The Giants begin an East Coast road trip tonight in Washington D.C. with three games against the Nationals. Tonight’s starting pitching matchup will be Roupp (2-3, 4.11) versus Gore (2-4, 3.67). Game time is 6:45 PM, Eastern.

Tomorrows game takes place at 4:05 PM, Eastern with the Giants starting pitcher not yet named. The Nationals will send Jake Irvin to the mound. Sunday’s finale will take place at 1:35 PM. The pitching matchup is not yet available at press time.

The Nationals come into the series with a record of 23-27 and are in year 4 of their rebuild. Left fielder James Wood is having a strong year with 12 homers and 33 RBIs thus far. Nathaniel Low, the first baseman for Washington, has 8 homers and 34 runs batted in. The DC Ballclub has battled inconsistency on the mound this year. Mackenzie Gore is their ace.

Verlander Goes to IL

Justin Verlander was placed on the 15-Day Injured List with what was described as “Soreness in his pectoral muscle.” It might explain his drop in velocity in his last start. The Giants have yet to determine who will fill Verlander’s spot in the starting five, but Hicks, left-hander Kyle Harrison and No. 2 prospect Carson Whisenhunt are among the leading contenders. Harrison has been pitching out of the bullpen this season for the first time in his MLB career and has a 3.38 ERA in 5 1/3 relief innings. Whisenhunt, another lefty, has a 3.00 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 51 frames over nine Triple-A starts.

My guess is it will be Kyle Harrison for one of the above “TBD” games.
