This was a wild night at the yard!
This was also a night when many game balls were deserved:
- Kevin Pillar
- Will Smith
- Scooter Gennett
- Mike Yazstremski
- Bruce Bochy
- The Phans at Willie Mays Phield
It’s great beating the Phillies. It’s even greater beating them three of four when Bryce Harper is on their team.
This is a game that had everything. This is a game that Bruce Bochy managed like a postseason game 7 contest, using pitchers early on, getting his closer to come into the game in the 8th, and leaving no stone unturned in his quest to lock down a series win. After getting swept by the Nationals, the Giants did well to get three of four from a Phillies team that can score runs but that also has a bit of a leaky bullpen.
Conner Menez’s start did not go as planned or hoped but pennant runs and rookie starts during big games rarely do.
The Giants bats countered the Phillies in a big way with gigantic hits by Gennett, Pillar and of course, Will Smith’s two-RBI knock in the bottom of the eighth that resonated through San Francisco and into Marin County!
