The Giants travel to San Diego in search both a playoff berth and a little revenge. After dominating the Padres to start the season with a 9-0 run, the Padres have come roaring back to take six in a row against the Giants and humiliate them at Willie Mays Field.

It’s time to put the playoff push to rest or to fruition. The Padres are in a rebuilding mode starting many young players for the first time. Jeff Samardzija takes the ball for the boys from San Francisco and is primed to maintain his second half excellence.

Eduardo Nunez leads off and Gorkys Hernandez is in center. No word on Denard Span’s health. Joe Panik is looking to bust out of his slump. There has been much talk around the Giants nation and on this blog about the outfield defense and the effects of age for Hunter Pence, Denard Spence, and Angel Pagan. We shall see what destiny holds for the 2016 season of our “old” outfield. Tonight Gorkys is back.

Let’s talk about Christian Friedrich. The lefty has a WHIP of 1.45 this year and has given up 13 home runs in only 113 innings pitched. The San Diego ballclub, after an offseason that saw them sign many veterans and big names, now sport a team that resembles a AAA club. While appearing to be back in re-building mode, the Giants must work hard to retain their edge against their Padre foes.
