There is not much to say about the Giants 3-0 loss to the Dodgers at Willie Mays Field yesterday’s other than Tyler Glasnow was close to un-hittable and Logan Webb was good but not good enough on this day. The loss meant the Giants won 2 of 3 against Los Angeles and we will take that every time, especially when our arch rivals are by far, the best team in Baseball and the Giants are struggling to get to .500. The series was notable for many reasons. Lets begin with the number ten, as in the total runs scored in the three games by both teams, combined. That’s an exceptionally low total for three Major League Baseball games and it speaks to how well both teams pitched, especially the Giants. The San Franciscans gave up four of those ten runs. Unfortunately, getting blanked in yesterday’s game mean they could not get the sweep.
The tensions present in yesterday’s game stemming from a stupid video of Dalton Rushing uttering “F)(ck him” after seeing Jung Hoo Lee stay down after a play at the plate on Tuesday seem a bit fabricated. Logan Webb plunked Rushing with a fastball in the ribs. Rushing then slid semi-hard into Willy Adames to send a message during a double play. Neither Rushing’s slide or verbal offense were that egregious in my book. His slide was not rough enough to enter the level of Holliday’s demolition of Marco Scutaro in the 2012 NLCS, but you get the point. There were no reports of broken bones on the slide. Apart from hurt feelings, this is all a little over-blown.
Even Dave Roberts diminished the whole scenario, satisfied with his team’s win. I did not know it was part of the Baseball code to bean a player if demonstrates a lack of empathy. It’s not like Lee was injured seriously, as in Buster Posey in 2011. So let’s all take a deep breath and be grateful for the series win, the second straight series win by the Giants this season and the first time they have done that in 2026.
The Real story is Glasnow’s one-hitter over eight innings that ate up Giant bats. The Giants had just three baserunners to work with on this day: Luis Arraez, walked in the first inning; Heliot Ramos, reached on an error in the second; and Arraez again, who had the single giants a hit, a single in the fourth inning. The latter two were erased on double plays, allowing Glasnow to face the minimum across his final seven innings. For his part, Logan Webb would but allow seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Those three runs scored on a Rushing single, a Muncie double and a Kim single.
The loss pushed the Giants Record to 11-14 as the Dodgers raised their mark to 17-8.
