The Giants concluded a miserable weekend in Los Angeles last night with a 3-1 loss to the hated Dodgers. That loss finished the sweep and came against a Los Angeles team that did not take the foot off the gas after clinching their 13th NL West Division title in 14 seasons on the day before the Giants came to town.

Yesterday’s 3-1 loss was just, well, let’s not go there. It was a shame because Tugboat Wilkinson pitched five scoreless innings and surrendered only three hits. The Giants were shut down, as in one run and two hits, by a Dodger bullpen that is gearing up for the postseason. Even though Los Angeles did not utilize a starting pitcher to open the game, it was clear that each reliever was priming for a postseason run. As much as I hate to say it, you have to give credit to the hated Los Angelinos for taking this Giants series seriously and playing hard.

The Giants concluded their road schedule with a 28-53 record in and they dropped 11 of their last 12 road series (if you throw out the one-game makeup at Atlanta). After opening their road schedule in March by winning two of three on a quick trip to San Diego, they did not post a winning record on a road trip for the rest of the season.

OUCH!

It Gets worse. The Giants arrived in Los Angeles down to two healthy everyday players, Bryce Eldridge and Jung Hoo Lee, and neither of them were in prime condition on Sunday night. Eldridge hit  his head on a low archway at the team hotel prior Friday’s game, missed all three games here while being monitored for a concussion and won’t be in the lineup for Monday’s homestand opener, according to Giants manager Tony Vitello.

Lee was replaced in the sixth inning after he fouled a ball off his groin, which is difficult to do and definitely not recommended.

Tonight’s Game

The Twins come to San Francisco to play the Giants tonight at 6:45 PM. The starting pitching matchup is listed as Zebby Matthews (9-10, 4.74 ERA) versus Blade Tidwell (1-2, 4.56 ERA).

Duane Kuiper Announces Throat Cancer Diagnosis

This past weekend Duane Kuiper announced he had a treatable throat cancer.

Kuiper said his new cancer diagnosis is treatable and is not related to the serious battle he had with abdominal cancer in 2020-21. He was forced to miss the series at Dodger Stadium and won’t be at the ballpark Monday or Wednesday while receiving treatments, but will be in the booth with Krukow for all three home games with the Dodgers this weekend. We wish him well.

Kuiper hoped to travel to Los Angeles to call the Giants’ games against the Dodgers on Saturday and Sunday, but he had to scrap those plans due to his health challenges. He said he plans to return to the booth on Tuesday and will call the Giants’ final three regular-season games against the Dodgers at Oracle Park.

“I’m looking forward to returning Tuesday and this weekend to celebrate my partner, Mike Krukow, and his remarkable career as he calls his final game before retirement,” Kuiper said. “I’m incredibly grateful for the care I’m receiving and for the tremendous support from my family, the Giants organization, my broadcast partners and so many others.”

Can we all say that 2026 is quite possibly the worst season in San Francisco Giants history?
