The only reason Heliot Ramos did not have three home runs in last night’s 10-1 thrashing of the Blue Jays and Kevin Gausman at Willy Mays Field is because of Willie Mays Field. In his first at bat in the bottom of the first inning Heliot tripled off the base of the wall in Triples Alley, a shot that traveled around 434 feet and would be a homer in every other park. He would later hit a two run homer to right and a massive three-run bomb to left that is probably still going. It was a huge night and it included five runs batted in.
Victor Bericoto had a two-run single when the game was 3-1 and very much in doubt in the bottom of the sixth inning and that hit chased Kevin Gausman who unraveled with hits and walks in this start. He is not the same pitcher he was for the Giants six years ago, but then again, who is? The loss was his eighth of the season and it raised his ERA to 4.32.
Landen Roupp, the Giants starter, won his first game in over a month and was terrific, pitching eight innings and allowing only one run on three hits.
The Blue Jays scored on a solo homer by Okamoto in the top of the sixth. That was notable because the Jays had been shutout for 29 2/3 innings.
I am still on assignment with family matters so this will be a short one. I should be back in business tomorrow.
