It’s now FORMER Giants pitching coach for J.P. Martinez as he was announced as a new hire for the Atlanta Braves, who are overhauling their coaching staff much like the Giants will be doing shortly. The announcement came yesterday and made official what we all assumed: that the Giants will have a newly rebuilt coaching staff, beginning with the Pitching Coach, perhaps the most important coach after the Manager.

Martinez, 43, reportedly was under contract with the Giants through next year, but president of baseball operations Buster Posey said members of the coaching staff were told they were free to look for new opportunities after Tony Vitello was brought in to replace Bob Melvin as the club’s manager. Martinez  was hired as an assistant pitching coach on Gabe Kapler’s coaching staff in 2021. In 2023 he was promoted to Pitching Coach when Bob Melvin was hired as the Manager after Bryan Price resigned last season. The Giants were ranked tenth in the Majors lasts season with a team ERA of 3.82.
