching a Kickstarter campaign to buy Aaron Hill a plane ticket on Southwest to Santa Fe
Unstoppppabbbbllle todayyyyyy!!!!!
I have seen more than enough of Hill. Mistake not to to double switch for Tomlinson though hampered by short bench. Thanks Strickland
I hope the residue of this game is the very last we’ll see of Hill.
Nice job Dyson!
Dyson is dealing! 🙂
Awesome job Dyson
Liking Dyson more and more as he exhibits some real steel gonads.
How’s Dyson looking?
Balls of steel.
Adams is jealous
Looked very good. Did we get a steal?
Too soon to know, of course, but Jobu owes us something big.
Evans is genius. Dumpster dive of the year.
Bryan Morris looks like a decent pick-up, too.
If he turns out like he looked tonight– way too early to tell– but if so Evans deserves a lot of love for this one
Rangers should’ve never given up Dyson this early on, especially after what he did for them last year. Kind of a slap in the face
Executing his pitches real well.
I have enjoyed Lopez on the telecasts.
Com’on Joe!!!!
Two errors for Hill. Score one in the “Bochy’s a genius” category–benches Panik and plays Hill. And hitting a rip-roaring .136.
Have I mentioned Hill annoys me?
Grass isn’t greener on the other side of the Hill. That much is evident.
We need to start a new HaakAway contest!
MyHill!!! ( meaning Your Hill, not mine)
Get better soon Connor
See you Friday night in SF, Conor.
Span needs Hill as a buffer.
Who was left on the current roster. there was a double switch for Panik. I failed to notice it
Formally, Nunez, Hundley, and Gorkys. Can’t use the first two?
He should not have started, Panik can hit Leftys
I knew you werent too busy to criticize Bochy. Welcome back
Your never to busy to suck him !
Whoa. Hey, now
Consider the source
Swan song, PJ…Hwang will join us in SF
Good call
You misspelled “Gillaspie.”
Short for “Hwang Grabber”
Just teed that one right up for you, didn’t I?
C’mon Forthree! Have a night. Let’s do this…your unstoppable todayyyyy
In his own way Span is as streaky as Belt– just game to game. 0-4 0-4 and then 3 hits. 0-4 0-5 then four hits
At least his wing is consistent
Kurt Suzuki has so many pitiful moments against us. I feel for the guy
Epic bench strength!!!!
Play to your strength Gorkys. That wasn’t it.
This is also why Giants should go get Saunders
They have 5 power hitting Outfielders in AAA, they do not need another washed up veteran Bochy will play every day .
An all-star that hit 24 HRs last year is floating around on the waivers right now. This kind of opportunity doesn’t come around very often.
They need to go young, this year is over, think of the future .
I guess 24 home runs next year wont count
The Phillies DFA him, the Phillies !
because they’re the Phillies! That’s why they suck!
Look at his numbersn since last years All star break, he has hit worse than the Giants .
100% with you on this one, pj. Hoona seems to be actually thinking like bochy.
He’s a fine 4th OF option for the future. Saunders doesn’t seem all that bad compared to guys like Marrero and Ruggiano
Shaw, Slater, Jones are my 3 corner Outfielders for 2018 .
You actually believe that bochy will use saunders as a 4th outfielder as opposed to benching slater, even if saunders is hitting 250 points lower?? Seriously??
How do you know what Bochy’s going to do? All I said was Saunders could be utilized in the role that Ruggiano played or take Gorkys’ spot. Whatever you think Bochy is going to do with Slater and Saunders is your OPINION, not what’s going go happen. It’s a fucking suggestion, I’m not demanding that Evans needs to go get Saunders.
Good Cory, please.
Human rain delay now pitching.
Suzuki = ball magnet. Ouch.
I hate that freaking chant and the tomahawk chop
And it grows exponentially more obnoxious with every inning. Next inning they’ll add some dubstep to it.
I imagine this is what they torture prisoners with in Guantanamo Bay, just playing it on repeat.
It’s way worse live. Beyond annoying.
They should rename the chop: Mimesturbation
Me too, had to mute the TV because Gearrin is so freaking slow between pitches, so I hear even more of it!
Slater now considered beef by Kup. Awesome.
Are we down to Blach as our PH after The Gearrinator did this?
Hundley– besides the pitchers spot made the last out
I’ll bet Bochy saves him.
Cain can bunt.
Nice job from Gearin though he had me worried with the 3-2 count to the leadoff hitter
Threw 5 straight strikes on that…wow.
My cousin is at Sinatra restaurant the Wynn. Last night, they had to “help” Gretzky to his room after he got shitfaced. The Great One is back tonight, and is on his 3rd double vodka in 20 minutes. Looking like a repeat performance.
I didn’t know he was a Giants fan
That’s kind of sad.
