Greek Giant

The Giants won a Rockies Field special last night, 8-6 over Colorado. The game seemingly appeared in hand for the Giants who entered the ninth inning with an 8-4 lead but the Rockies scored two off Camilo Doval to make things interesting. In fact the Giants at one point lead 7-1 but the Rockies kept chipping away at the Giants lead.

For the San Franciscans the big inning was the top of the second that saw the Giants plate six runs off Colorado starting pitcher Peter Lambert, who would give up seven runs and nine hits on this night. The inning started with singles by Chapman, Yaz and Ramos, yes, Heliot Ramos. That scored Chapman who read the bloop perfectly. Then Blake Sabol was caught looking for a strikeout with runners on the corners. With one out Nick Ahmed bunted just far enough so that Yaz could scurry home and slide ahead of the throw backhanded by the pitcher Lambert. That’s how the Giants scored their second run: in the most unconventional way possible! Now, I don’t know about you but if I am Bob Melvin, I’m having a chat with Nick Ahmed about bunting with runners on the corners and one out. It’s not like Peter Lambert is Nolan Ryan or anything! Jung Hoo Lee followed the action with a two-run double to make it 4-0 Giants. Then with two outs, Mr. Clutch, LaMonte Wade Jr, singled in two runs to make it 6-0.

The Giants would score a run in the third inning on a Sabol double and a run in the seventh on a Chapman single. It was a good day for the bats as the Giants hammered 13 hits against a very bad Rockies team.

With Jason Hicks cruising things looked groovy for the Giants. Hicks would give up three runs in his five innings of work and qualify for the win. He also allowed seven hits and two walks so it was not an easy outing for the righy but he got the job done. Sean Hjelle pitched two thirds of an inning and allowed one run before giving way to Walker, Rogers and Doval.

A big factor in this game was the Giants’a ability to turn three double plays. They were huge!

Here is the Conforto homer:

Check out this slide by Yaz on a bunt!

Today’s Game

It’s Winn versus Quantrill in today’s series finale that begins at 1:10 PM, Rockies time. The Giants are going for the sweep.
