The Pitching Matchups

The Giants begin a three-game series in Detroit tonight against the Tigers. First pitch for tonight’s game is at 6:40 PM With Sean Manaea listed as the Giant starter. He will face Joey Wentz.

In game two of the series, scheduled for tomorrow at 1:10 PM, Local Time, Anthony Desclafani will start in search of his second win. The Tiger starter has not yet been announced, as of press time.

The series will conclude on Sunday afternoon at 1:10 PM, Detroit time as Logan Webb starts, in search of his first win of 2023. He will face Lefty Matthew Boyd.

Tigers Scouting Report

Going into the game the Tigers have a record of 3-9 so far in 2203. They are still a team in rebuild and, quite frankly, have never recovered from their 2012 World Series loss at the hands of the Giants. Their leading hitter at the moment, Akil Baddoo, is batting .250. The Detroit farm system is ranked dead last in MLB by more than a few experts.

Their top prospects like Jackson Jobe or Jace young are in high A or AA, meaning this team has a long way to go before the Detroit faithful can feel excited again and sniff .500, let alone a postseason spot. Last year the Tigers finished 66-96 in a very weak division with a winning percentage of .407. They were 36-46 at home in the New Tiger Stadium.

At least they have a beautiful ballpark.

The Bottom Line

This is an opportunity for the Giants to inch closer to .500 and take at least two games. I would say anything less than a series win will be a disappointment. But you never know. It’s baseball.

Out of Left Field

Dr. Lefty is on assignment this weekend. We will post a short game preview for tomorrow to start a new thread.
