Howdy folks. Welcome to the weirdest MLB draft day ever. First, we still have no agreement on when or if baseball will be played in 2020. Second, this year’s draft only has five rounds, for reasons which, frankly, stun me. Each year there are usually 40 rounds of selections. Going from 40 to 5 is, needless to say, a very different dynamic. I am willing to lay even odds that MLB is using the pandemic is a way to give certain teams a bigger advantage when it comes to post-draft free agent signings of amateur players. We shall see.
The Giants pick 13th this year. Here are but a few stars who were drafted in the 13th slot: Manny Ramirez (1991), Chris Sale (2010) and Trea Turner (2014). This is the first time in San Francisco Giants history that our club picks 13th.
I highly recommend Dr. Lefty’s recent post on the draft if you want a look at possible Giants picks.
