Ooooh boy. Last night’s 11-inning debacle of a loss, 7-5 in Detroit, was so stinky that I do not want to approach it with a ten-foot blog post. I will let the marvelous, fantabulous, and cantankerous Johnny Black handle that in his Black Monday Weekend Wrap© on Monday.
Today’s Game
Today is a new day and that means Giants baseball. Game 2 of the series against the lowly Tigers, is at 1:10 PM Eastern. It will be Anthony Desclafani pitching for the Giants against an as-yet undisclosed Detroit Tiger hurler.
Giants Extend Logan Webb’s Contract
There was some good news yesterday. The Giants and Logan Webb announced the extension of our ace’s contract. His new contract will now be worth five years and $90 million, which could well end up being a bargain if Webb continues on his current path of excellence and baseball salaries continue to go insane. Congratulations to both Logan Webb and the Giants!

Is MadBum Done?
Speaking of hurling, did you see last night’s Dbacks-Marlins game? The Miamians won 5-1 and gave our Forever Giant Madison Bumgarner his second loss of the season. He is now 0-2 with an ERA so gaudy that I do not want to write it for fear of ruining your Saturday. Bumgarner’s fastball appears to be topping out at around 86 MPH and he cannot locate his other pitches. Perhaps the big fella has spent all his bullets? I hate to say it, but I was one of those pleading with Farhan Zaidi to re-sign Bumgarner. That’s why I’m a lowly keeper of a Giants Blog and Farhan is the head honcho. Perhaps it is time for Bumgarner to retire and wear a Giants jersey for his final game?
Happy Jackie Robinson Day
Today Major League Baseball honors Jackie Robinson with Jackie Robinson Day, where every player in the Big Leagues wears number 42. Today is also the 50th Anniversary of the Jackie Robinson Foundation.
The Jackie Robinson Museum opened in New York City last year. It’s a visit I look forward to making the next time I am in Gotham.
