Greek Giant
The 2020 postseason begins today and boy is it interesting. Unfortunately our beloved Giants fell short in what was a surprising year of offensive prowess that kept our team in the hunt until the very last day of the season. But the race for the pennant begins today. MLB.com has a very good preview with fancy brackets and full of colors and charts and such. It is a fun read for those of you, who like me, need your baseball fix and like to fantasize about the what ifs concerning the Giants.
Oh well… We’ll always have 2010, and 2012, and 2014…
MLB Postseason
Tampa Bay Rays (1) vs. Toronto Blue Jays (8)
- Game 1: Tuesday, Sept. 29, 5 p.m., TBS
- Game 2: Wednesday, Sept. 30, 4 p.m., TBS
- Game 3: Thursday, Oct. 1 (if necessary)
My Pick: Rays in three. The Blue Jays had a strong season but the Rays are simply too deep and too talented in all phases of the game.
Oakland Athletics (2) vs. Chicago White Sox (7)
- Game 1: Tuesday, Sept. 29, 3 p.m., ESPN
- Game 2: Wednesday, Sept. 30, 3 p.m., ESPN
- Game 3: Thursday, Oct. 1 (if necessary)
My Pick: Athletics in three. This might be the most interesting of all the first round series. Both teams appear to be powerhouses and the Sox can really mash. The experience and mentally-tougher (thanks to all those postseason disappointments) Athletics will take the series.
Minnesota Twins (3) vs. Houston Astros (6)
- Game 1: Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2 p.m., ABC
- Game 2: Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1 p.m., ESPN2
- Game 3: Thursday, Oct. 1 (if necessary)
My Pick: Twins in a sweep. Karma and a superior Twins team will haunt the Astros in 2020.
Cleveland Indians (4) vs. New York Yankees (5)
- Game 1: Tuesday, Sept. 29, 7 p.m., ESPN
- Game 2: Wednesday, Sept. 30, 7 p.m., ESPN
- Game 3: Thursday, Oct. 1 (if necessary)
My Pick: Yankees in a sweep. The Indians can pitch but the big Yankee bats are waking up at the right time. Plus, Gerritt Cole is on fire and he is pitching game 1.
National League: Wild-card series
Best-of-three, all games at home park of higher seed
Los Angeles Dodgers (1) vs. Milwaukee Brewers (8)
- Game 1: Wednesday, Sept. 30, 10 p.m., ESPN
- Game 2: Thursday, Oct. 1
- Game 3: Friday, Oct. 2 (if necessary)
My Pick: Dodgers in a sweep. The Brewers will be smashed like a pesky fly.
Atlanta Braves (2) vs. Cincinnati Reds (7)
- Game 1: Wednesday, Sept. 30, noon, ESPN
- Game 2: Thursday, Oct. 1
- Game 3: Friday, Oct. 2 (if necessary)
My Pick: Braves in a sweep. This is the year that young Braves team makes it to the NLCS, says GG.
Chicago Cubs (3) vs. Miami Marlins (6)
- Game 1: Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2 p.m., ABC
- Game 2: Thursday, Oct. 1
- Game 3: Friday, Oct. 2 (if necessary)
My Pick: A matchup between the two teams I probably hate the most. Cubs in a sweep.
San Diego Padres (4) vs. St. Louis Cardinals (5)
- Game 1: Wednesday, Sept. 30. 5 p.m., ESPN2
- Game 2: Thursday, Oct. 1
- Game 3: Friday, Oct. 2 (if necessary)
My Pick: Cards in three. This is my upset pick.
