Greek Giant

Second base is a big question mark for the Giants going into 2022. It appears that Tommy LaStella will always be a super-sub and platoonish player. His lefty bat will give him most of the at-bats all things being equal. There are questions about the right-side of the plate for our boys next summer. There have been all kinds of rumors and suppositions, so many in fact that I’m bored quite frankly. Marcu Semien was mentioned, before the Rangers nabbed. The Giants could look for help within the system, via trades, or another free agent signing.

Here is a list of the current second baseman free agents:

Marcus Semien (31, 7.8 WAR) — Signed 7-year deal with TEX (Dec. 1)
Cèsar Hernández (32, 4.2) — Signed 1-year deal with WSH (Nov. 30)
Leury García (31, 2.4) — Signed 3-year deal with CWS (Dec. 1)
Donovan Solano (34, 2.0)
Josh Harrison (34, 1.8)
Jed Lowrie (38, 0.9)
Chris Owings (30, 0.6)
Jason Kipnis (35, 0.6)
Rougned Odor (28, 0.4) — Signed 1-year deal with BAL (Nov. 30)
Matt Carpenter (36, 0.0)
Jordy Mercer (35, 0.0)
José Peraza (28, -0.1) — Signed MiLB deal with NYY (Nov. 28)
Greg Garcia (32, -0.2)
Dee Strange-Gordon (34, -0.3)
Franklin Barreto (26, -0.4)
Rio Ruiz (28, -0.4)
Marwin Gonzalez (33, -0.5)
Eric Sogard (36, -0.7)
Pat Valaika (29, -0.8)

Josh Harrison? Jordey Mercer? Jed Lowerie?

Will the Giants re-sign Donovan Solano?

Will Thairo Estrada be the answer?
