This is one of my favorite national holidays: Opening Day! The Giants begin their 2025 campaign with a 4:05 PM (Local Time) game against the Reds in Cincy. It will be Logan Webb (of course) against the Reds’ Hunter Greene.

Expect Birdsong to get some starts early on.
Let’s get this clear right now and right here: on paper this is not the most impressive team in the Big Leagues. But what makes me optimistic about the season is that the Giants now have a GM/President who gets it in Buster Posey. Check that, It’s much better than that. Anyone paying attention has already seen the major differences in the Giants, let’s call it the Posey effect, from not signing anymore contracts with opt-outs (Finally!) to putting the World Series Championship trophies on prominent display in the clubhouse (DUH!) to letting Bob Melvin make out his own lineups and actually do the Managing! DOUBLE DUH!
GG’s Bold Giants Prediction
We could make an argument that the Giants begin this campaign with the fourth-best roster in the National League West behind the Dodgers, DBacks and Padres. But that’s why we play the games. Let’s see what happens. I think the Posey effect, the maturation of Ramos, Birdsong, Fitzgerald and Bailey will push the Giants into the playoffs as a Wild Card with a record of 84-78.
