I am in the middle of writing my look at the 2023 season from a Giants perspective. It should be ready for tomorrow. In the meantime let’s start a new thread on the Wild Card games. Last night the Rangers won their game against the Rays in St. Petersburg. The game drew 19,000 Rays fans! What a sad indictment of postseason baseball, Rays style. There are fun stories in the postseason though. The Twins, Diamondbacks and Phillies were also winners yesterday.

Here are today’s games.

Regarding the Giants, Andrew Baggarly just published an article in The Athletic interviewing Farhan Zaidi about the next Giants Manager. In the piece some details are revealed about the moves the President of Baseball Operations has made regarding the clubhouse and fitting his giant analytics team. It’s a bit weird, a bit disheartening and honestly, somewhat full of BS. Here is a quote one should take with a grain of salt:
“Our next manager is going to be largely if not entirely influential on how things are managed. I’m not saying we’re going to be anti-platoon or anti-opener. Everything in the right amount. If the manager thinks, ‘On paper, this move makes sense but I think leaving this guy in is best in the long run,’ I completely respect that because that’s something that’s hard for any of us to know. And nobody’s going to understand that better than the manager who has the heartbeat of the team.”
