Winning begets winning. The first thing a new regime (Manager/GM) must do when starting their jobs is teach the importance of a winning culture, a winning mentality. Now the Giants were not exactly the Cubs when Farhan Zaidi took over the Giants were stuck, just stuck in mediocrity or worse with seemingly a barren farm system and a verrrrrry aging core of veterans in their big league club. Flash forward to 2021 and the Giants continue to impress day in and day out with a surprising lead atop the NL West.

Yesterday the Giants had four hits, and won. This season the Giants are 2-0 when they get four hits! That’s pretty strange, beautiful, and revealing. Pitching, Pitching, Pitching….

Yesterday Logan Webb survived a jittery first allowing only one run and then pitched five shutout innings after that frame, earning the win in the Giants 4-2 victory over the Rangers. Webb’s slider was very impressive. The righty would end up recording ten strikeouts. The key to the game, after Webb’s superb performance, was the Giants first inning, where they responded with two runs on some excellent situational hitting by Mike Yastrezmski (hit and run rbi double) and BB9 (two-out rbi knock).

Jake McGee pitched a smooth ninth for the save, making this his third straight superb appearance after a very rocky couple of weeks. He looks like a new man.

Here is a key play in the first inning, Mike Tauchman’s diving snatch of a ball that was headed for a double….

The Handshake Line (Note the Giants record at home):

The win keeps the Giants two games ahead of the Padres and three ahead of the Bums, each of whom won yesterday.