The last time we were in Vegas (which I think will be the LAST time we will be in Vegas), we stayed at the Wynn Encore. From what I remember about the bars there, three double vodkas would cost about the same as my house payment.
Just chatted with him…we’re trying to figure out why he’s getting smashed every night. The league awards and expansion draft were tonight, so he’s “working”. All he does these days is golf so he’s probably bored to tears
I think Vegas is really boring. If you’re not a gambler (we’re not) and you’re not in the mood for high-end shopping (I never am), what else is there to do but what for your next meal and drink?
I’m with you…we only go if work forces us.
Yep. We went once because we’d never been and we had one of those Virgin America vouchers from the Giants game. Stayed at the Cosmpolitan for a weekend, saw a couple shows, had a couple nice meals, saw what it was all about. It was OK, but all we could find to do between meals was watch college football in a sports book.
The second time I was there for a conference, and that’s when we stayed at the Wynn Encore. As the cab took us to the airport, I told Mr. Lefty to take a last look around because we were never coming back.
Beauty and I hung at the Encore European pool ( am I married to a good sport or WHAT?!?!?!) so, as you would imagine, that was the lone highlight.
We got two buffet vouchers as part of our package at the Encore, and I’m not a buffet gal, but I must say, it was outstanding.
So you went topless? I’d pass on that.
Well, one certainly has to take the good with the bad at those joints…
The people watching is good. Not much else appeals to me though.
The people watching IS good. All the different age groups, all the get-ups.
Forgive me if I’ve told this story. Was in line for the ladies’ at a restaurant in Vegas and started chatting with a woman. She explained that it had been on her “bucket list” to empty a hotel mini-bar, so the night before, they did–all the little bottles, all the cookies, all the chips.
I couldn’t believe it. They probably spent hundreds of dollars eating and drinking crap out of the minibar. There are some great celebrity chef restaurants in Vegas–for the price of that minibar, they could have had a nice meal.
WHO has that on their bucket list? Only in Vegas. SMH
His daughter had her 2nd kid recently .
She’s a hot mess
Pence is completely locked in right now. He would’ve swung at that pitch 2 weeks ago.
Has someone mentioned that Brett Pill’s brother is pitching against the Dodgers tonight?
It’s the Pill-Hill face-off!
It’s mind blowing. He is probably a perfect pitching counterpoint to Brett the hitter.
Back to The Chop Mute!
I don’t like the decision to stretch Gearrin out for 2 innings.
Thanks to Strickland, we have to! 🙁
Could’ve been Crick or Osich to start off the inning. Oh well, let’s see how it plays out
Yeah, we want Crick!
Win or lose, it should’ve been Crick’s inning.
Meaningless game and he’s walking guys. But they should be stretching everyone it to 2 innings. That is the pathway to a stronger bench and better team
Meaningless game. I can’t stand Gearrin though. His stuff is Romo-esque but has no consistency at all.
Shit!
Thanks Giants, in your damn consistency of suckiness.
Son of a nutcracker!!!
Technically the Giants didn’t lose on my birthday, because it’s already tomorrow there.
Well Happy birthday JP.
thank you! as my friend put it, “well, at least we still have watermelon beer”.
It could be worse. They not only lost on my birthday last year, they traded Duffy. I may never get over that.
It’s your parents fault for hatching you on deadline day.
It’s NOT deadline day. They moved it to Aug 1 last year because the GMs were all in church on July 31 or something?
OK, let’s be clear. It was your birthday. It was deadline day. Duffy was traded…..I rest my case. Your parents are GUILTY
You have no idea. Let’s just say I was a “guest” at my parents’ wedding.
That’s fantastic. My oldest sis was the same….
Oh geez, yeah can’t beat that.
It could be worse they did lose on my birthday, which was Fathers Day. A horrible walk off loss. Oh well happy Birthday.
happy belated birthday!
That’a girl… finding the bright side.
Well, that streak didn’t last long.
He just kept throwing crappy pitches until they got one. Man is he awful. And man is the stadium a joke …. Again
The stadium looked pretty fair. The Giants did about their average of 3 runs per game scoring 9 in 3 games. They did have 3 home runs which is a little above average but not by much
Nothing wrong with Suntrust Park, IMHO. Giants didn’t lose because of the park. We lost because we can’t get hits with runners in scoring position. Maddening.
But, the one that was hit was NOT a crappy pitch. Look at it again.
Gearrin hadn’t given up a HR all season, 27 appearances, 29.0 innings before tonight. : (
There is a first for everyone
25 glorious hours….
Win streak ends at 1
The bullpen has a lot of dead wood that desperately needs to get cleared out (Gearrin, Kontos, Morris, etc.).
If they cleared out all of the Blog designated deadwood, we would have about 6 players
That maybe true, but also potentially appropriate with this squad. But there are some awful pieces in the pen that have no future with this team. Dyson is a fine experiment, but Gearrin, Kontos and Morris have no future with this team. Really tired of seeing them pitch.
we could fill the roster with myguys, and get the bonus points. My guy Law not going as predicted.
