Greek Giant
Extra base hits propelled the Giants in their 8-2 win over the Angels of wherever in California. The victory broke a five-game losing streak from hell and helped the San Franciscans redeem a little baseball self-esteem. RBI hits by Pablo Sandoval, Brandon Belt, and Brandon Crawford were back-breakers after homers by Yaz and the Panda early in the game. Trevor Cahil threw four innings allowing only one run, in what qualifies as a quality start in Farhan Zaidi’s genius book of metricsball or as I like to call it “The Baseball Book of Magical Thinking.”
Seven of the Giants ten hits went for extra bases in sum. The Panda broke out of his power outage slump with his dinger and double, the first two extra base hits for Sandoval in 2020.
Mike Yastrzemski also made a diving catch to save a run. He is having a super 2020 campaign thus far, leading all the baseball land with a WAR of 2.0 and a CBPI (Clutch Baseball Performance Index, a stat I just made up..) of 782.
The Box
Austin Slater missed his third straight game with an elbow injury.
Shaun Anderson buzzed Mike Trout with headhunting fastballs on two occasions in the same at bat in the ninth. The Halos were not happy.
