Ok, so this is not exactly news about Shohei Ohtani or Juan Soto becoming Giants the boys from San Francisco did make a move yesterday. Sports Illustrated’s Marc DeLucchi reported that the Giants have re-signed left-handed hitting slugger Yoshi Tsutsugo to a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to big-league camp, according to a report by Sankei Sports. He hit 296/.451/.537 last year in the upper Minors and has spent some time as a first baseman for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Tsutugo turned much. more money in the Nippon League to try to prove his worth as a Major Leaguer.
For the Pirates in 2021 he hit .268/.347/.535 with eight doubles, eight home runs, 15 walks, and 33 strikeouts in 144 plate appearances.
We shall see.
Regarding the Giants rumored pursuit of Shohei Ohtani I have nothing to report other than it has been revealed that the Toronto Blue Jays are going all in to sign the phenom. It appears ownership of the Blue Jays realizes their window for contention has about two or three years left when Vlady Jr. and Bichette Jr will both be free agents and will likely pursue new deals with other teams willing to over-pay them. It would be weird seeing Ohtani in a Jays uniform and it would an out-of-nowhere landing sport for him.
We shall see.
Lefty’s post on the Winter Meetings has much more on this and other topics. It is a must-read.
