Greek Giant

The Giants were on the business end of a Major League spanking, 8-0, last night at Willie Mays Field. As losses go it was one of the more painless ones since the spanking was mostly executed by Walker Buehler, one of the premier pitchers in the game and the contest was never really close. The Giants managed only five singles in the entire game with but two runners reaching second base.

It’s hard to say what happened to Anthony Desclafani however. His outing of 2 2/3 innings ended up yielding four runs on six hits. It was quite probably his worst start of the season. It appears the Dodgers were grinding at bats by laying off man pitches to set up favorable counts. Desclafani threw 66 pitches in his 2 2/3 innings! Yikes!

The problem for the Giants, in addition to Desclafani, was Mr. Buehler, who with the win, is now 3-0 with a .079 ERA this season against our boys. It’s turning into a thang…

Injury News

Buster Posey left the game after one at bat and after getting hit with a foul ball in the face mask. He was examined for concussion symptoms and felt dizzyness after the foul ball. The good news is Manager Gabe Kapler is reporting that Buster is feeling better today. In all likelihood it will be Curt Casali behind the plate in the final game of the three-game series against the Bums. Brandon Crawford is expected to return for today’s game.

Today’s Game

Johnny Cueto (6-5, 4.09 ERA) goes against David Price ( 4-0, 3.35 ERA) with first pitch at 12:45 PM at Willie Mays Field.

Prospect Report (courtesy of MLB.com)

Giants: Kai-Wei Teng, RHP (No. 18), High-A Eugene
Teng spun his third scoreless start of the season, striking out five and working around a pair of hits and three walks across five innings of a doubleheader. The Taiwan native worked out of a two-on, one-out jam in the second with a strikeout and a groundout after walking two batters, and he did the same in the fourth after walking a batter and surrendering the first hit of the game for Everett. The 22-year-old owns a 5.68 ERA with 74 strikeouts in 52 1/3 innings this season.

Classic Giants Baseball Cards

MLB.com has a great story on classic Giants baseball cards. It is a must read. You can learn about the gorgeous 1970 Topps Juan Marichal or the 1972 Topps Tito Fuentes. There is also a note about the beautiful 2010 Topps Chrome Buster Posey. I have the 1978 Topps Greg Minton.
