The Detroit Tigers are a strange team. They just traded a generational pitcher in Tarik Skubal and gave up on a run to the postseason, or so it seems. They just finished a 7-2 road trip and took two of three from the Giants this weekend. Our Giants, for starters, are in a different place after Buster Posey’s trade deadline moves, a subject I will address later this week in a long piece. Yesterday the Giants lost 3-1 in ten innings despite getting an eight innings, one-run performance from Logan Webb, who lowered his ERA to 3.59 in the process. It was a pitcher’s duel with Detroit’s starting pitcher, Troy Melton, allowing only one unearned run in six innings. The Detroit ballclub pushed across two in the top of the tenth inning on a Lee single and a Clark fielder’s choice. Those runs came off Sam Hentges and while newcomer Jason Foley recorded the final two outs of the inning to stop the bleeding.
The Giants were kept under wraps by Tyler Holton in the bottom half of the inning and that was all she wrote. For the San Franciscans, their only run of the game came from a Drew Gilbert single that scored Basabe in the bottom of the seventh inning after the Tigers took the lead in the top of the when Gleyber Torress scored as the Giants turned a double play with the bases loaded. Webb would escape the jam and keep things at 1-0 for the time being.
The Giants would have seven hits in the game with two from Gilbert and two from Devers.

On Saturday the Giants honored Joe Panik, Pablo Sandoval, Buster Posey, Brandon Belt and Brandon Crawford into the Walk of Fame. It was a special day, a fun ceremony and a nice gesture by the Giants to honor the World Series Infield of 2014.
Giants broadcasters Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow hosted the pregame proceedings, which also featured a conversation with special guests Bochy, former pitching coach Dave Righetti, former third-base coach Tim Flannery, former pitching coach Mark Gardner and former bench coach Ron Wotus, who reflected on the new crop of inductees sitting behind them on the infield dirt in folding chairs with their families.
This 2026 group of Great Giants joins the list from two years ago, which saw the “Core Four” relievers from the Bochy era — Jeremy Affeldt, Santiago Casilla, Javier López and Sergio Romo — receive their plaques.
This season’s five-player addition marked the biggest single-season induction in the Giants’ Wall of Fame history, not including the inaugural edition in 2008. Brandon Crawford reflected on the ceremony:
“Just kind of surreal. You look at the guys that are already up there, they’re all guys that I grew up watching and idolizing and wanting to be like someday. So to be up there now with those guys is very special.”

Pablo Sandoval endorsed Buster Posey in his new role as Giants POBO:
“He’s going to do fantastic because he knows how to win,” said Sandoval. “He knows the moves he has to make. … I know Buster. He’s going to do the best to get the San Francisco Giants winning again.”
