Greek Giant
Every time the Giants play the Marlins it seems more than one or two strange things happen. On Sunday neither team looked like it wanted to win so Mike Yastrzemski dashed home from third with two outs on a wild pitch and scored the winning run in a very lackluster 2-1 game that saw Johnny Cueto start and experience very stressful fourth inning where he threw 2800 pitches.
With the win the Giants took two of three from Miami.
Cueto looked like he was having fun and in command for the most part during the game’s first three inningsdespite the high volume of pitches in the fourth thanks to numerous balls fouled off by the Marlins on three straight 3-2 counts. The stress pitches took their toll on Johnny Beisbol who did ultimately go five innings allowing three hits and only no runs.
We can analyze this game for its bizarre lifelessness and say it was an exhibition of two less than stellar teams having a bad day but a series win is a series win, especially against the Marlins, who have man-handled the Giants in San Francisco on numerous occasions in the past ten years.
Mr. Cueto now has pitched ten innings in two starts total and has yet to allow a run in 2019.
The Giants are off tonight. So am I
