Greek Giant
The Giants emerge from their All Star break with a three-game series against the Cardinals in St. Louis. The first game is tonight at 8:15 PM, Bob Gibson time. It says here the National League West is the Giants to lose. They are up two on the Bums, who have their injury issues. The Padres are battling inconsistencies. The Giants have that “never even saw them coming” MO that is quite frankly to their great advantage.
The Cardinals meanwhile have been an up and down kind of team with some issues in their starting pitching. They were at the top of their division in the NL Central briefly as little as four weeks ago. Right now they are trying to keep their season from unraveling completely as they are 44-46, 8 games behind the surging Brewers.
Kevin Gausman goes tonight for the Giants. The Cardinals have not yet announced a starter. Maybe they need more time since the four-day All Star Break was simply too fast for them???
Dick Tidrow
Yesterday the Giants mourned the passing of Dick Tidrow. Let me put it this way. It is very likely 2010, 2012, and 2014 do not happen without him. He was a key ingredient in the three championships as Director of Player Personnel and the person largely in charge of the draft decisions that led to Buster, Timmy, and MadBum as well as BCraw, BB9 and others. Rest in Peace Mr. Tidrow. Our condolences to his family.
Zaidi on the Giants First Half Success
Recently Farhan Zaidi chatted with Alex Pavlovic about the key ingredients and the secrets to the success of the club in the first half. His answers were very interesting including complimenting the veterans like BCraw, Buster and Longoria on their dedication and leadership in the clubhouse. It is a good read.
