Well,,,umm,,, ok well, There’s not much to say about yesterday’s 13-7 loss to the Rockies that gave the Giants a higher statistical probability of losing 100 games for the second time in franchise history. The loss pushed the Giants record 51-73 this season, one game better than the 50-74 mark by Colorado, a team with quite possibly the worst ownership on Major League Baseball and a club that is not even trying to field a winning team!

To understand this game and the Giant’s incompetence consider the ten walks in the game issues by San Francisco hurlers. Eight of them came to score.

The Giants used five pitchers in the game, the first five of which gave up the thirteen runs. Let’s begin with Blade Tidwell, the starting pitcher. He gave up six runs in four 1/3 innings of work. The Rockies hit two homers in the game and twelve hits overall. The Giants, for their part managed a 5-4 lead after the bottom of the second but with Tidwell not have a good day and the league’s worst bullpen in the Majors… well you know the rest.

Rafael Devers hit his 25th home run of the year and will likely hit 30 or more for the season. This is indeed, a strange year for the Giants.

Manager Tony Vitello minced no words with his comments on the game:

“It had more the feel of a lower level, a junior-college game as opposed to a big-league game, with how some of the things transpired. And I was a JUCO guy, so I’m not disrespecting junior college.”

“I mean, people paid money to sit through that,” Vitello said. “And other people … Wash (infield coach Ron Washington) has got to sit through that. And so, might as well sit through a meeting. I don’t know that anything genius was said, and there’s no point in putting on a tirade.

“It’s about today, and it’s not about any one person or any one loss, but it’s more about a theme … of clean baseball.”

In a way, I feel bad for Vitello. He has been in over his head from the beginning of the season and things have only degenerated from there. Right now he is managing the equivalent of a AAAA team and that is not an easy job.
