Sometimes the ball just bounces in funny ways…

Last night Dereck Rodriguez was nothing short of fantastic, going seven innings and allowing only one run on five hits, seven strikeouts and one walk. His change-up was especially excellent and he was in command of the zone pretty much all night inducing weak contact and getting ahead in counts. This was the D-Rod we were hoping to see this season.
Unfortunately, the Cardinals countered with Jack Flaherty, the National League Pitcher of the Month for July and currently in a streak so dominant that his numbers compare favorably to those put up by Bob Gibson in 1968 over the same stretch. The one run D-Rod gave up would be the only run scored in the game. The Giants were no match for the Flaherty slider and 96 MPH heater later in counts. It was just that kind of night and there’s no need to cry about it.
On the bright side Yaz had two hits, ummm the only two hits for the Giants…
San Francisco has now lost 11 of their last 14. Ouch!
The Box
On the dark side, Johnny Cueto is experiencing back tightness and now appears doubtful to make his 2019 debut against the Dodgers in Los Angeles this weekend.
It’s beginning to look a lot like September of 2018… You remember. That was the month the Giants went 5-21 for their worst month in franchise history.