Mortus actually hasnt been too bad– however I trust none of them. Period.
When this team gets used to losing, that’s when we’ll really be in trouble. Not sure the Giants have accepted that quite yet, but I’m afraid it might not be that far off if we keep losing. With Evans sending a message by dropping Law to Sac, don’t be surprised if Gearrin is next. Gotta believe the mothership is going slap crazy and boiling over right about now.
But in reality, when we start bringing runners home from scoring position, games can stay out of extra innings.
Holy shnikeys!! Aoki is with the Astros now? At least the AAAs are losing
FIRE EVERYONE!!
If it were allowed, Shark would probably give Cueto a cool $5 mil for that opt out clause…maybe more. Not to end up with a better deal but to end up on a team that occasionally scores some runs.
If they played .500 the rest of the way, they’d finish with 91 losses.
What is this mysterious “500” thing of which you speak?
That might not be a bad thing. If they had the #2 overall pick they might be compelled to pick some sensational high school pitcher that is due to blow out his elbow. But if they fall back to the 8th pick, they might grab some sensational collegiate outfielder. It’s going to be interesting.
They are 5-17 in their last 22 games. That is taking terrible to an impressive new level.
Wow, here’s a stat. The Giants are second in MLB with 40 quality starts from their rotation.
I would NOT have predicted that. And that’s mostly without Bumgarner.
The starting staff has done relatively well despite
— Lack of offense especially timely hitting and power
— Poor relief pitching
— Poor OF defense
— Injury to MadBum
Despite periodic meltdowns especially by Moore, the starting staff is easily the strongest part of the team and this is obscured by ERA and W-L stats.
Cain has been much better than expected but is still essentially done IMO. Be interesting if he retires or tries to pitch elsewhere next season. I could see Cain on the Giants as a middle / long reliever but at a salary corresponding to the role.
Blach (MyGuy) has done better than hoped for and I hope it is start of a long career and not a hot streak until he is more a known quantity.
Samardzija lack of BB is amazing.
Beede has been not that good and is regressing.
It feels like the staff HR count must be one of the high ones in the MLB, though.
Feels that way to me but they are sixth lowest in HR’s allowed. Willie Mays Field helps them do this of course, park adjustment would put them higher.
That speaks quite a bit to how terrible the offense and pen has been.
Bochy leaves his starters in longer than most Managers, so lots of 6 IP 3 runs allowed starts = 4.50 ERA .
Horses, they have reliable horses. I bet the Dodgers are near the bottom. Their starters average less that 5 IP per start I bet. What’s this say about value of multiple horses? I don’t know.
The giants starting pitching hasn’t been bad. The problem is that it was supposed to be great, that’s what they’ve put all of their effort into.
I noticed that our good friend Ehire Adrianza had 3 SBs in one game the other day. Overall, he’s batting .259/.323/.333.
Been keeping my eye on Brad Zimmer. How much do the Giants regret not drafting a CFer from their own backyard at USF? He was a top of board draft prospect, but they liked Beede’s potential better. In his first 100 PAs,
Zimmer is batting .303/.380/.506, with 4 HRs and 7 SB ( and 1.2 WAR already! ). Could be #2 in AL ROY voting. Have to think about that one. Sigh.
The coulda would shoulda game is kind of fun to play with draftable college outfielders from California, Fresno north. Zimmer in CF, Judge in RF, and our good friend Austin Slater in LF (.310/.365/.466, 2 HRs – that’s very respectable!)
What are the Giants going to do with Miguel Gomez? He’s batting .320/.351/.483 with 8 HRs in AA. I’m guessing his defense is nowhere in league with Joe Panik, but seems he can legitimately swing the bat. Where to put him? What to do?
And then there’s Jae Guy Hwang. What do do? His opt out date is approaching quickly. I think Sr. Scout Matthew nailed it – basically, bye bye Hill, nice swan song, but time for the Hwang song. Jae is batting .288/.323/.467 with 6 HRs and 5 SBs in AAA, which happens to be league average production.
This has been a morning post with Bradley Zimmer regrets and several triple slash lines. Have a good day.
Drafting Beede … I noticed last night that in the 2014 draft the Giants got Beede at #15 and then the Braves took Newcombe who looks legitimate at the MLB level. Did the Giants draft wrong, develop poorly or just not give Beede a chance? Seems any of those are possible and impossible to discern.

Good morning all. Tough, tough loss last night. Myself and Mrs. Crawnik are taking a little getaway for the next few days, but I’ll check in from time to time.
i was thinking, why put Gearrin in that situation last night? Where was Crick? Why not use him? Is Bochy using him as window dressing or what? Anyways, enjoy the weekend all.
The game was far too important to risk using Crick. It was their chance to get to 28-46.
