The Current Giants Outfield

The Giants agreed to terms on new one-year contracts with Mike Yaz and Austin Slater. Yaz will receive $7.9 millon next season and Slater will receive $4 million. Not too shabby. In signing both outfielders the Giants secured stability and depth for their outfield which consists of the above two players, Mitch Haniger, Michael Conforto, Luis Matos, Wade Meckler and Heliot Ramos, according to the latest official 40-man roster. This does not preclude any potential free agent signings or trades, in my view. It’s a security blanket move that makes both roster and financial sense for the Giants.

Other Arbitration Eligible Players

The Giants also offered contracts to four other arbitration-eligible players — J.D. Davis, LaMonte Wade Jr., Tyler Rogers and Thairo Estrada. They have not yet agreed to those contracts and have until January 12, 2024 to do so. If they do not sign then the two parties (player and team, will go to arbitration later in January.

2024 Hall of Fame Ballot Revealed

Major League Baseball recently announced the 2024 Hall of Fame Ballot. It’s quite a list of great players and border-line great players. They include Todd Helton, Billy Wagner, and Andruw Jones. Have a look:

Here is the list of first-timers on the ballot:

Beltre is in for sure. I would also induct ARod, Manny Ramirez (the best right-handed hitter I ever saw), and Carlos Beltran. Joe Mauer gets in next year perhaps.

Red Sox Hire Andrew Bailey

Former Giants pitching coach, Andrew Bailey, signed with the Boston Red Sox yesterday. That move was somewhat foreseen by the terrible Red Sox pitching performance last year, and Bailey’s desire to find a job in the East Coat as he publicly stated. With Bob Melvin hiring Bryan Price, Bailey was out of a job in San Francisco. But his tenure as the Giants pitching coach was a successful one. By all accounts Bailey was a big factor in the success of the Giants pitching staff, particularly for players like Logan Webb, Camilo Doval and Kevin Gausman. We wish him luck.

Speaking of Bryan Price here is a great interview with the new Giants pitching coach by Andrew Baggarly in The Athletic.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

GG out!
