Is it me or is the All Star break far too long?
The Giants travel to Seattle for three games against the Mariners this weekend after the All Star Game (another did Mid-Summer Classic). The Marines come into tonight’s game with a record of 48-49, 1.5 games behind the first place Texas Rangers in the American League West. That division has been the strangest of them all so far this year with the Mariners, Astros and Rangers all having underachieving seasons so far. But the interesting thing here is that the Mariners have four players with forty or more runs driven in right now and six with double figures in homers. They are a team with talent as seen in Julio Rodriguez and Dominic Canzone. The Big Dumper, Cal Raleigh has had a huge drop-off in production with nine homers and 29 RBIs so far this year.
The Mariners are 12th in the AL in runs scored and third in team ERA. The issue is consistent run scoring for the Seattle Club. It seems their record should be better with their +16 run differential. The Mariners are 24th in Team Defense in the Majors whereas the Giants are 25th.
The interesting thing about this series is that both teams are sending out their top three starting pitchers.
